4 Leics. LE NP Tel () 4 Fax () 4 btc.testing@saintgobain.com. FOREWORD This test report details a fire resistance test conducted on a full scale horizontal loaded timber joist floor. The test specimen was installed by Alltone Limited. The construction of the specimen took place on the and 7 March. The Building Test Centre played no role in the design or selection of materials comprising the test specimen. The test was conducted on the 8 March. th Because of the nature of fire resistance testing and the consequent difficulty in quantifying the uncertainty of measurement of fire resistance, it is not possible to provide a stated degree of accuracy of the result.. REPORT AUTHORISATION Report Author Authorised by P.P. Liam Woodford Technologist Paul Miller BSc. (Hons.) Fire Test Manager The Building Test Centre will not discuss the content of this report without written permission from the test sponsor. The Building Test Centre retains ownership of the test report content but authorises the test sponsor to reproduce the report as necessary in its entirety only. BTC 77F: Page 4 of

6 Leics. LE NP Tel () 4 Fax () 4 btc.testing@saintgobain.com 4. TEST CONSTRUCTION 4. Description of Construction The specimen was constructed in a refractory concrete lined steel restraint frame having an opening of 4mm long x mm wide. 7mm x 47mm C grade softwood joists were placed, nominally, at mm centres, spanning 4mm length of the test frame. Fulldepth noggings were fixed at each end of the joists (within the test aperture) with inch nails. 8mm x 8mm noggings were fixed between the joists to coincide with the outer layer board joints using inch nails. The tops of the joists were covered with a walking surface of mm tongue and groove chipboard flooring (nominally mm long x mm wide) which was fixed using mm drywall timber screws at mm centres. The underside of the floor was lined with a double layer of.mm Gyproc FireLine, (nominally mm long x mm wide). The inner layer was fixed using mm Drywall timber screws at mm centres. The outer layer was fixed using mm Drywall timber screws at mm centres. All board joints were staggered between layers. All joints were finished using Gyproc Joint Tape and Joint Filler. All screw heads were spotted using Gyproc Joint Filler. Nine downlighters were incorporated into the ceiling. A mm diameter hole was cut into the plasterboards to accommodate all of the downlighters. Downlighters KSRFRD were positioned at F, G, H, I and J. Four additional downlighters were positioned at A, B, C and D. See figure 7 for the positions of each downlighter. BTC 77F: Page of

11 Leics. LE NP Tel () 4 Fax () 4 btc.testing@saintgobain.com. TEST PROCEDURE The test was conducted fully in accordance with BS 47: Part : 87: Clause 7. The asymmetrical specimen was subjected to fire from the underside (plasterboard side) this being the required direction of fire resistance as specified in BS 47: Part : 87: Clause 7. Where areas of the test specification are ambiguous, or open to interpretation, the Fire Test Study Group Resolutions 4, 47,,,, 7, 7, 7, 77, 7 and 8 have been followed (where appropriate). These Resolutions provide the basis of common agreements between the fire test laboratories, which are members of this group. The test procedure used was 47//7, issue. The ambient temperature at the commencement of the test was 7 C. o The furnace pressure was set to control at 8 ± Pa positive with respect to atmosphere, at the top of the specimen. Furnace pressure data is shown in figure 4. A total load of 8kN (.kn/m ) was applied to equally distributed loading points. Loading requirements were supplied by the sponsor. BTC 77F: Page of

12 Leics. LE NP Tel () 4 Fax () 4 btc.testing@saintgobain.com 7. TEST RESULTS The requirements of the standard were satisfied for the following periods: Loadbearing Capacity: minutes Integrity: minutes By virtue of loadbearing capacity failure Insulation: minutes By virtue of loadbearing capacity failure The test was terminated at minutes at the request of the laboratory. 8. LIMITATIONS The results only relate to the behaviour of the specimen of the element of construction under the particular conditions of test; they are not intended to be the sole criteria for assessing the potential fire performance of the element in use nor do they reflect the actual behaviour in fires. The specification and interpretation of fire test methods are the subject of ongoing development and refinement. Changes in associated legislation may also occur. For these reasons it is recommended that the relevance of test reports over years old should be considered by the user. The laboratory that issued the report will be able to offer, on behalf of the legal owner, a review of the procedures adopted for a particular test to ensure that they are consistent with current practices, and if required may endorse the test report.
