1 UW-STEVENS POINT Student Affairs Annual Report Dean of Students (DOS) August 215 MISSION: The office of the Dean of Students, within the Division of Student Affairs, strives to maximize each student's learning experience by creating a culture of care, fostering personal responsibility, and encouraging involvement as local and global citizens. DEPARTMENTAL ACHIEVEMENTS: University support o Took on responsibility for University compliance to the Jeanne Clery Act, VAWA, and Campus SaVE Act, to include training three Clery Act compliance officers (DOS, ADOS, Case Manager) o Wrote and published both the Annual Security Report and the Annual Fire Safety Report as required by the Clery Act (DOS, ADOS, Case Manager) o Coordinated UWS Clery compliance audit as member of the UW System Clery Audit Oversight Committee (DOS) o Created Title IX compliance self-assessment document and shared information with the incoming Title IX Coordinator (DOS) o Assumed duties as Deputy Title IX Coordinator (DOS and ADOS) to include Title IX investigation responsibilities (ADOS, Case Manager) o Compiled and wrote the UWS Annual Sexual Assault Report (DOS, ADOS, Case Manager) o Represented UW-Stevens Point at the U.S. Army ROTC Center of Influence Leadership Symposium (DOS) o Served on the Tuition Appeals Committee (DOS), A-Team (ADOS), Suspension/Readmission Committee (Case Manager), University College Exploratory Committee (DOS), University Affairs Committee of Faculty Senate (ADOS), Diversity Council (ADOS), Homecoming and Welcome Week Committees (DOS), AODA Prevention Partnership and Management Team (DOS, ADOS) Dean of Students office o Transitioned office from Delzell Hall to Old Main o Completed Clery Act compliance certification (DOS, ADOS, Case Manager) o Completed Title IX Coordinator training offered by the National Association of College and University Attorneys (DOS) o Completed Title IX / Civil Rights Investigator certification (ADOS, Case Manager) o Completed trauma informed investigation training through the Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOS, ADOS, Case Manager) o Completed UWS Title IX training for student-related complaints (ADOS, Case Manager) o Completed webinars related to Title IX, Clery Act, VAWA, SaVE, Sexual violence prevention, stalking, working with student veterans (DOS, ADOS, Case Manager) o Attended/hosted UWS conduct officers meetings/training o Planned and executed Top Dawg, Chancellor s Leadership Award, and Albertson Award processes and events o Program Manager for the DOS Office provided administrative support to Executive Board of the Phi Kappa Phi honor society
2 Student Outreach and Support o Created Case Manager position to provide comprehensive case management with students experiencing varying levels of crisis and concern o Case Manager created and led Students of Concern (SOC) committee, including running regular meetings, maintaining accurate records, semester assessments, and overall coordination of assisting students in various stages of personal, mental health, and academic crisis as well as to navigate university processes and procedures o Created collaborative partnerships with a variety of campus offices to assist students: Disability and Assistive Technology Center (DATC), Retention Coordinator, Tutoring Learning Center (TLC), Veteran Services, Residential Living, Counseling, Enrollment Management, faculty, academic advisors, and other staff (Case Manager) o Created and distributed poster series to promote sexual assault reporting, positive bystander intervention, defining consent, and ending victim blaming in partnership with UW-Stevens Point Student Government Association, ROTC, and Inter-Greek Senate o Organized all-university events to educate the campus community about sexual violence which included bystander intervention training, keynote speaker event, and community screening of The Hunting Ground o Added Consent and Respect online course requirement (along with Alcohol-Wise) for all new students o Created collaborative relationships with Stevens Point and Portage County community agencies to share resources and information; Includes Portage County CAP Services Family Crisis Center Sexual Assault and Domestic Assault Response Teams and the Portage County Alcohol and Other Drug Coalition (PCAODA) o Partnered with students and faculty to support creation of financial literacy program, eventually leading them to secure status as a student organization o Served as a liaison to the Student Government Association by attending their retreats and weekly senate meeting o Supported Student Government Association with the administration of the SGA/US Bank Scholarship program o Continued to act as administrative support for the SGA funded campus lawyer service UW-Stevens Point Conduct Process o Created and implemented trauma informed Administrative Hearing Board training o Adjudicated over 2 cases within DOS office and supported adjudication of more than 1 cases by Residential Living and SIEO o Streamlined the hold, blocks and suspension process for campus when sanctions are implemented with the help of the Office of Registrar and the Enrollment Management unit o Worked with the Stevens Point Police Department, Stevens Point Attorney, and UW System Office of General Counsel to get city police reports released to the Dean of Students Office each week o Supported the hiring and training of 3 ACUCHO-I graduate interns to serve as the summer hall director at Treehaven and CWES o Updated campus policies from the UW-Stevens Point Community Rights and Responsibilities (UWS/UW-STEVENS POINT chapters 14, 17 and 18) o Updated alcohol and other sanctioning grids to more clearly define behavioral cues to alleged misconduct
3 Faculty/Staff Outreach and Support o Created and distributed Red Folder Project to provide faculty and staff a single document assessing and supporting students experiencing some form of crisis o Met with college deans and department chairs to share information about the DOS office and share the Red Folder Project o Participated in new faculty workshops o Shared DOS work with shared governance groups to include the full Faculty Senate the University Affairs Committee of Faculty, Student Government Association, and Residence Hall Association o Consulted with over 15 different faculty and staff in support of students o Updated faculty and staff guide for academic and non-academic misconduct including management of classroom behavior o Collaborated with Residential Living in the update of emergency procedures and protocols as well as the Residential Living Handbook distributed to students o Led sections of Residential Living professional staff training o Participated in new and transfer student orientations Inclusive Excellence o Attended multiple Coffee and Culture presentations o Completed supporting student Veterans online training o Attended Soul Food Dinner o ADOS serves on Divisional diversity team o Entire office is Safe Zone trained o Collaborated with Disability Services o Partnership with WRC and PAVE to address issues of sexual violence GOALS FOR Increase visibility of DOS across campus Create and measure learning goals/outcomes for student interaction with DOS office Implement improvement recommendations from the UWS Clery Audit team Identify and train all Campus Security Authorities (CSAs) in accordance with the Clery Act Implement the UW-Stevens Point Bystander Intervention Program for campus Support hiring of Title IX Investigator to assist with investigations, student conduct, and educational efforts regarding Title IX, VAWA, SaVE Act, and Clery Provide educational opportunities for faculty and staff regarding Title IX, VAWA, SaVE Act, Clery, trends in student mental health, classroom behavior management, and violence on college campuses Maintain and bolster DOS staff training and competency regarding Title IX, VAWA, SaVE Act, Clery, trends in student mental health, classroom behavior management, and violence on college campuses Redefine responsibilities and make-up of the BIT, to include facilitating table-top exercises with Protective Services, Risk Management, and other offices Recruit and select for new Assistant Dean of Student Position (formerly Case Manager position) Continue to streamline processes for all conduct cases Explore adding training Portage County SAVS Advocate to campus
