1 Volume 5, Issue 3 April/May 2016 Northampton Library Scoop Say It With Books! Have you heard about our Memorial and Honor Book Program? The Free Library of Northampton Township s Memorial/Honor Book Program offers an opportunity to donate a book to the Library s collection in memory or in honor of someone special to you. Memorial Books are thoughtful, tangible ways to celebrate the memory of a loved one. Honor books can mark a special occasion (birthday, new baby, wedding, anniversary), glory in an achievement (graduation, new job), or say I love you to an exceptional person or pet in your life. You may specify a subject area for the donated book, or the library staff will choose a book for an area of the library in need of new materials. Your gift book will bear a bookplate naming the donor and the person being honored. Letters of acknowledgement and appreciation will be sent to both the donor and the family of the honoree. *Donations start at $25.00 & are tax deductible. *Your gift book(s) will go directly onto our shelves to be enjoyed by all. *Each order will be handled personally. *Books will arrive on our shelves 4-6 weeks after receiving a Memorial/Honor book request. *Gift request forms may be found in the library, on our website: and on page 6 of this newsletter. 7 Pa g e 7 Noteworthy News Wonderful Community Asset The following Letter to the Editor was published in The Bucks County Courier Times on Wednesday, February 24th under the title, Wonderful Community Asset. It is always wonderful to be appreciated, and this letter, written by one of our patrons, meant so much to every member of the library staff. We are very pleased to share here. Thank you Ms. Eisele. We will continue to work hard to offer our finest services to you and our community. I am a longtime resident of Churchville. I have lived here since 1978 when the library was located at the Northampton Civic Center (now the Rec Center). Not having a library when I grew up in upstate Pennsylvania, I always have greatly appreciated the convenience of the public library system in the Philadelphia area, and most especially the Northampton Library. As an 88-year-old widow, I count on regular trips to the library, which is an important resource to me for self-education and socialization. I very much look forward to my weekly visits and wish to commend the township supervisors and the Northampton Library staff for the wonderful service they provide to our community. The librarians and all staff bend over backwards to help me when I have questions or need assistance. They are exceptionally nice people. I have macular degeneration in both eyes and can no longer read books or newspapers at home. I even have trouble seeing the television. But the library staff introduced me to a low vision magnifier that increases the font size of type tremendously. It is, to me, miraculous. I can even read the daily local newspapers and the Wall Street Journal with the magnifier. The staff also introduced me to a series of audiobooks called The Great Courses which I have enjoyed tremendously; they are a wonderful addition to our library. The facility is always very clean and welcoming, even the restrooms. They always have new innovations -- it is up to date and if you can't find what you want, our librarians find it at another location, have it delivered here to Northampton then call me when it's in! The lunch area is quite pleasing, and there are private study rooms for tutoring that are both convenient to the students and a nice diversion for me to see the young people studying hard. They sponsor occasional speakers, free to residents! Some people come there to access the Internet on the library's computers, and the librarians help if needed which is very community-minded! There is even a big picture window in the back that provides a pleasant respite -- I've sat there before and seen deer pass by. So commendations to my favorite librarians at the Northampton Library, and to the township supervisors for maintaining it. Camillus Eisele Churchville Food Drive Thank You! Tom Garback sent the Library and the community a very special Thank You for their support of his Eagle Scout Food Drive Project in February. Thank you very much for your help on my Eagle project for the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen. We collected 3000 pounds of food and $1300. The project's total worth came to $9000! You and your library's assistance, persistence, and generosity has blown me away. Our congratulations to Tom, and our thanks to all in the community who donated food and toiletries to the project!
