1 Imperial Lead Provider has developed a Clinical Leadership programme available to all trainees in specialties for whom we are the Lead Provider. The programme is composed of 3 tiers allowing you to follow a course of study that suits your stage of training. Our aim is for all trainees to complete tiers 1 and 2 during their training in order to prepare you for life as a senior doctor in the future... Tier 1 Target Audience: Core and ST3 trainees e-learning supported by workshops and local faculty, aimed at completing the NHS Clinical Management framework Tier 2 Target Audience: ST3-5 trainees e-learning supported by workshops and local faculty, aimed at completing the NHS Clinical Management framework, plus a management course Tier 3 Target Audience: ST5+ trainees For those with a real enthusiasm for clinical management and leadership and aims to provide support, experience of senior clinical leadership and mentoring during a period of focussed study for an M.Sc. or MBA in clinical management. 2 Tier 1 Target Audience: Core and ST3 trainees e-learning supported by workshops and local faculty, aimed at completing the NHS Clinical Management framework Study time: e-learning: 8-10 hours Workshops: 2 half days QIP: 10 hours Aims: Develop an understanding of NHS structure and function; understand the principles of quality improvement; Carry out a QIP in order to learn about o o o improving patient care managing change embedding change in the long term How an effective team improves quality of care Course requirements: Complete 24 modules on e-learning for health participate in 2 half day workshops carry out and present a local QIP provide a 1 page report on the QIP at workshop 2

3 Tier 2 Target Audience: ST3-5 trainees e-learning supported by workshops and local faculty, aimed at completing the NHS Clinical Management framework, plus a management course Study time: e-learning: Workshops: Management course: 20 hours 2 half days varies Aims: Consolidate knowledge of the structures and functions of the NHS; Gain insight into the political agendas within the NHS; Understand the principles of measuring quality in a healthcare system Develop a personal management style including: How to get the best from a multi-disciplinary team Working with colleagues in difficult circumstances Changing systems and dogma Carry out a QIP or management project in order to learn about improving patient care managing change embedding change in the long term Course requirements: Complete the Edward Jenner NHS leadership course Participate in 2 half day workshops Carry out and present a QIP with an NHS manager or leader Complete either a Paired learning course or a formal management course agreed with the Lead Provider faculty Provide a report on how you have developed and embedded change in the NHS

4 Tier 3 Target Audience: ST5+ trainees For those with a real enthusiasm for clinical management and leadership and aims to provide support, experience of senior clinical leadership and mentoring during a period of focussed study for an M.Sc. or MBA in clinical management. The final part of the leadership programme is designed to support those who have decided to undertake a period of study towards a further qualification in clinical leadership, management or patient safety, such as an M.Sc. or MBA. Unfortunately we are not able to offer funding for such courses but will support trainees with: Formal support of peer learning networks Arrangement of placements with senior clinical and education leaders in the region in order to gain experience Mentorship from faculty members and clinical leaders to support your learning and development It is expected that trainees will be in their senior years (ST5+). We will support applications for OOP if necessary and help provide the resources needed to complete project work and other aspects of your degree program.
