3 2014 SEASON HIGHLIGHTS CHUCK NOLL DAY AND DECAL Steelers President Art Rooney II announced in July on Steelers Nation Radio that the team will wear helmet decals as part of a season-long commemoration of Chuck Noll s coaching career. The decals, unveiled on Monday, September 1, were displayed on the team s helmets for the fi rst time during the team s Week One home opener against the Cleveland Browns, a date designated Chuck Noll Day as the result of bipartisan resolution introduced by Pennsylvania s two United States Senators Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) and Bob Casey (D-Pa.). Noll, the only coach to win four Super Bowls (IX, X, XIII and XIV), compiled a record in 23 seasons at the helm of the Pittsburgh Steelers from He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in GREENE NUMBER 75 TO BE RETIRED The Steelers will retire Joe Greene s Number 75 in a ceremony on November 2, when the team hosts Baltimore at Heinz Field. Greene, the leader of the Steel Curtain defense during the 1970s, helped lead the team to four Super Bowl victories and six AFC Championship game appearances. Throughout his 13-year playing career, all with Pittsburgh, Greene earned All-NFL honors fi ve times and all-conference accolades 11 straight years to begin his tenure. He was twice named the NFL s Defensive Player of the Year in 1972 and The team s No. 1 draft pick in 1969, Greene quickly emerged in the league as he was named the NFL s Rookie of the Year and received the fi rst of his 10 Pro Bowl selections. Greene was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1987 and has been recognized with the following honors: All-Time NFL Team (2000) NFL 75th Anniversary Team Super Bowl Silver Anniversary Team 1970s All-Decade Team Greene s Number 75 has not been issued by the Steelers since his retirement following the 1981 season. He will join Ernie Stautner (No. 70) as the only players in franchise history to officially have their number retired. After a 13-year playing career, Greene briefl y worked as a color analyst for CBS Sports before becoming the Steelers defensive line coach from He then went on to coach the defensive line for the Miami Dolphins ( ) and the Arizona Cardinals ( ) before retiring from coaching and moving into the player personnel department with the Steelers. He spent nine years as a special assistant for pro and college personnel for Pittsburgh before retiring in TH ANNIVERSARY OF FIRST TITLE The Steelers will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the team s fi rst championship, Super Bowl IX, with a variety of events and features throughout the 2014 season. Super Bowl IX was Pittsburgh s first title game appearence. The team captured their first NFL Championship with a 16-6 victory over the Minnesota Vikings in Tulane Stadium. RB Franco Harris was named the game s MVP with a rushing performance of 158 yards on 34 carries, establishing a new Super Bowl record. Harris gave the Steelers a 9-0 lead in the third quarter on a nine-yard rush. QB Terry Bradshaw connected with Larry Brown for a four-yard touchdown toss to seal the Steelers victory. Some highlights that will take place in recognition of the team s Super Bowl IX win during the 2014 season include: Super Bowl IX 40th Anniversary Patch: The team will wear a special patch on their uniform against the New Orleans Saints (Nov. 30). November 30 Halftime Ceremony: Players from the Super Bowl IX team will be recognized during a halftime ceremony of the Saints game. Commemorative Game Ticket Logo: The Steelers printed a separate Super Bowl IX 40th Anniversary logo on game tickets for the November 30th game. Alumni Weekend: November will serve as the team s annual Alumni Weekend to celebrate the team s 40th Anniversary victory in Super Bowl IX. Alumni Weekend Dinner Gala: On November 29, Heinz Field will host the Alumni Weekend Dinner Gala with proceeds benefitting the UPMC Sports Medicine Concussion Program and The Cancer Caring Center. Players from the Super Bowl IX Championship team will be introduced at the event and will share their stories from the 1974 season Audio Replays: Replay of audio from the 1974 season and Super Bowl IX, which features Myron Cope and Jack Fleming, will be broadcast on Steelers Nation Radio on Alumni Weekend CAPTAINS ANNOUNCED The Steelers selected four players to serve as team captains for the 2014 season, the team announced through a vote of their teammates for the 2014 season. QB Ben Roethlisberger will serve as the offensive captain, S Troy Polamalu will serve as the defensive captain and S Robert Golden and K Shaun Suisham will serve as the special teams captains. Roethlisberger has been selected as an offensive captain for the sixth time in his career (2008, 09, 11, 12, 13 and 14). This marks Golden s, Polamalu s and Suisham s fi rst selections as captains.

