2 Kindergarten Teacher Qualifications Schools should hire a Kindergarten supervisor who must be graduate of: Bachelor of Early Childhood Education, Bachelor of Science in Preschool Education, Bachelor of Science in Family Life and Child Development,

3 Kindergarten Teacher Qualifications Bachelor in Elementary Education with specialization in Preschool or Early Childhood Education (ECE), Bachelor in Elementary Education major in Teaching Early Grades (TEG).

4 Kindergarten Teacher Qualifications Or the kindergarten supervisor is a graduate of an equivalent degree such as: Bachelor in Elementary Education, major in Special Education with 18 units of Early Childhood Education (ECE),

5 Kindergarten Teacher Qualifications Bachelor of Secondary Education with Diploma in Early Childhood Education including Practice Teaching in Kindergarten Education, or Graduate of related courses with at least 18 units in Early Childhood Education (ECE)/Child Development including that in Daycare Centers

6 Kindergarten Teacher Qualifications Eligibility: LET/PBET Passer He/she must not be more than 45 years old. Any excess regular supervisor/s in any of the grade levels may be assigned as full time kindergarten supervisor and should be provided training (Rule VII of Section16.3 of the IRR and as part of the transitory provision).

7 Kindergarten Teacher Qualifications In cases when there are limited eligible supervisor with ECE units, the following measures may be adopted for those eligible without ECE units:

8 Kindergarten Teacher Qualifications a. Upon appointment, the supervisor maybe required to take ECE units gradually; i. Nine (9) ECE units may be earned at the end of the School Year l; ii. 8 units, Year 2; iii. and 21 units, Year 3; and;

9 Kindergarten Teacher Qualifications b. In an instance that there is a shortage of supervisors handling classes in any grade level, the school head may assign the kindergarten supervisor to handle any grade level provided that it will not effect the prescribed contact time for kindergarten classes (Section 3 entitled Contingency Measures, D.O. 81s. 2012)

10 Elementary & High School Teacher Qualifications According to Section 8 of the Enhanced Basic Education Law, schools can hire supervisors who are graduates of science, mathematics, statistics, engineering, music and other degree courses to teach in the elementary and secondary courses provided that they pass the LET within five years upon hiring date or if they are willing to teach as a part-timer, they will not be required to take the LET anymore.

11 Elementary & High School Teacher Qualifications Graduates of foundations known for their expertise in education sector such as Meralco Foundation (example, mine.) and have satisfactorily completed the requirements of such organizations.

12 Elementary & High School Teacher Qualifications Graduates of tech-vocational courses can be hired as supervisors in the specialized subjects in the secondary course provided that these teachers have TESDA certifications and appropriate in-service training provided by DepEd or Higher Education Institutions(HEI).

13 Elementary & High School Teacher Qualifications Faculty of Higher Education Institutions can be hired as supervisors or Mini-class teachers for general education courses or specialized courses in the secondary education provided that they possess the relevant Bachelor s degree and must have satisfactorily served as a full-time faculty of a Higher Education Institution (HEI).

14 Elementary & High School Teacher Qualifications Schools may hire practitioners as part-time teachers, with expertise in the specialized learning areas offered by the Basic Education Curriculum, to teach in the secondary level. (We will have to wait for the IRR and other department orders which will specify the qualifications of the practitioners to be hired.)

15 implications From now until 2017, we can hire supervisors/teachers who have bachelors degrees and are not licensed. After 2017, teachers who will not pass the LET can stay as part-timers. But if they are committed to stay as full-time teachers, they have to pass the LET.

16 implications Members of the church who are graduates of a four-year course, faculty of colleges and universities, or TESDA certified, and other professionals can be tapped as supervisors/teachers on a full time or parttime basis.

17 But remember These are just transitory provisions. The Basic Education Act of 2013 only eased the restrictions imposed by the Professional Teachers in the Professionalization Act of 1994 on who will be able to teach in our country.

18 But remember But after five years, that might change again. So, let us encourage the members of the church and alumni of the school who are graduates to become part of the education ministry or the present school staff to upgrade themselves.
