CCI Penalises Jet Airways, IndiGo and SpiceJet for Cartelisation The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has imposed penalties on three airlines. These penalties amount to Rs 258 crore. The penalized airlines are Jet Airways, IndiGo and SpiceJet penalties. Three leading airways were penalised for cartelisation in fixing cargo fuel surcharge. Based on the complaint filed by Express Industry Council of India (EICI), airlines were issued a cease and desist order by CCI. The act of collusion which undermined the economic development of the country is against the anti-competitive agreements in the air cargo industry. Shankaran Nair Passed Away Shankaran Nair was a Former Director of country s external intelligence agency Research and Analysis Wing (RAW). At the age of 94, Shankaran Nair passed away in Bengaluru, Karnataka. 1 / 7

2 He was lauded for his successful completion of the covert operations. These operations helped the liberation of then-east Pakistan into a new country Bangladesh in In 1977, he had succeeded R N Kao as the Director of RAW. He was the 2nd person to head RAW. In 1980, he played a crucial role restructuring RAW, after Indira Gandhi returned to power. Ashok Singhal Passes Away Ashok Singhal was a Senior Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader and a RSS member. At the age of 90, he passed away in Gurgaon, due to respiratory problems. He was a prominent leader of temple movement in Ayodhya i.e. Ramjanmabhoomi movement. In 1984, he organised the first VHP Dharma Sansad at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi. Dharma Sansad gave birth to Ramjanmabhoomi temple movement. Foundation Stone Laid for Mega Food Park in Telengana Union Minister of Food Processing Industries laid the foundation stone for the first Mega Food Park in Telangana. Mega food park will provide a mechanism to link agricultural production to the market. It will do so by bringing together farmers, processors and retailers. The initiative will ensure maximum value addition, minimum wastages, increase in farmers income and creation of employment opportunities particularly in rural sector. The Scheme will function on a cluster approach based on a hub and spokes model. NFSA Implemented in 14 Districts of Odisha National Food Security Act (NFSA), 2013 was implemented by Odisha Government in 14 of the 30 districts. 2 / 7

Ethics committee of FIFA banned him over corruption allegations for 10 Years. Thapa was penalised with 19,850 USD for misconduct in his 19-year tenure as President of ANFA. He was accused of solicitation and acceptance of cash payments from another football official, for personal and family gains. 5 New Long-Haired Species of Wasps Discovered in India Indian Researchers have discovered 5 new long-haired species of wasps from different parts of the country. National Bureau of Agricultural Insect Resources of India discovered these wasps. 3 / 7

4 The new species were named Adikeshavus which in Sanskrit means first one to have long hairs. Their tiny wings allow them to slip through the silk strands of the egg sacs. They have a uniform length of 1 to 2mm and cluster into groups. G-20 Summit at a Glance G-20 leaders released an official communication. This expresses their intent to jointly fight against terrorism. Leaders of the summit have reaffirmed their earlier goal of achieving additional 2% GDP growth by Base Erosion and Profit System project will be launched to address the problem of transferring profits to tax havens. Leaders reiterated their commitment to limit global temperature increase to 2 degrees Celsius above current levels. They have requested WTO to fully implement the Bali Package. Tianhe-2 Emerges Most Powerful Supercomputer China s Tianhe-2 supercomputer has emerged as the world s most powerful supercomputer system. This is the sixth consecutive time that Tianhe-2 has won this honour. The declaration was made in 46th edition of Top 500 list of supercomputers. Tianhe-2 is capable of performing calculations at a processing speed of petaflops per second. Titan, supercomputer of the US Department of Energy is in 2nd place. Supercomputer Sequoia of Tech giant IBM is in 3rd position. Based on the Linpack benchmark, Top500 list is compiled on the basis of the performance of supercomputers by experts from the US and Germany. 4 / 7

5 EKS Kosmos-2510 Successfully Launched into Space EKS Kosmos-2510, Russia s newest defence satellite was launched into its dedicated orbit on space. Currently, half of the urban households in the target area do not have water supply and sewerage connections.
