14 The National NCD Status Report Tool to understand and assess the national/regional response to NCDs from a civil society perspective. Developed by an Expert Review Committee (ERC): - one representative of each NCD Alliance Federation - the NCD Alliance s Executive Director of Policy and Campaigns -one representative of each of the National Implementing Partners - Sir George Alleyne, Director Emeritus of PAHO -Chris Bostickof Action on Smoking and Health (ASH).
15 The National NCD Status Report -Objectives To complement and support government official surveillance, monitoring and reporting on NCDs. To identify progress, good practice and challenges in the NCD response at national (or regional) level. To analyse: stakeholder engagement in NCDs highlight national/regional success stories and best practices identify gaps and challenges faced in the country/region s response to NCDs make calls to action to improve NCD prevention and control summarize national (or regional) NCD response using a benchmarking tool tracking policy and action

Focuses on six modules aligned with the six objectives of the WHO Global NCD Action Plan Reflects commitments in UN Political Declaration on NCDs and WHO Country Capacity Survey (CCS), as well as national/regional commitments Advocates to tailor and to refine indicators
19 The Benchmarking Tool Sample indicators: Inclusion of NCDs in current National Development Plan Government led, supported or endorsed national NCD conference /summit/meeting held in the last 2 years with active participation of CSOs Operational National NCD Plan National Government partnerships with CSOson NCD initiatives National policies and regulatory controls on marketing to children of foods high in fats, trans fatty acids, free sugars or salt Increased taxes on alcohol in last 5 years Number of tobacco (m)power policies/interventions in existence Government initiatives strengthening the capacity of primary health care for NCDs: Treatment and referral (advocates to add own indicators) Government funding support for national research on NCDs National NCD targets/indicators with monitoring mechanisms in place
