1 Harbin Engineering University Harbin Engineering University (in short HEU, formerly Harbin Military Engineering Institute) is located in Harbin, ice city, near beautiful Songhua River. HEU is one of the key universities in the national "211 Project" (to set up 100 national key universities in 21st Century) and the first batch of key constructed universities in China having graduate school. HEU s major personnel training and scientific research in the field of shipbuilding engineering, ocean exploration, and nuclear energy applications. Founded in 1953, HEU has become to the comprehensive university focusing on engineering, combining with sciences, economics, humanities, and law; and also is the qualified institution of receiving Chinese Government Scholarship students. There are 3168 staff at HEU, including 8 academicians, 290 doctoral tutors, 1,180 professors and associate professors, and students in different levels and 700 foreign students; and has 11 post-doctoral research stations, 31 doctoral disciplines, 94 master's disciplines, (including MBA, MPA), and 50 undergraduate disciplines. To promote the process of talents internationalization of education, HEU had taught the first batch of two master students in the degree program, lecturing in English, of Design and Construction of Naval Architecture and Ocean Structure, national key discipline, since 1997; recently, the degree programs lecturing in English have developed more characteristic and multi-level, such as shipbuilding engineering, nuclear energy engineering, etc. totally 48 degree programs lecturing in English, including 3 B.Eng programs, 30 M.Eng programs, and 15 D.Eng programs. Since 1997, HEU has enrolled 185 international students, 25 for B.Eng. 39 for M.Eng and 2 for D.Eng programs lecturing in English had graduated. Adhering to the policies of internationalization and open-running, HEU has established wide and substantial partnerships with over 100 universities and research institutions, more than 20 countries, such as California University, Berkeley, North Dakota State University, the University of Sydney, etc. about joint programs of undergraduate, postgraduate and doctorate levels. Each flat is equipped with bathroom, furniture, beddings, washing machine, shower, refrigerator, TV set, Internet jack, etc.) Intrduction of HEU Master and Doctorate Degree Programs Taught in English In order to promote the internationalization as university running policy, we have provided the degree program, since 1997, of Design and Construction of Naval Architecture and Ocean Structure, which was taught in complete English. There are 30 Master degree programs and 15 Doctorate degree programs, taught in English, among 13 colleges, such as College of Shipbuilding Engineering, College of Aerospace and Civil Engineering, College of Power and Energy Engineering, College of Automation, College of Computer Science and Technology, College of Mechanical Electrical Engineering, College of Information and Communications Engineering, College of Material Science and Chemical Engineering, College of Science, and College of Nuclear Science and Technology etc. HEU has professional and excellent teaching and research teams. All the teachers and supervisors, in above mentioned research fields, have oversea study and research experience. Civil Engineering Program: This program is held by the College or Aerospace and Civil Engineering, and aims to educate the high-tech professionals to master the theories and knowledge of Engineering Mechanics, Fluid Mechanics, Rock Mechanics and Structural Design; to be engaged in the plan, design, research development, construction and management of the civil engineering program; to design, research, educate, manage, and develop technology in the areas of constructions, pathway and cityroad project, bridge project, tunnel and subway project, and airport project etc. The main course: theoretical mechanics, structural mechanics, rock mechanics, fluid mechanics, material mechanics, concrete structures, masonry structures, steel structure, housing and architecture, civil engineering construction technology, civil engineering construction budget, project organization and management, civil engineering surveying, seismic design, bridge structure and road survey design etc. II. Business Administration Program: This program is held by School of Economics and Management, and aims to educate advanced professionals to master the knowledge and ability of management, economics, laws and corporation management; to know the policy, regulations, and rules of Chinese corporation management as well as international corporation management principles; and to be engaged in managing teaching, researching in the companies, institutions, and governmental departments. The students in this program, mainly, will study the fundamental theories and knowledge of management, economics and corporational management, approaches, skills, and have the basic ability of analysis and solve the problems of corporation management.
