2 T E S T D E S I G N OBJECTIVE: To perform a series of load test on Irizar Tank Jacking System in a laboratory control environment in order to verify the systems structural components, hydraulic jack and mechanical locking mechanism in the jacks can withstand its rated load capacity of 12 MT. INSTRUMENTS PRECISION 1. Test will be conducted in C-FER s laboratory facility using C-FER s Ultimate Testing System (UTS). 2. Load cell calibration will be provide by C-FER with accuracy of ± 1% of reading. 3. Linear potentiometers calibration will be provided by C-FER with an accuracy of ± 1% of reading. CONTROL PARAMETERS 1. The overall test configuration layout can be seen in the diagram below. 2. The HLJ structural components should be assemble as per the Irizar Tank Jacking Equipment operation manual. 3. Power pack lifting pressure should not overpass 120 bars. It should stay between bars depending compressive load applied. 4. Safety Lug and Lifting Lug must be manufacture as per the Irizar Tank Jacking Equipment Operating Manual. 5. The hydraulic jack will be placed in the trestle box at its highest possible location in order to simulate worst case scenario. The exact location is specified in the drawings supplied by Irizar for each test. pg. 2

3 TEST # 1: STRUCTURAL AND HYDRAULIC TEST SCOPE: To perform a test in order to verify that Irizar Tank Jacking Equipment Model HLJ 12 can hydraulically withstand its maximum rated load capacity of 12 MT. The test will be performed by applying compressive load from 0-12 MT using a UTS. PROCEDURE: The Irizar Tank Jacking Equipment HLJ 12 will be assembled and set up as per its Operation Manual to simulate actual working conditions. The hydraulic jack will be pressurize using hydraulic oil through the use of the power pack and the jacks pistons left fully extended. The upper jaw locks are set to open and the lower jaw locks are set to close A displacement transducer in the vertical position will be used to record if any slippage occurs in the hydraulic jack when the system is subjected to the tested load. A displacement transducer in the horizontal position will be used to record if any permanent deformation (bucking) occurs in the trestle box when the system is subjected to the tested load. The HLJ 12 will be gradually loaded from 0-12 MT, once the load has reached 12 MT it will be left to settle for 10 minutes and then released. The HLJ 12 will be progressively loaded from 0-12 MT, once the load has reached 12 MT it will be left to settle for 10 minutes and then released. (See Drawing: Structural and Hydraulic Test) RESULTS: C-FER will provide the following data: 1. Compressive Applied Load vs. Time To ensure the overall Irizar Tank Jacking Equipment HLJ 12 structural system can withstand loads from 0-12 MT. 2. Vertical hydraulic jack displacement vs. Compressive To ensure that when the hydraulic jack is pressurize using hydraulic oil and left fully extended it does not slip in time when subjected to loads from 0-12 MT. 3. Horizontal trestle box displacement vs. Time To ensure there is no permanent deformation (bucking) on the trestle box in when subjected to loads from 0-12 MT and 12-0 MT. pg. 3

4 TEST # 2: STRUCTURAL AND MECHANICAL TEST SCOPE: To performed a test in order to verify that Irizar Tank Jacking Equipment HLJ 12 overall structural system as well as the jack mechanical jaw locking system can withstand its maximum rated capacity of 12 MT. The test will be performed by progressively applying compressive load from 0-12 MT using a UTS. The Irizar Tank Jacking Equipment will be loaded simulating actual working conditions. PROCEDURE: The Irizar Tank Jacking Equipment HLJ 12 will be assembled and set up as per its Operation Manual to simulate actual working conditions. The hydraulic jack will be disconnected from its hoses that feed to the hydraulic power pack in order to strictly test only the mechanical jaw locking system. A displacement transducer in the vertical position will be used to record if any slippage occurs in the hydraulic jack when the system is subjected to the tested load. A displacement transducer in the horizontal position will be used to record if any permanent deformation (bucking) occurs in the trestle box when the system is subjected to the tested load. The HLJ 12 will be progressively loaded from 0-12 MT, once the load has reached 12 MT it will be left to settle for 10 minutes and then released. Part (a) Upper Jaw Locks Test (See Drawing: Upper Jaw Locks Test) The upper jaw locks are set to close & the lower jaw locks are set to open. Part (b) Lower Jaw Locks Test (See Drawing: Lower Jaw Locks Test) The upper jaw locks are set to open & the lower jaw locks are set to close RESULTS: C-FER will provide the following data: 1. Compressive Applied Load vs. Time To ensure the overall Irizar Tank Jacking Equipment HLJ 12 structural system can withstand loads from 0-12 MT. 2. Vertical hydraulic jack displacement vs. Compressive To ensure the mechanical jaw locking system in the hydraulic jack does not slip in time when subjected to loads from 0-12 MT. 3. Horizontal trestle box displacement vs. Time To ensure there is no permanent deformation (bucking) on the trestle box in when subjected to loads from 0-12 MT and 12-0 MT. pg. 4

5 C O N C L U S I O N S TEST # 1: STRUCTURAL AND HYDRAULIC TEST 1. When the Irizar Tank Jacking Equipment was subjected under a compressive load of 0-12 MT. It was clear there was no permanent deformation or bucking occurring in the trestle box. The negligible displacement seen in the x-displacement sensor #1 and #2 was due to the small play there is between nut and bolt connections in the assembly. 2. When the jack was hydraulic pressurise and pistons extracted. It was clear there was no major slippage of the jack when subjected under a compressive load of 0-12 MT. The negligible slippage seen in the y-displacement sensor was due to the springs in the lower grip jaws slowly contracting as the lower jaw locks settled into the trestle box rail. 3. When the compressive load of 12 MT was left to sit for 12 min it was seen there was no slippage since the jaw locks had completely settled. TEST # 2: STRUCTURAL AND MECHANICAL TEST 1. When the Irizar Tank Jacking Equipment was subjected under a compressive load of 0-12 MT. It was clear there was no permanent deformation or bucking occurring in the trestle box. The negligible displacement seen in the x-displacement sensor #1 and #2 was due to the small play there is between nut and bolt connections in the assembly. 2. When the system upper and lower jaw lock mechanical system where strictly tested separately. It was clear there was no major slippage of the jack when subjected under a compressive load of 0-12 MT. The negligible slippage seen in the y-displacement sensor was due to the springs in the grip jaws slowly contracting as the jaw locks settled into the trestle box rail. 3. When the compressive load of 12 MT was left to sit for 12 min it was seen there was no slippage since the jaw locks had completely settled. This same results were seen in both part (a) and part (b) of the test. pg. 5
