MLogger Series instruments are true digital data acquisition systems that take full advantage of modern technology. They provide a linear response from 1% to 100% methane with very little intervention from the operator. The operator zeros the total gas detector and calibrates the chromatograph detector. The TGC is a true gas chromatograph that gives a calibrated value of C 1, C 2, C 3, I-C 4, and N-C 4.

The ability to edit data and display it in meaningful form is what distinguishes a rig-based gas detector from a logging instrument. Total gas curve. Gas and ROP values are displayed as colored curves on a chart that can be toggled between time-based or depth-based. All scales can be changed as needed. Depth tics appear on the right hand side of the chart. On/off bottom and circulating/not circulating status show as solid colored lines as they occur. Logging parameters are also displayed in digital form in the boxes at the upper right corner of the MControl screen. Parameters such as depth and lag time are easily set using drop-down menus under the setup tab.

All logging functions are running on the instrument. The control and display functions, along with the log editor are on the Windows computer. A network cable connects MLogger to the computer. All the data on MLogger is copied to the computer each time you log on, providing a secure backup. To export data to the mud log editor you simply drop down the file menu and select LAS or ASCII. Then select All Data and save into a folder. The file will import directly into most mud log editors. Information saved in the LAS file includes: depth, rate of penetration, total gas, and C 1 through N-C 4, if a chromatograph is present. All gas values are lagged.

MLogger is built on the Linux platform because of its stability and native networkability. Linux servers often run for years without re-booting. MLogger logging instruments are also network servers, with a built-in router and switch. The MLogger network can be as simple as giving the company man access to the MLogger data, or as advanced as sharing a satellite Internet connection around the rig. MControl allows one password protected Logger and multiple Observers to log on simultaneously. Once a properly configured Internet connection is made, interested parties can log onto the system via the Internet from wherever they may be. Mudlogging Systems, Inc. maintains a secure Internet data hub for mud log and well information storage. Administrators set up password protected user accounts for interested parties to use to view, upload, and download logs and documents.

The communications capabilities of the MLogger series provide the ability to observe or operate the instrument from off-site.
