1 EUROPEAN PARLIAMT 1999 Committee on Fisheries 2004 PE/XI/PV/02-16 MINUTES of the meeting of 9 December 2002, 3 p.m. to 6.30 p.m., and 10 December 2002, 9 a.m p.m. BRUSSELS The meeting opened at 3.10 p.m. on Monday, 9 December 2002, with Straun Stevenson, chairman, in the chair. 1. Adoption of draft agenda PE The draft agenda was adopted with the following changes: Item 5 was postponed. The draft agenda, as amended, was adopted. 2. Approval of minutes of the meetings of: 5 November 2002 PE November 2002 PE The minutes were approved. 3. Chairman's announcements: - An updated list of all correspondence received has been included in the Members Dossiers. Those Members interested in a particular item can address their enquiry to the Secretariat. - A Conference organised by the European Commission on "What role for women in the fisheries sector" will take place on January 2002 in Brussels. Mrs. Miguélez, First Vicepresident, will represent the Committee there but all other members of the committee are welcome to take part in the Conference. 2 Secretariat of the Committee. - After six years of work for the Secretariat of the Fisheries Committee, and in the context of the mobility of staff, Mr. Michael Topping will be leaving the secretariat of the committee as from 1 January 2003 to work for the Regional Affairs, Transport and Tourism Committee. The Chairman thanked Mr. Topping, on behalf of the Committee, for the good work accomplished and wished him the best for his new job. - A cocktail to mark the end of our parliamentary working year will take place today at 6.30 p.m. in the lounge of the members restaurant, ground floor. - Members of the "Cod Crusaders" from Scotland were welcomed by the Chairman. - The Chairman expressed his solidarity and sympathy with Members from Galicia following the disaster involving the "Prestige". - The Chairman announced the latest developments regarding the Commission's cod and hake recovery plan, after which a short debate took place: Struan Stevenson, Daniel Varela Suanzes-Carpegna, Ian Stewart Hudghton, Rosa Miguélez Ramos, Salvador Jové Peres, James Nicholson, Catherine Stihler. 4.
