1 Overview IBM has recently announced its new Cognos Business Intelligence packs for Maximo. The packs provide high level visualisations and insight into key functional areas of the business including Work Order, Asset, Asset Failure and Supply Chain Management. Triangle has downloaded and installed these packs and this document will explain a few of our observations and ideas around these report packs. Tips and Tricks Using the Reports What to do if the pictures are missing When we first loaded the Launching Page the pictures on each of the four widgets were missing. This was because the URL for the image was set to the wrong file type. In order to fix this, click in the widget and a header bar will appear. Click on the Do More cog on the right. This will allow you do edit the contents. Double click on the missing picture icon and the URL box will appear. Change the.gif to.png. Then click Done at the top right hand corner of the page.

2 What to do if the links to the reports error When we first clicked on one of the report links we got the following error: In order to fix this we needed to reset the link to the report. In Cognos Connection click on publicmd, then Work Order and Classification, then Work Order Workspaces. The Launching Page and the Learn More pages are at the top, then the 4 work order dashboards are listed below. To the right of each is the Properties icon. Click this, then click View the search path, ID and URL. Select the Default action URL and copy it. Go back to the Launching Page and click on the Do More cog on the Work Order Metrics widget. Double click on the appropriate link and paste in the correct URL. Then click Done at the top right hand corner of the page.

3 How to customise the charts Using Work Order Metrics by Work Priority as an example we decided to change a couple of things about the charts. We ordered the charts by Priority and we changed Unplanned Work to a stacked chart to help visualisation. To change the chart type you can use the following button from the widget header bar: To order by the Priority, click on the Do More cog in the right hand side of the widget header bar and then select the Work Priority item in the categories box. Then click on the sort icon at the top of the window. Then click Done.

4 Update legacy charts The graphs and charts in this pack are Legacy style so that they are compatible with Cognos 8. If you are running Cognos 10 you will be able to update to the look that you are used to in Cognos 10 very easily. Click on the widget and click on the Do More cog on the right hand side of the header bar. Right click on the chart and click Convert Chart. Pick the new style chart you would like and click Done.

5 Observations Drill Down Capability It is common for high level KPI dashboards to highlight obvious areas of anomaly in order to indicate an area of exception. The usual subsequent step is to drill into the anomalous area. These report packs are built in Cognos Business Insight (Now known as Cognos Workspace) and therefore do not allow any drill through capability. This means the manager using the report would then have to navigate through Cognos Connection and find a secondary report if one existed, or go to Maximo itself to investigate further. Triangle has developed these reports to add additional drill down functionality to enhance the user experience if using the report packs. Maximo Registration of Reports Triangle have found that there is usually a requirement to register the Cognos reports in the Maximo application as this means a user only has to log in once, they have experience using the reporting module within Maximo and they have a fully circular process moving between application screens and reports. These report packs are developed in Cognos Business Insight which, at this point, can t be registered and accessed through the Maximo application. Navigation The Launching Page looks great and really useful as a navigation platform but there is no way to return to it once you have opened your first report. Every report after the first one needs to be opened manually from Cognos Connection or the user needs to re-open the launching page. Triangle has further developed these reports by adding a navigation item that allows the user to return easily to the launch page. Report Content We have found that many companies are only performing site level comparisons at a high management level, and that the broad user base will use reports set for their default site. This narrows the audience for these report packs significantly.

6 Conclusion Triangle believe that these report packs are a great base for high level Maximo KPI reporting. In order to make these report packs more widely usable we believe they can be used as a standard point of conformity and reports can be expanded and created according to the observations we have made. To this point, we have recreated the report packs using Cognos 10.2 Report Studio to allow the following functionality: Register and access reports through Maximo and link back to Maximo for circular functionality Drill down capability Increased Navigation within the report pages We also believe much can be done in the way of customising the report content, such as comparing teams instead sites, as per each business, process and audience requires. This would essentially give you a high level management version of these dashboards in conjunction with a much more operational counterpart.