4 FROM LAST WEEK S GAME AT JACKSONVILLE THE STEELERS Pittsburgh earned its second road win of the season with a 17-9 victory at Jacksonville. The Steelers have evened the all-time regular season series versus the Jaguars to Pittsburgh has now won three consecutive games versus Jacksonville. The Steelers are during the regular season since The Steelers have held each of their last three opponents to less than 100 rushing yards the fi rst three game stretch since 2012 (Weeks 14-16). Has recorded a reception of 20 or more yards in nine consecutive games dating back to Dec. 8, 2013 the longest such streak of his NFL career and fi rst by a Steeler since Mike Wallace (12 games Dec. 5, 2010 Oct. 23, 2011). His streak of 21 straight games with at least fi ve receptions for 50 yards is an NFL record. WR LANCE MOORE Caught a pass for 26 yards his longest reception as a Steeler. WR DARRIUS HEYWARD-BEY Made his fi rst catch as a Steeler on the team s fi rst drive of the game. TE HEATH MILLER With his first catch for a 27-yard gain, extended his consecutive games played with a catch streak to 93 dating back to 11/3/2008 vs. Washington (including the postseason). RB Le VEON BELL Led all rushers with 82 yards on 15 carries and added 36 receiving yards on fi ve receptions. Surpassed Joe Geri ( ,248) for the fourth-most rushing yards by a Steeler in their fi rst two seasons in the NFL. CLEVELAND Pittsburgh 30, Cleveland 27 Sept. 7, 2014 Heinz Field (64,598) PITTSBURGH K Shaun Suisham connected on a 41-yard fi eld goal to give the Steelers a victory over the Cleveland Browns in the 2014 season opener at Heinz Field. It marked the ninth time Suisham converted a game-winning fi eld goal in his career and seventh as a Steeler. Suisham booted a 36-yard fi eld goal on the Steelers opening drive of the contest to give the team an early 3-0 lead. Cleveland though would tie the game, 3-3, on its ensuing drive with a 39-yard fi eld goal by K Billy Cundiff. Pittsburgh though would score 24 straight points to take a commanding 27-3 lead at halftime. RB LeGarrette Blount scored on a seven-yard run late in the fi rst quarter. QB Ben Roethlisberger found WR Antonio Brown for a 35-yard touchdown early in the second quarter. Then RB Le Veon Bell scored on a 38-yard run. Suisham capped off the half with a 34-yard fi eld goal as time expired. Like Pittsburgh, Cleveland scored 24 unanswered points to open up the second half. Rookie RB Isaiah Crowell scored on back-to-back drives, rushing into the end zone from three yards out and then 15 yards out on the following drive. Cundiff then connected on a 25-yard fi eld goal. And QB Brian Hoyer threw a nine-yard touchdown to WR Travis Benjamin to tie the game With less than two minutes to go, the Steelers defense forced a threeand-out and the Browns punted to the Pittsburgh 43-yard line. Roethlisberger then led the team on a fi ve-play, 33-yard drive to set up Suisham s game winning kick. It marked the 31st time Roethlisberger led the team on a fourth-quarter game-winning drive in the regular season for his career. He finished the game with 365 passing yards, marking the 29th time he eclipsed the 300-yard mark in the regular season. For the fi fth time since 1991, the Steelers generated 300 or more total net yards in the fi rst half (364) and for the fi rst time since the 2009 season the team recorded 490 or more total net yards in a single game (490). 8 THE TOMLIN FILE Mike Tomlin was named the 16th head coach in Pittsburgh Steelers history on Jan. 22, Hired at the age of 34, Tomlin became only the third head coach hired by the Steelers since Tomlin became the youngest head coach in NFL history to both coach in and win a Super Bowl when he led the Steelers to a victory over the Arizona Cardinals in Super Bowl XLIII. By winning the Super Bowl in only his second season as a head coach, he also became the fastest to win a Super Bowl title in Steelers history. Through seven seasons, Tomlin has accomplished many things that have never been done in the team s storied history. His record (.634) is tied for the best start in franchise history. He has done it so well that he has been selected Defensive Player of the Year once and All-Pro six times by the Associated Press (four fi rst-team and two second-team selections), as well as chosen to eight Pro Bowls, including being selected for his perfomance in Polamalu made an impact on the Steelers defense in Week One against Cleveland - leading the unit with 11 tackles (six solo) and followed up with eight stops (six solo) at Baltimore in Week 2. On Thursday Night Football, Kiesel tallied one tackle. In 2013, Keisel was named a team captain and served as a veteran leader on the defense as he provided steady play along the defensive line. Despite missing four games due to injury, Keisel fi nished third on the defense with 26 quarterback pressures in 2013, while adding 38 tackles (26 solo), good for third among the team s defensive line. In his 12-year NFL career - all with Pittsburgh since joining the team as a seventh round draft choice in Keisel has played in 149 regular season games (110 starts) and recorded 408 tackles (282 solo) and 29.0 sacks, 34 break-ups and one interception. IT S WORILDS WORLD LB Jason Worilds brought down Browns QB Brian Hoyer on Kickoff Weekend against Cleveland, notching his fi rst sack of the 2014 season. In his fi rst three seasons Worilds was limited in his defensive opportunities due to the players he backed up, Pro Bowl linebackers James Harrison and LaMarr Woodley. When Worilds got his opportunity to play extensively on defense in 2013, he took advantage of it.
