2 PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE SEP AUG 2010 Herman Postdoctoral Fellow in Gender and Economics Department of Economics and Women s Studies, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor I developed and conducted a new undergraduate seminar on Women, Finance, and the Economy, offered in the Winter 2010 semester. I also continued working my research agenda, exploring economic vulnerability among low-income populations, and investigating how gender influences information-sharing and financial decision making within households. AUG AUG 2005 FEB OCT 2004 JUN - AUG 2002 NOV 2001 MAY 2002 Senior Policy Analyst Action for Economic Reforms (AER), Quezon City, Philippines I provided timely analyses and recommendations on economic issues, networked with other groups in promoting AER's goals. I managed and implemented AER s program on Transparency and Information Disclosure, and supervised the mainstreaming of gender perspectives within AER s programs and activities. Field Research Collaborator International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), Bukidnon/Cagayan de Oro/Manila, Philippines I joined the IFPRI team in a field visit to Bukidnon/Cagayan de Oro, from February 23-March 1, I supervised the community survey, which involved fielding a community questionnaire and collecting administrative data in each of the 29 villages in the Bukidnon resurvey. I assisted in data cleaning and creation of analysis files, and conducted research on labor supply under credit constraints using the Bukidnon survey data. Intern NGO Section, Department of Economic and Social Affaires (DESA), United Nations, New York I assisted in the processing of NGO applications for consultative status in ECOSOC, and facilitated communication between the UN NGO Section/DESA and the NGOs. I also coordinated and facilitated meetings, workshops and brainstorming sessions. Consultant Public Expenditure Review Team, The World Bank, Manila, Philippines I provided research support for the Public Expenditure Review Team, particularly on the Macro- Fiscal Overview, Civil Service Reform and Contingent Liabilities sections. I facilitated contacts and exchanges between the World Bank task team and collaborators from the Philippine government, Asian Development Bank and other stakeholders. I also coordinated and facilitated meetings, workshops and brainstorming sessions. MAY SEP 2002 Economist (May Aug 2001, May Sep 2002) International Gender and Trade Network-Asia/Women and Gender Institute, Philippines I conducted research on social policy, trade liberalization and gender issues, and wrote a review of literature on gender and trade in Asia. I conducted research and made contributions for the publications: Social Policy in an Era of Trade Intensification: A Perspective from Asian Women, To Produce and To Care: How Do Women and Men Fare in Securing Well-being and Human Freedoms? and Rulemaking and Governance for Trade Intensification: Asian Women s Views. AUG OCT 2001 Research Associate East Asia Development Network, Global Research Project, Institute for Strategic Development Studies, Philippines I provided research support for the authors of the Philippine Country paper, and drafted the section on Poverty and Social Indicators for the Country paper. PAST RESEARCH PROJECTS SEP 2004 JUL2005 Labor supply responses to income shocks under credit constraints: Evidence from Bukidnon, 2003, (with Deanna Dolor, Jade Redoblado and Jasmin Suministrado). Funded by a research grant from the Poverty and Economic Policy (PEP) Research Network, I led a team of researchers in conducting empirical research on the relationship between off-farm labor supply, credit constraints, and adverse shocks using 2003 IFPRI data from Bukidnon. OCT 2002 FEB 2003 Does violent conflict make chronic poverty more likely? The Mindanao Experience, (with Tina Clemente and Cristina Yunzal).
