2015 Tool Grant / Donation Testimonials Skills Canada National Competition, Saskatoon, SK, May Tools used by SCNC competitors were donated to the following schools in the Saskatoon area: Clearwater River Dene School Estevan Comprehensive School LP Miller Comprehensive School Miller Comprehensive Catholic High School North Battleford Comprehensive High School Prairie South School Division Feedback from the schools that benefitted from the donation: L.P. Miller Comprehensive School L.P. Miller Comprehensive High School currently has an enrollment of 450 youth. At some point in their high school careers, students will take our Practical Applied Arts courses, including construction classes, wildlife management classes, welding, machinery, pottery, etc. Students in these courses have and will continue to benefit from having Stanley DeWALT tools on hand. As the L.P. Miller High School offers a variety of classes, the tools are spread throughout the programs and have directly benefited the student population. The construction program has benefited the most from the tool grant as it is focused on woodworking. Students in the construction classes at L.P. Miller High School are involved in the school community, as well as the town of Nipawin. The youth in construction assist with many school programs, including but not limited to: building sets for the Drama Club, building shelves for classrooms, and repairing many items throughout the school. Additionally, the construction class built sheds for the community and such organizations as Minor Ball; they have also built picnic tables for the Nipawin & District Living Forestry Museum, and for the parks and green space in the town of Nipawin. Each year, youth in construction compete in the Skills Canada competition. The Skills Canada competitions gives them a chance to hone in on and develop skills that they will use for the rest of their lives. Stanley DeWALT tools will help further their knowledge when preparing for the Skills Canada competitions, and utilizing their skills when they have graduated and are in the workforce. 1
L.P. Miller Comprehensive High School would like to send a HUGE thank you and appreciation to DeWALT for the tools donated to L.P. Miller High School. They will be put to good use for years to come. Jayson Corrigan 2
Prairie South School Division Receiving equipment from Stanley DeWALT is assisting in Prairie South School s continuous Practical and Applied Arts enhancement. The tools are being used to augment both rural and urban PAA classrooms and enrich the learning opportunities for all of our students. The centralized Equipment Lending library allows the Stanley DeWALT tools to be loaned out on short or long-term basis. Currently in the fall semester, middle year and high school students in Prairie South schools are furthering their construction knowledge with support from the tool grant. Next semester two additional schools, one of which is setting up a construction classroom for the first time, will benefit. Prairie South Schools is a division with 1,263 rural and 1,830 urban grade 7 to 12 students. Through centralized equipment booking, Stanley DeWALT tools are enhancing student s essential skills through Practical and Applied Arts programs in both our rural and urban schools. Thank you again to Stanley DeWALT and Skills Canada! Tana Rowe PAA Enhancement Coordinator 3
Estevan Comprehensive School I d like to take the opportunity to personally say thank you for the tools we received as part of the Tool Grant program awarded to us last school year. The impact of the equipment provided has been huge! Since receiving the grant we ve been able to expand our programming in the building construction area. Recently we ve partnered with the Saskatchewan Games committee and are currently working on completing two garage packages for the upcoming summer games. The addition of multiple cordless tools to our program has also helped with student engagement, as we ve been able to reduce wait time for equipment. The donated tools have also been a welcome addition to the students training to compete in construction and cabinetmaking at the Skills Canada Competition. In addition to the construction area, the tool grant has also contributed equipment to our autobody, mechanics and welding programs. Each of our instructors would like to extend their sincere thanks for your generosity. We have received many comments from students working in our areas. To highlight a few: Wow, these are some of the best drills ever! Preston Audet Grade 10 Student I didn t know they made these saws cordless Carlee Macuish Grade 11 Student Having this many is going to save so much time Kyle Mcmunn Grade 11 Student Are you kidding me! accompanied by gleeful giggling Janaya Whitman Gr. 12 Skills competitor These new biscuit joiners are awesome! Jennifer Krets Gr. 11 Skills competitor These are sweet Ryan Stovin Gr. 12 Skills competitor Once again thank you for your generosity in selecting us as a recipient for the Stanley DeWalt Tool Grant. Sincerely, Charles Lang Construction Teacher 4
North Battleford Comprehensive High School After receiving the Stanley DeWalt tool grant last June, I quickly introduced the tools to my shop. In Grade 7 Practical & Applied Arts we did a unit on Portable Power Tools. We used the cordless drills, impact drivers, and jigsaws to further develop the student's skills with power tools. Having several of each tool allowed us to move at a steady pace through this unit without much time spent waiting to use a tool. In our senior year construction classes, we also utilized the drills and impacts. We were also fortunate to receive biscuit jointers and cordless circular saws. This helped with our units on cabinet making and wall framing. Once again, simply by having additional tools we re able to more efficiently move through our projects in Construction 10, 20, & 30. Overall, I feel that the students are benefitting by having these additional tools. The Stanley DeWalt tool grant has helped us to further develop the skills of our students at all levels. Mike Humenny I have to admit I procrastinated writing this thank you letter and when I started I rewrote it several times. I found it very hard to thank a company for such a huge donation of tools. It made a sea of yellow in our construction shops. The new 20-volt DeWalt cordless tools are amazing! The batteries last forever between charges, and since the kits come with two batteries we have eliminated down time due to dead batteries. With the variety of 20-volt tools available our project choices are almost endless. The shop classes that have benefited from the tools are Junior PAA, Construction, Welding, and Mechanics. These classes are able to provide students with more tool options they can use and in the projects they can work on. This means more students are able to be involved in a project instead of having to wait for tools. In Junior PAA the students are required to build a plywood stool. They need to use drills and impact drivers to assemble their stool. With multiple drills they re able to assemble their stool once they re ready to do so. Prior to this, they had to wait for a student to be done with assembly before they could assemble their stool because there wasn t enough tools. The Tech Teachers at North Battleford Comphensive High School and their students would like to thank Stanley DeWalt for their significant contribution to our school. I can t think of a better way to ensure brand loyalty than to have students work with industry quality tools on projects that give them new skills. James Halushka, Automotive Instructor 5
Clearwater River Dene School We have always had a very supportive Chief and Council on Clearwater River Dene First Nation. They always do their best to provide the school with all the materials needed to provide students with a great learning opportunity. However, being able to tell them that we were fortunate enough to have been granted such a substantial amount of tools, which equated to tremendous savings, was extremely exciting. After winning the tool package, we are now able to rotate out older tools, and still have more tools left over when needed. The students love the tools, and take pride in their work knowing they re working with top quality Stanley DeWalt products. This also opened up opportunities to focus monies toward other PAA programs within our school such as commercial cooking, cosmetology, aesthetics and more. I cannot say how much the tools have been appreciated. We thank you again. They will continue to make an impact for years to come. Sincerely, Brien R. Morgan - PAA Instructor Miller Comprehensive Catholic High School On behalf of Miller High School and the Regina Catholic school division I want to extend a huge expression of gratitude to Skills Canada and to Stanley DeWalt for their generous donation of tools and equipment to our Practical and Applied Arts Programs. The students have benefitted in so many ways by getting to learn and experience working with top notch tools second to none in the industry today. Not only did the students in carpentry benefit from this grant, so did students in our automotive and welding areas as we were able to share and spread the use of the tools to 3 programs. Because of the abundance and generosity of the grant, we were also able to share some of the tools with our feeder schools in our elementary program and created a "portable shop" so students in our elementary schools can have some practical and applied arts experience as well. Once Again, I would like to thank you for choosing Miller to receive this generous grant. Sincerely, Dean Kuz Miller Carpentry 6
