4 MESSAGE OF GREETINGS FROM THE PRESIDENT of the Federal German Association of Textile Retail Trade (BTE) Due to the quality of their training and good connections to partner companies LDT Nagold enjoys a high reputation in the field of fashion business. Established in 1949 as a private institution, LDT Nagold raises their own budget and thus guarantees a certain amount of independence from teaching and research. As the president of the Federal German Association of Textile Retail Trade (BTE) and chairman of the board of directors of LDT Nagold Pvt. Ltd., I wish our Academy of Textile and Shoe Business all the best for the future and our students good success in their professional careers. 5 MESSAGE OF GREETINGS FROM THE CHAIRPERSON of the Federal German Association of Shoe Retail Trade (BDSE) Owing to the long-standing reputation of LDT Nagold, the European Educational Forum of Shoe Retail Trade (EBS) has been relocated to Nagold. Now, after five years of solid collaboration, it has become evident, how successful the work of LTD Nagold is for the whole outfit branch of trade. In various courses of study young people are well groomed to become an executive in shoe retail trade, for others it is an excellent training in order to become self-employed in this field in future. Consequently, the incumbent president of the Federal Association does not only work as a member of the board of directors but also brings himself in as a lecturer in the course of study. The city is proud to have this academy, which is unique in Germany and feels pleased to be your host during your studies. The Texer as they are called in colloquial language, make our city livelier and are most welcome here. Some of the alumni even stayed in Nagold and likewise there are people from Nagold who have affiliated themselves to these Texers and live today all over the world. Since more than five decades a large number of young professionals of leading German and European textile companies are trained and groomed for leading positions here in Nagold. Changing the name from Specialized School to Specialized Academy demonstrates the self-image of LDT: to be a modern market oriented educational institute which trains the students with widely needed qualifications in a demand- and target-oriented way. The LTD accordingly conforms to the globalizing markets and equips the future managers of the fashion business with necessary knowledge. 11 LDT NAGOLD Postgraduate courses and additional qualifications The courses of study train for holding high-ranking positions in the fashion business (trade and industry), the management, takeover and start-up of enterprises. The courses of study yield the Manager Textile BTE and Manager Textile Specialization Shoe BTE and are the prerequisite for advanced studies (international orientation). 21 Educational services of the LDT Nagold SPECIALIZED ACADEMY COURSES OF STUDY AT THE SPECIALIZED ACADEMY 4 SEMESTERS AT THE LDT NAGOLD Degree: Manager Textile BTE or Manager Textile BTE Specialization Shoe Admission Prerequisites - Completed Schooling - Apprenticeship - Minimum Age: 20 years This course of study is meant for applicants who already have practical experience. For instance, people who already have completed an apprenticeship in commerce or in a profession, which is related to the field of fashion business. Exceptions Applicants with advanced school leaving certificate or special school leaving certificate without any degree in a recognized professional course in commerce who have at least one-year professional experience in the field of fashion business. People interested are requested to contact the management board of the LDT Nagold before submitting their applications. 22 Educational services of the LDT Nagold COURSES OF STUDY AT THE SPECIALIZED ACADEMY - 4 SEMESTERS AT THE LDT NAGOLD Degree: Manager in Textile BTE or Manager Textile BTE Specialization Shoe Progression of the courses of study The beginning of the courses for students with the goal to hold an Manager Textile BTE is in the middle of March (summer term) and in the middle of September (winter term). Students with the goal to hold a Manager Textile BTE Specialization Shoe start their courses usually in the middle of March (summer term). Classes One semester in each case comprises of 14 weeks of classes Semester Holidays There are no classes from the end of January to the middle of March (beginning of the summer term) as well as from the end of July to the middle of September (beginning of the winter term). These periods of time are meant for practical training and for writing the term papers. Modular structure of the courses of study The structure of the courses of study of LDT Nagold focuses on both developing professional competence and appropriate social skills. The structure of the courses of study decisively contributes to the development of vigorous teaching and learning skills amongst the students. Teaching Units The teaching units are organized in block classes to enhance the efficiency of the training courses. Respective sections of practical lessons and exercises are integrated into the teaching units. One day of study at a time encompasses two half days of 3 x 75 minutes classes. There are breaks arranged between the various block classes, which can be used