4 ONLINE COURSES SAFEGUARDING The College has developed a suite of e-learning courses to support paediatricians and other healthcare workers through this complicated and sensitive area. These courses are run in collaboration with our various learning partners. Introduction to Safeguarding Children and Young People ICD Level 1* A highly engaging and interactive session of about 30 minutes for non-clinical staff working in health care settings. Recognition, Response and Record ICD Level 2* Consisting of three 30 minute e-learning sessions and developed for all clinical staff who have some degree of contact with children and young people and/or parents/carers. The sessions will teach you how to manage concerns that a child is being maltreated. Child Protection in Practice (CPiP) ICD Level 3* Specifically designed for paediatric trainees ST4-ST7 or equivalent who have completed the ALSG Child Protection Recognition and Response course. 5 ONLINE COURSES SAFEGUARDING Maintaining and Updating Competencies ICD Level 3* Covers a wide range of topics including sudden or unexpected death in childhood, parental risk factors, unexplained injuries, disability and neglect, fabricated and induced illness and adolescents presenting with intoxication. Paediatrics Today: Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) ICD Level 3* A 60 minute e-learning resource that will enable learners to: describe the different types of FGM as defined by WHO and UNICEF; demonstrate a greater understanding of the prevalence of FGM both nationally and internationally; gain an awareness of the varying factors influencing the practice of FGM; and appreciate the complexities involved in the prevention, detection and management of FGM. Safeguarding children: Levels 4 and 5 ICD Level 4&5* This e-learning course forms part of a blended learning package for named and designated paediatricians for child protection. 6 Free online education to help adults to identify and understand children and young people with mental health issues. MindEd provides practical e-learning sessions when and wherever they re needed, quickly building knowledge and confidence to identify an issue, act swiftly and improve outcomes for children and young people. The bite-sized chunks of e-learning are designed to give you the confidence to identify a mental health issue and act swiftly, improving outcomes for the child or young person involved. 7 ONLINE COURSES Bacterial Meningitis and Meningococcal Septicaemia in Children and Young People This course is for healthcare professionals who want to improve their ability to assess and manage children who present with possible bacterial meningitis and/or meningococcal septicaemia. Completing the course will improve your ability to recognise these diseases, raise your awareness about relevant new NICE guidance and improve your confidence in disease management for neonates through to adolescents. Vitamin D Deficiency This online course aims to enable healthcare professionals to: Explain the biology and metabolism of vitamin D Understand the pathophysiology and recognise the clinical features of vitamin D deficiency Identify children at risk of vitamin D deficiency Choose appropriate investigations and know when they are indicated Describe the management of vitamin D deficiency and be aware of current guidelines for its prevention Access all our certified online courses via rcpch.learningpool.com

8 CHANGING THE LANDSCAPE OF DISABILITY A free e-learning tool for the UK workforce This programme aims to tackle the inequalities that disabled children and young people face in their lives on a daily basis. Disability Matters is freely available on the internet and is made up of 57 sessions of e-learning and support packages for face to face group learning, co-produced by disabled children, young people, parent carers and other experts. It is full of real stories and top tips from disabled children, young people and their families for all who work or volunteer with them. The Disability Matters Programme is led by the Royal College of Peadiatrics and Child Health on behalf of a consortium of disability charities and medical bodies.

9 ONLINE COURSES Paediatric Prescribing Principles Aimed at all paediatricians, from trainee to consultant, and any health professionals with a role in prescribing drugs for children and young people. 12 HeadSmart aims to enhance the awareness of symptoms of brain tumours in children and young people. Its goal is to reduce significantly the length of time it takes to diagnose brain tumours, thus saving lives and reducing disabilities in children. 15 COMING SOON! ONLINE COURSES Spotting the Sick Child Update Project Spotting the Sick Child (SSC) is a successful online educational resource that is used by healthcare professionals worldwide. This project will deliver an updated SSC online resource to support healthcare professionals to improve their skills at assessing the top seven commonest acute problems for which children see their family doctor, or go to an urgent care clinic or emergency department. The project is managed by the RCPCH and funded by Health Education England (HEE) in collaboration with the original SSC group. 16 FACE TO FACE COURSES CLINICAL A Z Evening of Evidence series A programme of blended learning courses; each course consists of a short evening lecture and specifically selected e-learning modules designed for a multiprofessional audience. Some of our most recent and popular sessions have covered: Adolescent gynaecology: a 21st century approach iteen: the paediatricians guide to common presentations during adolescence Mental health in the classroom Who should attend? Courses in this series focus on specific paediatric conditions and their management and treatment such as: Inflammatory Bowel Disease Motor dysfunction in children with Neurodisability Paediatric Emergency Medicine Each course draws on complex real life cases, the latest therapeutic interventions, practical techniques and the clinical decision-making process. 19 FACE TO FACE COURSES SAFEGUARDING Child Protection Recognition and Response Comprising a flexible online component and a one-day face to face course, this programme enables participants to: Recognise signs and symptoms of the possible range of abuse and/or neglect in children of all ages Respond competently and confidently, knowing what knowledge and skills are needed to recognise child abuse Know how to make a referral to the relevant agency or professional group and to find out the outcome of a referral Understand the importance of follow-up to the health and developmental outcome for the child Safeguarding This training is delivered in collaboration with the Advanced Life Support Group and the NSPCC Who should attend?
