2 Happy Easter Easter is a time to come together and spend quality time with your loved ones. Whether you mark the holiday period with religious activities, or veer towards your treasured family traditions from our family here at English World Education to yours, we hope you have a lovely break. In this booklet, you will learn some interesting facts about Easter and garner some knowledge on how the holiday is celebrated across the globe. Not only this, but you will also be kept busy with some fun and educational activities. Although times have been tough recently, there are still many ways that you can make this Easter special! If you re spending Easter at home, you could bake some scrumptious hot cross buns spiced fruit buns with a white cross down the middle of them (like those depicted in the picture to the left). Fun fact: the cross is representative of the cross that Jesus is said to have died on, whilst the spices are symbolic of those that the people who cared for his body would have used to preserve it. I bet you ve never thought that deeply about a breakfast food before! But, we mustn t forget that Easter is a religious holiday, and so, many of its traditions have a deeper meaning than what might meet the eye. If you re venturing out this Easter, please stay safe! There will be a bunch of things to do, like visiting the Church for an Easter service, going on an Easter egg hunt, or enjoying a family brunch out and about in this beautiful city that we are lucky enough to call home. We hope you enjoy working through this booklet, and learning all about Easter! 2

9 Storytime: Tom & the Easter Bunny Activity 7 Activity: Your job is to read the short story below. Be sure to pay close attention, as you will need to answer some questions in the following activity! Tom & the Easter Bunny Once Upon a Time on a sunny Easter Sunday, a young boy named Tom was suddenly woken up by a rustling sound in the bushes outside his bedroom window. At first he thought it might be his Dad, named Stan, who loves to garden especially early in the morning! But then, suddenly, Tom remembered It s Easter! He exclaimed, as he came rushing down the stairs. His Mum, Lucy had made some lovely Hot Cross Buns, and before he could even eat one, he rushed out to the garden to investigate much to his surprise, he saw two little fluffy white ears poking out from the bushes. It couldn t be, Tom thought to himself but sure enough it was. And just like that, Tom yelled out, It s the Easter Bunny! The Easter Bunny was startled and looked directly at Tom, gesturing for him to be quiet, and saying shh. Tom asked the Easter Bunny why he couldn t tell his Mum, Dad, and little brother, Billy that they had a surprise visitor. The Easter Bunny told Tom that if too many children came to greet him, he wouldn t have time to deliver chocolate eggs to all of the houses on the street. Then, the Easter Bunny gave Tom a huge brown basket with loads of yummy Easter eggs inside it. Tom was in shock and so grateful, he said Thank you so much Mister Easter Bunny, I will be sure to share these treats with my parents, and my little brother Billy. And with that, the Easter Bunny smiled and hopped off down the lane, spreading joy to all the other houses as he went! 9

12 Activity: Creative Writing All about Easter! Activity 10 Activity: Do you remember reading the story: Tom & the Easter Bunny? It s now your turn to write your very own short story about Easter. You can choose the themes, characters, plot, etc. But, I d like you to plan your story in the template below Characters: Who will your story be based on? Don t just list a bunch of names, describe their personality traits! First sentence: Try to steer clear of the cliché Once Upon a Time put your own spin on it! Beginning: This is your Who? What? Where? Why? - Introduce your readers to the world in which your characters are living but don t reveal all remember, you want to create suspension! Middle/Problem: What is the crux of the story? What problem do your character(s) face? Climax: What is the climax of your story? This is the part that comes just before the problem is solved answer some (but not all) of your readers questions save the best till last! Ending/Resolution: How does/do your character(s) overcome the problem that lays at the heart of the plot (the storyline what it s all about)? You need to give your readers an ending it doesn t necessarily have to be a happy one, but it does need to leave your audience satisfied! 12
