Continue on to Bahrain Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and historically one of Bahrain's most important sites. The fort itself was built in the 14th century by the Portuguese but excavations at the site reveal six other distinct eras of the place. A visit to Bahrain is not complete without a visit to Manama Souq where we will break for a traditional lunch. 2 BAHRAIN NATIONAL MUSEUM & CULINARY EXPERIENCE - BAH04 6:30 This excursion combines culture and history with traditional Bahraini cuisine. A 30-minute coach drive will take you to your first destination, Bahrain National Museum built in 1988 and offering a comprehensive view of Bahrain through the ages. Arguably the most interesting of the exhibits in nine halls is a reconstructed ancient burial mound dating to around 2800 BC. The mound was actually plucked from the desert and reassembled in the museum. Other fascinating exhibits depict life in the Dilmun era, 19-20th century pearl-diving scenes as well as community life of Bahrain. Next market to visit will be the fruits & vegetable wholesale market, established in Bahrain is an agriculturally-gifted area in the Gulf, with very good and richly-producing gardens - a rarity in this region. We will then move to old city of Muharraq to discover its low-rise buildings, narrow streets and tiny alleyways. 10 SUNSET DHOW CRUISE AND SHOPPING - DXB05 5 This tour will take you cruising in an engine-powered dhow, a traditional Arab vessel made of wood. These boats are primarily found in the coastal waters of the Arabian Peninsula. Up to the 1960s, dhows made commercial journeys between the Persian Gulf and East Africa. The term 'dhow' is also applied to small, traditionally constructed vessels used for trade in the Red Sea and the Persian Gulf area, and the Indian Ocean from Madagascar to the Gulf of Bengal.
