1 POSITION DESCRIPTION POSITION TITLE: Education and Training Coordinator STATUS: PART TIME 0.8 EFT REPORTING TO: Training Operations Manager, Jesuit Community College 1. JESUIT SOCIAL SERVICES OVERVIEW Jesuit Social Services stands in solidarity with those in need, expressing a faith that promotes justice. Building relationships is at the heart of our work. In everything we do we strive to be welcoming, discerning and courageous. 2. BACKGROUND Jesuit Social Services includes Jesuit Community College, a Registered Training Organisation and Learn Local organisation. For people facing significant barriers to learning, the College provides opportunities for personal development, a solid foundation for further education and offers a wider range of accredited and non-accredited vocational education and training and pathways to further study and work. The College also brokers opportunities for learners to access training offered by other training organisations in ways that suit their needs and circumstances. 1
2 The College works with people with a range of social and cultural backgrounds, many of whom face multiple and complex barriers to participating in education, training and employment. Enrolment priority is given to people involved in or exiting the justice system, young people exiting protective care, indigenous Australians, recent arrivals and refugees, culturally and linguistically diverse communities, people with multiple and complex needs, people at risk of homelessness, early school leavers and the long term unemployed. The College puts strong emphasis on providing innovative, flexible and supported training to meet individual learner needs, maximising opportunities for learners to develop skills and creating education and training pathways that move learners towards further study, work or more fulfilling involvement in their community. It works closely with agencies, organisations and individuals working with priority learner groups, including Jesuit Social Services programs, Housing and Community Building, Corrections Victoria, Job Services Australia providers, Local Learning and Employment Networks, Youth Connections providers, local government and community sector workers involved in providing case management, pathway planning and advice on employment, education and training pathways. It also works closely with other education providers, community organisations and industry to smooth transitions for graduates of the College to further study, volunteering or employment. 3. KEY OBJECTIVES OF THE POSITION The Education and Training, Coordinator will report to the Training Operations Manager, Jesuit Community College. This will include supporting and coordinating trainers/assessors, developing training solutions to meet packaging guidelines that address the requirements of learners and partner organizations, and maintaining service and quality systems to support the delivery of high quality and flexible training experiences for learners. The objectives of the position are: 3.1 To work as part of an integrated team to develop training programs and training arrangements across Jesuit Social Services that: are coordinated, strategic, innovative and provide value for money respond to social policy issues in the broader environment are consistent with the Mission of Jesuit Social Services draw on the practice experience of the Jesuit community, Jesuit Social Services staff and program participants are compliant with guidelines and standards for training delivery and assessment. 3.2 To ensure that any training delivered or endorsed by Jesuit Social Services offers participants a clear pathway to further learning, work or more fulfilling involvement in the community. 3.3 Develop, maintain and publish accurate training schedules for all accredited training delivered by the Jesuit Community College inclusive of training plans, timetables and relevant learning and assessment strategies. 2
3 3.4 To Coordinate and Supervise the Community College trainers, including maintain copies of all resources, courseware, handouts and software timesheets and trainer files. 3.4 To be responsible for all data pertaining to course delivery, assessment and student records are uploaded onto the student management system in line with the requirements of Skills Victoria. 3.5 To provide advice and analysis to the Training Operations Manager, Jesuit Community College on potential service partnerships and pathways into, through and out of Jesuit Community College. 4. DUTIES 4.1 Working closely with the Learning and Employment Advisors, act as an internal training consultant across Jesuit Social Services to identify training needs in program areas, as well as opportunities to recognise skills people have when they enter our programs and skills they develop through program activity. 4.2 Develop creative and innovative teaching and learning strategies and approaches, with a strong focus on adult literacy and numeracy using Vocational and General Education Curriculum frameworks, to address the learning needs of people facing a range of barriers to participating in education, training and employment. 4.3 Demonstrate full commitment to the compliance requirements of Skills Victoria, the VRQA and the AQTF including participating in professional development activities as required, participating in regular team meetings, producing all required documentation including outcomes and training plans from the student management system in a timely manner, participating in an external audit on an annual basis and an internal audit on a bi-annual basis, participating in moderation and validation on a bi-annual basis and ensuring all assessment tasks include relevant benchmarks. 4.4 Develop and maintain a student data collection process and procedure to provide information on a monthly basis to Training Operations Manager. Information relevant to student pathways into, through and out of Jesuit Community College including; referrals, intake, outcomes and post enrolment of Jesuit Community College. 4.5 Upload and maintain all data pertaining to course delivery on the student management system, Vettrak and Skills Victoria (SVTS) and provide monthly reports to the Operations Manager. 4.6 Provide direct support and supervision to the team leader and training team to ensure they are adequately resourced and able to achieve the overall aims and objectives of the programs. 5 KEY SELECTION CRITERIA 5.1 Demonstrated commitment and capacity to engage with disadvantaged young people, families and communities. 3
4 5.2 Sound understanding of access and equity issues in adult education and issues in engaging hard to reach learners. 5.3 Expertise in designing adult language, literacy and numeracy programs. 5.4 Sound understanding of the vocational education and training system in Victoria and the national vocational education and training policy environment. 5.5 Expertise in operating student management systems and understanding of data collection methodology. 5.6 Ability to work in a diverse team and in diverse training environments. 5.7 Commitment to and demonstrated capacity to work within and provide leadership in the ethos, values and culture of Jesuit Social Services. 5.8 Successful Police Check, current Working with Children Check and Victorian. 6. KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS Key Performance Indicators will be developed and finalised within the first three months of this contract, in line with the finalisation of the Strategic Plan. 7. QUALIFICATIONS A degree in education, social sciences or a related discipline Certificate IV in Training and Assessment Specialist study in adult literacy and numeracy 8. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT Conditions of employment are in accordance with the current Jesuit Social Services Collective Agreement and Jesuit Social Services Policy & Procedures including the Code of Conduct. 4
