1 VKD4net Virtual Keypad over Ethernet for PIMA Intruder Alarm Systems Installation guide VKD4net is a hardware & software solution for creating a virtual keypad on a remote PC/laptop and connecting it over Ethernet, to one of PIMA s intruder alarm systems. The virtual keypad simulates an LCD keypad, just as if it is connected to the control panel, and by that it enables the VKD4net user to control the alarm system from virtually everywhere in the world. The VKD4net can be used locally over LAN, or remotely over the internet. VKD4net Internet VKD Figure 1. The VKD4net mode of operation This guide does not include instructions for configuring your network to use the net4pro-i card (such as Port Forwarding). THE PRODUCT KIT The VKD4net kit includes the following 2 items: VKD4net module installed in a plastic box; VKD installation CD with the product manual in it. PRELIMINARY REQUIREMENTS The net4pro-i must carry a Static IP address; PC/laptop with OS Windows XP or newer; CAT 5 network cable; 4-wire harness.

2 2 VKD4net Installation and User Guide MODE OF OPERATION The VKD4net module is made of the net4pro-i 1 network card and a syncing module. The product works as follows: the VKD is a virtual keypad application. It is installed on a PC/laptop that connects to the VKD4net module over the internet. The VKD4net module is connected to the control panel s BUS with a 4-wire harness. Once connected, the VKD simulates a real LCD keypad on the PC/laptop screen, just as if it is physically connected to the control panel on the premises. Using a 4-wire harness, connect the VKD4net module to the control panel s BUS. The connection can be directly to the PCB s KEYPAD terminals, or to one of the expanders. Wiring is simple: terminal 1 on the module connects to the KEYPAD s terminal 1 and so forth. The 4-wire harness is limited to 500 meters in length. It is recommended to install the VKD4net module close to the BUS, so the CAT 5 cable will as long as necessary. 2. Connect the net4pro-i to the network using a standard CAT 5 cable. 3. Install the VKD application. See page 5 for instructions. CONFIGURING THE net4pro-i CAT 5 cable The net4pro-i network card is based on LANTRONIX Xport Serial-to-Ethernet compact device server. To configure it you need to use the LANTRONIX Device installer application. 1. Follow the next link to download and install the Device installer : 2. Run the application. If a windows security massage is displayed, press Unblock. 3. Press the Search icon (top-left). The application now searches for Xport devices. If the Xport module (i.e., the net4pro-i) is not found, check the cable connection and make sure the net4pro-i is connected to the same network as the Device installer. 1 P/N

Click the plus sign on the left menu to display the module s details. Figure 4. The device details 5. On the top of the right pane, click the Web configuration tab and click the green "Navigate to" button to the right of the address bar. See the next figure. Figure 5. Web configuration 6. In the window that pops-up, press "OK". The Xport Configuration Manager will now be displayed. Figure 6. Network configuration

In the Use the following IP configuration section, enter the net4pro-i IP address, the Subnet Mask and the Default Gateway (Router) address. For example: IP address ; Subnet Mask: ; Default Gateway: Press OK to save. The word Done! should appear briefly next to the OK button. 10. Press "Serial Setting" on the left menu. 11. Set the Baud Rate to Check the Enable Packing checkbox. Figure 7. Serial setting 13. From the Idle Gap Time drop-down list, select 52 msec. 14. Press OK to save. The word Done! should appear next to the OK button. 15. Press Connection on the left menu. See the next figure. 16. From the Active Connect drop-down list, select None. 17. In the Endpoint Configuration section, enter the Local Port number, i.e., the port that the net4pro-i listens to 1. In the figure, the Local Port is set to Figure 8. Connection settings 18. Press OK to save. The word Done! should appear next to the OK button. 19. Press "Apply settings" on the left menu, and wait for the net4pro-i to reboot. 1 Make sure the Auto increment for active connection checkbox is unchecked.

5 VKD4net Installation and User Guide 5 Figure 9. Rebooting the net4pro-i 1. It is recommended to also reboot the net4pro-i manually, by disconnecting it from power for few seconds. 2. To connect to the VKD4net over the Internet, you need to configure your Router for Port Forwarding. See instructions in the following link: INSTALLING & RUNNING THE VKD APPLICATION The VKD Virtual Keypad application comes on a CD. To install it: 1. Insert the CD and wait for the application to run automatically. To run it manually, double-click the file VKD.exe, located on the CD. 2. From the drop-down list, select your language and press OK. 3. Click Next and again in the Software License Agreement screen. 4. To install the VKD in its default location, click Next. To choose a different location, click Browse.

6 6 VKD4net Installation and User Guide 5. From the drop-down list, select Network Installation and click Next. 6. Click Next in the next screens and Install. 7. In the final screen, leave the Launch VKD checkbox to run the VKD immediately after installation. 8. Click Finish. 9. Press the Settings icon on the virtual keypad. Figure 10. In the pop up window, on the Select Address drop-down list, enter the IP address and port of the VKD4net module (i.e., the net4pro-i) in the following way: IP:port For example: :10001 Figure 11. 7 VKD4net Installation and User Guide 7 Using several net4pro modules To use more than a single module, the details of the modules are saved in a text file, located in the VKD folder (C:\Program Files\PIMA\VKD), under the name VKD_CUST.TXT. The details are entered as follows: each line contains the details of a single module: the IP address, port number and name of the module. Enter the details in the following way: IP:port;name. For example: :10120;Home. When you finish, save the file. Figure 12. Example IP text file The next time you open the Select Address drop-down list, you will see all the modules you have entered and you can select between them.
