At-A-Glance Case Study Client: Spencer Community School District Situation: Spencer Community is located in northwestern Iowa and serves more than 2,400 students. Spencer Community s school buses travel on both urban and rural roads each day. School buses are the safest vehicles on the road 70 times safer than cars, light trucks and vans. Yet approximately 33 school-aged children are killed each year in busrelated accidents in the U.S., and the majority of those deaths occur in the 10-foot area surrounding the bus because of passing motorists who disregard the stop arm. Results: After school bus drivers complained of passing motorists endangering the lives of children, community officials began researching video technology to record violations and provide irrefutable evidence of breaking the law.
