36 How To... Offence: PLAY ACTION Play-Action is a type of pass used to trick the defence into thinking the play is a run. Usually it is used if the defence has been stopping the run all game. Here s how it works in three easy steps: 1The play is set up to look like a run. When the ball is snapped, the quarter back 2makes it look as if he is laying the ball off to the running back as he comes past. In fact, the qaurter back pulls back last second, creating the illusion that the running back now has control of the ball. The quarter back now has time to 3get his head up and look for a receiver. Defensive players tricked into thinking it is a running play may start closing down the running back, leaving a receiver in the open to throw an easy pass to

Defence: BLITZ The blitz is a defensive play used to rush the quarter back into a poor throw, or better yet - a sack. 1 Line backers push forward with the tackles, whilst others cover runs. At the snap, safetys and corner backs 2cover the receivers, or move to their zonal areas, whilst everyone else rushes the offensive line. By outnumbering and overpowering, defensive players shall attempt to break through. Players who successfully break 3through the offensive line are now left to rush the quarter back. This should force him into throwing a rushed, unsuccessful pass. If he can not get a throw away it is an easy sack for the defence to make

Excuse me, but Tebow had nothing to do with the Jets debacle or circus. The circus was all about the horrific incompetence of Rex Ryan, Mark Sanchez, and Tony Sparano. The Jets were a disaster before Tebow got there, and they will be a disaster long after he s gone. Regardless of what you think of him, the blame cannot logically be placed on a backup who averages a meager seven snaps, half of which were special team plays. I can t wait for this kid to get another chance and bring Tebow Time back to the NFL. - Steve Clarkson May the Tuck Rule Burn in Hell. Today at the NFL owners meeting the owners voted 29-1 to remove the Tuck Rule. New England and Washington abstained from voting. Yes this is 11 years too late, and yes it is finally passed after Al Davis (RIP) passed but better late than never. Will this erase the pain and misery of the last decade for us Raider Fans? No. But at least we all know now that it was a fumble. Though I am curious to see who voted for keeping the Tuck Rule and why Washington abstained from voting. I get why New England abstained. I might hate his team but Robert Kraft is a classy guy. He did a lot during the lock out and had some sincere heartfelt things to say when Al Davis passed. - Jacob Dunning Joe is the Way to Go. Joe Flacco is a very, very rich man. Last week, the news broke that the Baltimore Ravens quarterback had become the richest quarterback, and player, in NFL history to date when he signed a 6 year, $120.6M contract. When Drew Brees signed his 5 year, $100M deal less than a year ago, I am sure no one thought the person to beat that would be Joe Flacco. With Ray Lewis retirement and uncertainty regarding Ed Reed s future, the Ravens have emphatically declared Flacco as the leader of this team. It s crazy to think he s now the answer when he was considered the question mark at one point in time. A Super Bowl championship and Super Bowl MVP honors will have that effect on an organization. His deal includes $52M in guaranteed money. Peyton Manning and Drew Brees are the only quarterbacks to sign deals close to Flacco s in the past two years. As long as Flacco continues to make the playoffs, he will begin to prove he is worth that money. After signing a 5 year, $96M deal, Peyton Manning made the playoffs but ironically got bounced by Flacco s arm in the form of a bomb to Jacoby Jones. Brees didn t even make the playoffs, widely believed to be the result of a year-long suspension of one of the Saints vital organs head coach Sean Payton, following the Bounty gate scandal. As a Pittsburgh Steelers fan, I want Joe Flacco to fail in that very pursuit. Hopefully for the Ravens, Flacco doesn t make too many mistakes next year. Those mistakes will add confidence to those who already say Flacco is not worth the amount of money he was given. - O Cephus Starks
