The National JTA 2016 Study - Purpose - To create a thorough, accurate, and unbiased definition of the healthcare interpreter profession as it exists today. It is a snapshot. The results of the JTA 2016 Study are the foundation of the examination content.
Thorough: The field must understand and document the depth and breadth of the profession everything that people are doing under the umbrella of the healthcare interpreter profession, including what, where, and how they are providing these services.
Accurate: Transparency is a crucial professional value necessary to objectively describe the profession as it currently is and to keep the field of interpreting on target. The National JTA 2016 provides the reality check to see what the profession is currently doing.
Today: The JTA 2016 describes the profession as it exists today without inserting hopes or desires for what the profession should or could be.
Unbiased: The definition of what the field does must come from the profession itself - not just an expert panel, a focus group, or industry leaders but the entire profession. The JTA follows a rigorous and structured process to obtain an unbiased snapshot of the current profession.
JTA Study Process 1. Work with appropriate expertise for validity and reliability such as top-notch national psychometricians 2. Recruit SMEs (JTA Panel) from across the industry to design the JTA 2016 survey 3. Conduct the national JTA 2016 survey of the profession 4. Analyze and process input from the field and create national report 5. Publish the JTA 2016 survey results 6. Based on the JTA 2016 results, CCHI s certification exams content will reflect the outcome of the JTA study
Composition of the JTA Panel The panel of 15 SMEs was composed of industry actual practitioners who represent a cross-section of the healthcare interpreting field. All JTA 2016 panel members were active interpreters. The JTA panel met on February 2016.
