A primary goal is to create a culturally responsive, respectful and technologically sound collaborative interprofessional practice curriculum to prepare nurses, physician assistants and medical students to deliver high quality, efficient, team-based care in a dynamically evolving environment. January, 2013-present: Project Faculty HRSA Physician Assistant Training in Primary Care: The key objectives are to recruit, admit, support and retain graduate physician assistant students interested in primary care medicine.. The ideal candidates come from underrepresented minority (URM) groups, disadvantaged backgrounds, urban or rural medically underserved communities (MUAs), and veterans. April-July 2015: CO Primary Investigator: Health Careers Opportunity Program (HCOP), which is administered by the Bureau of Health Workforce in the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The program s goal is to provide individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds an opportunity to develop the skills needed to successfully compete for, enter, and graduate from health or allied health professions schools. (Unfunded) Curriculum Development: August, 2015-present: Team Based Learning (TBL) interprofessional education: Integrated 4 complete TBL sessions on the Interprofessional Education Collaboration s 4 core competencies of effective teams for students (Physician Assistant, Nursing, Medicine) at the clinical service learning site (a day shelter for people who are homeless) where students in interprofessional teams were precepted while running a health and wellness center. May, 2015-present: Summer semester traditional lecture based curriculum changed to align with the University of South Alabama s Quality Enhancement Plan s instructional method for promoting critical and higher order thinking utilizing a Team Based Learning curriculum for Clinical Medicine I, PA 510. August, 2013-present: implementation of a Task Review week to review the semester modules and go over weaker class performance areas. Task review week is also used to review/practice clinical note writing, health maintenance, applying scientific concepts, formulating diagnoses, and utilizing correct therapeutics. May, 2013-present: Incorporate TBL instructional modules in curriculum of the Clinical Medicine Course Series II-IV (PA 520, PA 530, PA 540) August, 2013-present: Expanded on the implementation of simulation labs into clinical medicine curriculum with updated student learning objectives
