1 OATYC News Ohio Association of Two-Year Colleges W W W. O A T Y C. O R G OATYC Conference 2016 Call for Proposals Due April 1 Hosted by Rhodes State College in Lima, Ohio S P E C I A L P O I N T S O F I N T E R E S T : Conference Date: Friday, October 14, 2016 Proposal Guidelines (page 2) Poster Showcase Format and Guidelines (page 2) OATYC Journal (page 3) Outstanding Teachers (page 4) Theme: Creating in the Classroom: Enjoying Experiential Learning How can we as educators influence students to come to college excited about learning? One of the greatest difficulties we face as faculty is actively engaging students with the learning process. There are few greater challenges than transforming a traditional classroom or an online classroom into a stimulating and enjoyable active learning opportunity. Experiential learning can be one remedy to the potentially dull process of disseminating information to our students. What fun active learning activities have you used to engage students in their own learning process? Please consider sharing one of your active learning strategies. Proposals should reflect teaching methods which foster an active and engaging learning experience, such as: - Student collaboration - Supplemental learning - Field study (local study abroad ) - Technology for learning - Service-based learning strategies - Use of film / video - Internships / externships - Use of multiple intelligences - Guided discovery strategies - Use of games - Study abroad - Student led activities - Civic engagement activities - Peer mentor / tutor / coach See page 2 for proposal guidelines
