Joaquín Chacón Director of Alhambra Instituto, developer of courses as Spanish for Teachers with New Technologies in the Classroom. Founder of Malaca Instituto - Club Hispánico Teaching Spanish as a second language.- In foreign language education, the goal of applying technological innovation in language studies is no different from the goals of foreign language education in general: to provide students resources and experiences that will provide instruction and practice in speaking, reading, writing, and listening to their target language, as well as cultural information necessary to a full understanding of the people and the language they are studying. In a great many ways, the incorporation of the Web 2. 0 and New Technologies into the foreign language classroom is just the latest in an ongoing sequence of technological innovations of our days. The percentage of students using technology for personal use increases every year, and the classroom can easily mimic the technologies that students use for entertainment in the classroom. For example, a teacher could create a Twitter account that students could follow to receive updates, learn a fact of the day and check for upcoming deadlines. Students could have a class home page or their own Twitter account to discuss reading selections and discussion topics. This use of technology in the classroom teaches students that the value of technology goes beyond social networking and into creating an extended learning environment. In Alhambra Instituto in Málaga - Spain we offer Special Courses for Spanish Teachers with the appropriate didactical, pedagogical and technological preparation for teaching Spanish as a foreign language.: Developing a pedagogical framework. Explaining the important questions. Establishing working guidelines for management of the classroom. Implementing these strategies while integrating technology in the classroom and at home. Developing their own on-line interactive materials and activities for their students. Reflecting on the experience and revisiting these strategies regularly.

In Spain, Spanish teacher training and teacher preparation programs exist in every Spanish school in every city, as well as in various forms and degree. Programs like Alhambra Instituto s Spanish Course for Teachers are very different than regular programs of similar name. Last year we changed the offer for Spanish Teachers Courses, now the second module focus on the importance of technology, introducing new techniques for preparing new material interactive and new approach to teaching Spanish language We offer specifically designed courses for teachers of Spanish who wish to learn about new techniques, classroom activities and materials. It also provides an opportunity for teachers to enrich their own knowledge of Spanish through direct contact with the language and culture; personal language development, and discussion with colleagues from other countries Spanish Course for Teachers at Alhambra Instituto in Malaga is the result of all tens of thousands of hours teaching Spanish to foreing students, teaching teachers, writing courses, guiding, reading, studying, and testing ideas with the new technologies.
4 Teaching the teachers can be very rewarding. Because teaching is the most important job in the world. We knew that someone cared about our success even if that teacher never said it. In the future, as technology makes distance teaching a more flexible and attractive proposition, other ways of achieving a productive and enjoyable interaction between school teachers and atudents may well be found. Above all, the Alhambra Instituto is a friendly and caring school where students receive a lot of personal attention and where learning is enjoyable. During the course we aim to teach participants using a methodology which is suitable for teachers of Spanish to adopt in their own classroom settings and which takes into account different learner styles. It is a highly practical course which strives to equip teachers with creative ideas and to develop their knowledge of teching Spanish. Participants will receive up-to-date training in current communicative Spanish teaching techniques and materials. They will leave with a bank of resources which can be implemented in their own teaching situations. Technologies applied to the classroom: Participants will explore tools such as blogs, social bookmarking, asynchronous text and audio discussions, multimedia sharing sites, and videopodcasts. Participants will learn how to integrate these tools into their instruction and assessment in support of key curricular goals. They will also be expected to complete and submit a final product consisting of a lesson plan that incorporates at least four of the Web 2.0 tools introduced in the course. In this module we will work with Moodle as platform, and popular Moodle modules (like Blogs, Wikis, Quiz, Hot Potatoes Quiz, Lessons) and will enable teacher trainees to familiarize themselves with online tools.
7 Sometimes the technology resources that world language teachers have at their disposal seem more like a magic carpet or a magic wand, capable of transforming teaching and curriculum in ways that would have unimaginable a decade ago. But technology is just a tool: the skilled teacher, like the skilled craftsman, matches the tool to the task in order to accomplish an important purpose. At the same time as we consider our own uses of technology, we need to focus on our students and their need to use technology effectively. Technology, especially the Internet, can provide access to authentic sources of language that are simply unavailable any other way. When we integrate technology meaningfully, we are supporting them in the development of two essential tools for lifelong learning: skill in the use of another language and the ability to make discerning and effective use of technological tools. Accommodation 1) Spanish Family: Immerse yourself in the Spanish language and culture by having us arrange your accommodation with a host family. 2) Apartments: We also offer you the option of living in a shared furnished apartment, in an individual or a double room.
