3 1. Introduction The numeric multi powered Over-current Relay CSDPR is a universal protection device specially designed for ring main units & feeder protection. It combines the following functions in one unit: Relay get energize either from Current,Aux. Voltage, front USB, Solar module or internal battery (whichever is available) O/C, S/C, E/F and E/F High Set protection DEFT and Inverse characteristics for O/C and E/F, individually selected for phase and earth fault Unbalance/ Asymmetric Protection Potential pulse output for direct triggering the circuit breaker with potential free alarm contacts. Remote Trip & Remote Protection Block input DI RS485-Modbus communication rear panel USB port for VIS (Virtual Injection System) Circuit breaker failure protection(50bf) Wide operating ranges of the auxiliary supply voltage (AC/DC) Last 5 Fault Record with Time stamp Solar Power Module Interface Digital filtering of measured quantities by using discrete Fourier analysis to suppress harmonics/dc/inrush Trip Counter for Breaker 2. Design Relay will get energized from any of the following available sources 1. Aux. Supply 2. CT Current 3. Internal Battery 4. USB Port 5. Solar cells Relay will operate its trip contacts only when CT current is present or Aux. Supply is available, with other power sources the relay can only edit & view the parameters & records. In the absence of Aux/Battery voltage/usb/solar panel relay will get energized if CT current in single phase is at least 20% of rated current. [This is not true for Neutral CT, minimum required current must flow in phase]. In case of three phases, relay will get energize from 15% of rated current. The Solar-Powered Relay: CSDPR can be energized from small 6V/0.5W solar panel. It will not only save the battery but also keep energize the relay like an auxiliary/battery powered relay. (Solar module plate is not the part of supply). 2.1 Analog Input The analog input signal of the conductor currents as per the terminal detail section 7.3, are fed to the protective device via separate input transformers. The continuously measured current values are galvanically isolated, analog & digitally filtered and finally fed to the analog/digital converter to get the True RMS value. 2.2 Front Panel The front panel of the protective device CSDPR comprises the following operation and indication elements: LCD ( 16 x 2) with Bright -Light Keypad with 5 keys: For setting of the parameters of the relay. Power On & off key to energize the relay from Battery 10 LEDs for fault annunciation Front Battery cover to replace battery. 2.3 Keypads The front panel keypad consists of five soft-touch keys. These keys are marked as RESET/E, +, - > and <. The RESET/E key provides reset function to the relay & act as Enter key for MMI. The keys marked? and? are meant for backward and forward scrolling respectively. The keys marked + and - are used for incrementing and decrementing selected parameter value. 2.4 Battery Power Key Middle key is the Battery Power On key to energize the relay with battery. Press of BAT.OFF key will switch off the battery power supply or relay will get automatically switch off after 15sec if keys are inactive, to save the battery life. 2.5 LEDs There are 10 LEDs on the front panel. Their functions are indicated by the appropriate inscriptions along with them. All LEDs are with Memory backup & they will maintain the previous status until fault is acknowledged through manual reset. The working is equivalent to a digital flag. Blinking of these LEDs indicates the pickup of element & steady state indicates the trip. 2.6 Fault Recording CSDPR records last 5 Faults. In Fault, it saves following information Value at Fault : L1, L2, L3, E in Amps Type of fault : SC: / OL / U0 Time Stamp : HH:MM:Sec Date Stamp : DD:MM:YY Fault recording is only possible with Aux. Supply/CT Current/Internal Battery Power/USB Powered 3

4 2.7 Trip Output In presence of Aux Supply: 4 Potential Free Contacts and 1 Potential O/P (24V/12V@0.2jouls /50msec ON Pulse). Duty Cycle will depend upon the strength of available current. In presence of only adequate CT current: 1 Potential Free Latch Contact and 1 Potential O/P (24V/12V@0.2jouls / /50msec ON Pulse). Duty Cycle will depend upon the strength of available current. Average 20% of the rated current must required in the phase to trip the breaker. 2.8 Assignment of the Output Relays CSDPR has four output relays. One latch relay is available in all models(except V1.0). Three extra programmable output relays available only in Auxiliary supply model. Relay reset operation can be configurable in automatic reset or manual reset mode from MMI. In automatic reset mode relay will be reset after the current goes below the pick-up level. In manual mode relay will be reset by pressing reset button. *Auto/Manual option is not applicable for Latch Relay. 2.9 Potential Input Two Potential DIs are available for control. DI 1 : Remote Block for 50/50N/51/51N & Unbalance Protection DI 2 : Direct Remote Trip DIs work only in case of Aux. Supply. DI_1 : Blocking the Protection Functions When this input, becomes high it will block the selected protections such as OL/SC /Earth/Earth-high set/u0. The selection of protections for blocking is done from MMI. Blocking will remain active till the potential is available on DI terminal. When DI 1 is low no protection will be blocked. DI_2: Direct Remote Trip In energized condition, irrespective of any pickup or fault user can trip the Circuit breaker, by applying voltage to Remote trip DI. 4. Protection CSDPR offers 50/51/ 50N /51N/ Unbalance/CBFP protections. Overcurrent Characteristic : DEFT / VINV /EINV / NINV Unbalance Protection(46): This is provided by the relay tripping in phase unbalance greater than setting % difference in terms of maximum phase current Tib: [(IMAX- IMIN)/ IMAX] 100[%] Circuit Breaker Failure Protection to CBFP The C.B. failure protection is based on supervision of phase current during tripping events. This protective function becomes active only after tripping. The criteria is whether all phase currents are dropped to <5% x In within set time of tcbfp. If not, then CB failure is detected and the assigned relay is activated. Annunication relay for CBFP only manually reset. Trip counter CSDPR includes on inbuilt CB trip counter which gets incremented after every trip of breaker. it goes maximum up to counts and after that it get reset and after that it get reset to zero again. It can reset through MMI. 5. Battery Pack CSDPR can be powered from battery & it requires 4 AA battery cell. Battery pack is replaceable from front panel. Battery will energize the relay, so that relay can even work in absence of auxiliary supply / CT current or solar power. Under power saving mode, Battery power will get automatically OFF, if no key is pressed for 15sec or press the OFF key. CSDPR requires 4 no of standard AA cell in its battery bank. Life of the battery depends on hour of usage & battery-ah. Li /Ni-Cd chargeable /non-chargeable battery of AA size is acceptable. Note: CSDPR will not charge the battery 3. Communication 3.1 RS485 Communication The CSDPR includes an RS485 communication on rear port.this port is available for MODBUS protocol. CSDPR relay has feature to transmit the data such as settings, measurements and faults to the SCADA system. For this communication auxiliary supply is required. A communication failure dose not affects protection function. 3.2 USB Front Communication The front USB Communication port is designed for VIS- Injection System for which the front end Software is provided. The S/w has features of testing the relay,retrieving the records and changing the settings. Note: Relay is plug & play on USB port. It automatically get energizes from USB port itself. 4
