2 Task 1 Applying for jobs Ruth is looking for a permanent job. She finds these three advertisements for similar jobs in the paper. Jones Department Stores An opportunity has opened up for a new Trainee Sales Manager Pay per month is 1750 for first 6 months, rising to 2000 per month after that King s Café Manageress required Pay is per hour 35 hours per week (weekend rate: time and a quarter) Required to work 5 of the 35 hours at the weekend every week Lewis Shopping Complex Section leader needed Starting salary: plus annual bonus of 12% of salary Task 1a Choose two of the jobs. 4 Task 2 Claiming Expenses Ruth has an interview for the job chosen in Task 1a. She wants to claim expenses for the interview. Here is some information about what she can claim for: Mileage claim: 40.2p per mile Parking fees and all standard rail and bus transport costs She drove to the interview. She must record how many miles she drove. She drove 89 miles that day. At the end of the day Ruth reads her milometer. The reading on the milometer at the end of the journey is Task 2a Fill in the blank boxes in this claim form to claim for Ruth s petrol costs. Office floor plan (not drawn to scale): 10m 3m 8m Height of office 2.5 metres 6m Health and Safety regulations state that: the volume of the room when empty divided by the number of people working in it, should be at least 11 cubic metres. 8 Task 4 Being self-employed Samir starts a business making wooden toys. He plans to sell the toys to different toy shops. He makes toy cars, boats and trains. Toy shops can buy Samir s toys in two different sizes. Each of the toys he makes is available with a length of either 10cm or 20cm. Samir plans to show his toys to six different toy shops. He needs a data collection sheet to record how many of each sized toy each shop wishes to order. 10 Task 5 Delivery Samir delivers the trains he has made. He puts the trains on a pallet. Goods can t be stacked more than one box high because they break easily. The pallet measures 1m by 2m. Each boxed train set measures 80cm by 30 cm by 20 cm. Task 5 Draw a scale drawing to show how to arrange the boxes on the pallet. Use the box on the next page. 12 Task 6 Faulty Toys Samir employs two other people to make toys. Samir knows that each person is likely to make some toys which are not good enough to sell. Samir records the number of faulty toys each person makes in a three month period.
