MEET THE STUDENT CHALLENGERS! Cheer them on at OPTA s Annual Conference on Friday, April 22, from 5-6 p.m. at the Columbus Renaissance Downtown Hotel. All are welcome to watch!
The Ohio State University Charlotte Thurnauer Timothy Rethorn Rachel Stewart Mary Montalto There are 139 DPT students between the 3 classes. 100% of the program (all 139 students) are members of the APTA. Since 1955, OSU has graduated over 2,500 physical therapists.
Ohio University Kelsey Biller Kelsey Venis Kaitlyn Krizman Kalyn Renner When someone's phone goes off during class, they are obligated to bring in snacks for the class the next time that class meets. Each year, Ohio University Physical Therapy sends students on an interdisciplinary medical trip with other Ohio University students to Botswana to provide healthcare services to patients and education to healthcare providers. Students serve the Athens, Ohio community through many outlets through events such as Athens Kidfest, Parkinson's exercise groups, Stroke support group, and free gait evaluations, just to name a few.
Cleveland State University Matthew Burnett James Flis Adam Miller Nick Eberhardt We volunteer at the Free Clinic and Care Alliance of Cleveland, providing pro bono service to patients. Located in the heart of downtown Cleveland, in very close proximity to major healthcare systems. Annual white coat ceremony for students prior to starting clinical education.
University of Dayton - 1 Kim Parent Elizabeth Cox Kelly Clancy Jennifer Westover There are at least two redheads in every class. Our program director owns over 1,000 comic books. A 3rd-year has already started his own company ( - check it out).
Sinclair Community College Michael Miller Jessica Cates Shannon Simpson Stephanie Rogers OPTA's October (Physical Therapy Month) School of the Month. We have two campuses, Dayton and Mason. We are a competitive entry program.

University of Cincinnati Matthew Gingras Logan Siemer Daniel Meyer Bryan Vranic We have an annual service trip to Cancun, Mexico every year! We had our first student complete a clinical rotation abroad this semester in Italy. Our first time pass rate on the NPTE is 98%
Youngstown State University Drew Snyder Douglas Flamino Ryan Guy Jennifer Parpart YSU started Penguin PT, a student and faculty run pro bono physical therapy clinic, in conjunction with the Midlothian Free Health Clinic to service the uninsured and underinsured in Youngstown and the surrounding communities. At over 4,400 acres, Mill Creek is the second largest metropolitan park in the country (bigger than Central Park).

Walsh University Shantil Dickerson Abbey Schory Andrew Junak Stephen Ely The DPT program at Walsh University offers award winning faculty who are leaders in contemporary strategies for teaching and learning physical therapy. The students and faculty feel that there is a Walsh difference, it may be our character, our professionalism, our clinical excellence, or our strengths in scholarship/ evidence based practice. Walsh DPT program develops PT professionals who embrace healthcare challenges and become change agents to strengthen and serve the future of physical therapy.
University of Dayton - 2 Megan Saunders Gabbi Whisler Safiyeah Shalash Hana Goubeaux We have 6 name twins in the 1st year class. Our program director works with three NBA teams. We accidentally let a kitten loose in the cadaver lab last semester.
