2 Climbers preparing for a great ascent of a major peak stop at base camp on the way up and spend time acclimating to the conditions and altitude prior to moving on. While at base camp, they study climbing routes, dangers in the climb and plan their approach. They prepare ropes and ladders and familiarize themselves with their gear. They hear stories of previous attempts and what was learned in both successes and failures. Others who know the mountain will help them assess their personal strengths and weaknesses and give them important training and advice on how best to work as a team, advising climbers on which route may give them the greatest opportunity for a successful summit.

3 History of Base Camp at Sky Ranch Horn Creek Sky Ranch Horn Creek is a non-denominational Christian camp designed to glorify God by providing a place where ministries and families have experienced renewal and the beauty of His creation. It sits at 9,000 feet at the base of Horn Peak and rises more than two and a half miles high. Visit for more information. Base Camp is a bridge-year program for men and women ages 18 to 22 specifically created to equip each student with the biblical foundations, spiritual disciplines and vocational training necessary for life s challenging ascent. Future Base Campers The most important thing in life is a proper understanding of God and your relationship with Him. Base Camp is an extraordinary opportunity for you to examine your relationship with God, while being equipped with the gear necessary for life and godliness. It s a unique experience that will give you the opportunity to study God s Word and grow in Christ, while living in an enriching, Christian community. It s an ascent you will never forget. Parents of Future Base Campers One of the most important aspects of this program is the support we receive from the parents of those in the Base Camp program. We understand the high calling and responsibility we have toward our students, and we desire for the parents to be in full support of their son or daughter s decision to attend Base Camp. We consider Base Camp to be an eternal investment in the lives of our students not a year of delay and stagnation, but a year that has the potential for a great amount of spiritual growth and direction. Whether a student goes on to pursue college, a specific vocation or is interested in full-time ministry, our desire is that this program will help direct them towards a better understanding and deeper relationship with God.

4 The 5 Foundations of Base Camp As a learning internship program, Base Camp establishes five spiritual foundations in the context of a close-knit community to encourage individual growth and development of a Christ-centered life. Biblical Studies Students begin the program by building a solid foundation based on Scripture. They will get a broad survey of the entire Bible, combined with an in-depth study of one of the Synoptic Gospels. For the Old and New Testament survey courses, Base Camp uses the online lecture series Silo, through Eternity Bible College. These online courses have been incorporated in order to help develop the student s own system of beliefs through the entire lens of Scripture and to lay a doctrinal foundation based on study of the entire Bible. This section explores the major themes, events and people that are brought to life in the Bible. The courses provide students with a panorama of biblical truth and a starting point to help them understand the content of the Bible. This section of Base Camp will encourage, inspire and assist students to master the Scriptures. Systematic Theology Systematic Theology is the study of what the entire Bible says regarding any specific topic. The theological foundations covered within this section help to develop and reinforce the various themes and doctrines that students are exposed to within the Biblical Studies section. This foundation spans the entire program and focuses on several major theological foundations of Christianity, including: the Bible, the Church, God, Christ, the Holy Spirit, Man and Sin, Salvation, Angels and Demons, Last Things, Missions and Apologetics.

5 Spiritual Disciplines Spiritual Disciplines connects the educational with the practical, day-to-day Christian life. It takes what is being learned within the first two foundations and demonstrates how biblical knowledge is indispensible for personal growth and sanctification. This section utilizes a variety of projects, selected readings and biographical studies to expose students to the transformative work that takes place through the pursuit of spiritual disciplines. Vocational Life Training Base Camp directly works to develop individuals in service and leadership through an array of job-specific experiences used to train and expand their skills and knowledge. Throughout the year, students receive training in specific areas of camp, including facilities, maintenance, cooking, hospitality, administration, recreation and programming. These areas of training provide the necessary skills, tools and resources that are needed within and beyond Base Camp. Exploration & Events Base Camp would not be complete without some amazing opportunities for fun and adventure. Situated in the Colorado Rocky Mountains, Base Camp maximizes its awesome surroundings as part of the program. We take what we learn in the classroom and reinforce it with some exceptional trips and adventures. Each event and exploration trip is specifically designed to emphasize the goals and objectives of the program, while reinforcing its learning foundations. Base Camp incorporates several trips, including a national conference, city ministry trips and ministry exploration trips.

6 Dates The Base Camp foundations section begins August 21, 2016 and ends May 14, Upon completion of the Base Camp Foundations section, Base Campers will have the opportunity to apply to be a part of the Sky Ranch Horn Creek Summer Ministry Team, in order to practically utilize what they have learned throughout the program. Base Camp Applications are due by July 31. To apply, go to Upon receipt of an acceptance letter, all final paperwork must be submitted prior to the start of the program. Base Camp program enrollment is now open. Cost Base Camp is made as affordable as possible due to the on-site vocational work each student is responsible for during their time in the program. The cost of Base Camp covers the associated fees of the program, including all associated program costs online courses, assigned books, trips and events and a monthly stipend. Typically students involved in the program work approximately three days per week in a variety of areas, which offsets the cost of food, a monthly stipend and all costs associated with lodging. A typical week in Base Camp consists of: Two days per week dedicated to classroom and study time Three days vocational training Two days off Visit for current Base Camp pricing.
