1 JOMO KENYATTA UNIVERSY OF AGRICULTURE AND TECHNOLOGY (JKUAT) School of Open, Distance and elearning (SODeL) ANNOUNCES THE OPEN, DISTANCE AND elearning PROGRAMMES January 2016 Intake JKUAT has introduced the new mode of learning coordinated by the School of Open, Distance and elearning (SODeL) previously known as the Continuing Education Programme (CEP). JKUAT SODeL wishes to announce the January 2016 Intake into various distance learning programmes Curriculum The curriculum offered is approved by the University Senate and facilitated by Senate approved lecturers. All the examinations will be moderated, administered and processed by the University Senate. Upon completion of the respective programmes, awarding and graduation by the University Senate for all Degree and Diploma students will be at the JKUAT main Campus in Juja. Mode of Delivery For each semester, enrolled students will be required to attend two (2) on-campus sessions and undertake most of the learning on their own while being supported online through our accomplished learning management system. DISTANCE LEARNING PROGRAMMES CERTIFICATES & DIPLOMAS DEPARTMENT COURSE MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS DURATION Certificate in Technology (C) KCSE grade C-, D+ in Mathematics and English Or Division III with Credit pass on Mathematics and English in KCE Or the equivalent. Maximum 6 months College of Health Sciences Certificate in HIV/Aids & counseling KCSE a mean grade C-(minus) Or KCE DIV III Diploma in Technology (D)- Stage I KCSE mean C and C- in English and Mathematics Or Div II in KCE with credit pass in Mathematics and English. Maximum 36 months (Including attachment) College of Health Sciences Diploma in HIV/Aids & counseling KCSE mean grade C and grades C (minus) in English/Kiswahili and Biology UNDERGRADUATE DEGREES 1

2 DEPARTMENT COURSE MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS DURATION Procurement Procurement and Contract [BPCM] Year I entry: KCSE Mean of C+ and C in Mathematics and English. OR KACE of 2 Principal & 1 subsidiary passes, and a credit pass in Mathematics at KCE. Year II entry: Holders of JKUAT Diploma in Purchasing & Supplies with Credit & above will be exempted for the first Academic Year. Maximum 6 years and 4 years for midlevel entry; 2 Years for Diploma Holders Commerce & Economic Studies Technology [BB] YEAR 1 ENTRY: 1. Be a holder of KCSE (or equivalent examination) certificate with a minimum aggregate of C+ and a minimum of C in both Mathematics and English OR 2. Be a holder of KACE certificate with a minimum of two principal passes and subsidiary pass and a minimum of credit pass in Mathematics at KCE OR 3. Be a holder of a diploma in a relevant discipline from an institution recognized by the University Senate. NOTE: Holders of Diploma in a relevant discipline with a Credit & above from JKUAT or any institution recognized by the University Senate shall be exempted from Year I of study. Commerce & Economic Studies Commerce [BCOM] YEAR I ENTRY KCSE (or equivalent examination) certificate with a minimum aggregate of C+ and a minimum of C in both Mathematics and English OR KACE with a minimum of two principal passes and a subsidiary pass and a minimum of credit pass in Mathematics at KCE OR Holder of a diploma in a relevant discipline from an institution recognized by the University Senate. NOTE: (i) Holders of Diploma in a relevant discipline with a Credit & above from JKUAT or any institution recognized by the University Senate shall be exempted from Year I of study. (ii) Holders of CPA (K)/CPS (K)/ACCA/CCP will be exempted from Year I of study. However, the candidates are expected to undertake the University core units. Technology [BSC] - Year I entry: KCSE with a minimum of C+ and C in both English and Mathematics OR KACE with 2 Principal and 1 subsidiary passes OR JKUAT D with a PASS. Year II entry: JKUAT D/ DM with Credit pass & above. 2

3 Computing Computing [BSCBC] -Stage I Year I entry: KCSE with a minimum of C+ and C in both English and Mathematics OR KACE with 2 Principal and 1 subsidiary passes OR JKUAT DBC with a PASS. Year II entry: JKUAT BC with Credit pass & above. POSTGRADUATE DEGREES DEPARTMENT COURSE MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS DURATION Computing in Computer Systems Horticulture in ICT (Integration and Instructional Postgraduate Diploma in ICT (Integration and Instructional Postgraduate Certificate in ICT (Integration and Instructional Masters in Research Methods 1. Holders of a Bachelors degree of at least 2 nd Class 2. Holders of a Bachelor Degree of at least Lower 2 nd Class Honours from a recognized University with at least three years experience. 3. Holders of a Bachelor Degree with a Pass and working experience of at least 5 years. 4. Any other qualification from an institution recognized by senate and equivalent to (1) and (2) above. 1. Holders of a Bachelors degree of at least 2 nd Class 2. Holders of a Bachelor Degree of at least Lower 2 nd Class Honours from a recognized University with at least three years experience. 3. A holder of other qualifications recognized by JKUAT Senate as being equivalent to (1), (2) and Minimum 2 years and Maximum 4 years comprising 2 Semesters Coursework and 1 year Thesis 1 year 6 months Minimum 2 years and Maximum 4 years comprising 3 Semesters Coursework and 1 semester project work. 3