flexibly to suit the interests of the students and lecturers. Training Units In each half-day teaching unit an additional training unit of 45 minutes is included. In these training units unsettled questions are answered and further exercises and case studies are worked on and discussed with the lecturers. Subject Groups The classes are combined into four subject groups Administration and Organisation Sale and Procurement Human Resource Management Goods: Textile and Shoes The subject groups 1 3 deal with themes of business administration, the forth subject group deals with goods knowledge. Business administration and goods knowledge are combined to guarantee professionalism in the future everyday working life. Consequently, it is possible to adequately teach the connections between commercial and product-related tasks. Subject groups (see graphs pages 22 and 23 22

23 The Structure of the Courses of Study The structure of the courses of study allows choices for various subjects of goods knowledge and business administration (see graph page 20). At the Beginning of the Study Decision either for the field of goods knowledge in textile or for goods knowledge in shoes is to be taken. Respectively the degree will be delivered as Manager Textile BTE or Manager Textile BTE Specialization Shoe. At the Beginning of the Specialization At the third semester, students have to choose between business administration in the fields of Retail or Wholesale. The specialization is noted in the leaving certificate (e.g. Manager Textile BTE with specialization in retail). Examination Procedures The study and examination regulations of LDT Nagold that are valid at the time of examination are mandatory in the carrying out of the respective parts of the exams. Basic Level First and Second Semester Lessons in basic subjects of the four subject groups (core lessons). The emphasis is on the imparting of basic knowledge. Presentations of Companies Renowned partner companies of LDT Nagold in the field of commerce and industry introduce the theme of business philosophy. Concerns of human resource management and professional opportunities are dealt with and frank discussions conducted. Advancement to Third Semester For moving to the specialization grade it is required to pass certain exams (according to the examination regulations) Specialization Grade Third and Fourth semester Lessons in the major subjects of the four subject groups Major Subjects There are about 70 major subjects the students can choose from. These are selected in accordance with the professional objectives of the students and are also dependant upon the individual professional specialization. The specialization grade has a very strong practical-orientation instead of delivering lectures case studies are worked on. Special Weeks of Goods Knowledge These special weeks in the third and fourth semester focus especially on goods knowledge. By teaching in block seminars the optimal combination of various themes of this subject group is accomplished. Single themes are assessed and analyzed through different perspectives also by conducting workshops. The results are presented orally or in written form and subsequently graded. Renowned experts in the field conduct these special weeks. These guest lecturers are from Germany as well as from neighbouring countries such as Austria and Switzerland.. 24 Educational services of the LDT Nagold COURSES OF STUDY AT THE SPECIALIZED ACADEMY - 4 SEMESTERS AT THE LDT NAGOLD Degree: Manager in Textile BTE or Manager Textile BTE Specialization Shoe Order Training Staff members of the production and sales management of famous manufacturers teach in the field of purchasing from the third semester onwards. After the arrangement of working groups and the briefing by the lecturers the order and placing of limits are exercised realistically by taking always the newest collections. The decisions of the students are jointly analyzed and assessed. Excursions LDT Nagold offers regular excursions from the third semester onwards. This includes also sports excursions and educational trips to major shoe manufacturers in Italy. Groups of students visit partner companies and chambers of commerce dealing with the fashion business. They learn about specialties of products and brands and obtain an insight into the higher echelons of management of this branch. Often it happens that even members of the board of management of these companies are ready to answer the questions of these student groups of LDT Nagold. The excursions are reviewed in reports. Examinations Written Tests After seven weeks of studies there is a week of written tests, at the end of the term there are more written tests in all major subjects. Term Paper The term paper usually written in the fourth semester- is meant to prove the professional and methodological capabilities. Complex subject matters have to be analyzed and appropriate solutions have to be presented. The term paper represents together with the Large Case Study a kind of fifth subject group. The marks are a part of leaving certificate. Large Case Study In the course of the fourth semester the Large Case Study is worked on. Within this course a team (4 students) is usually designing a specialized trade undertaking with all its different levels of planning.
