1 How to add a program practice or tool to the website Anyone can add a program, practice or tool to the Nest What works for kids database through a number of simple steps, which are detailed in the User Guide. Final publication on the website is subject to an assessment and review process. No record is published, or accessible to others via the website, until it has been through the assessment and rating process and consent for publication is given by the program owner. Adding a record 1. Join the website and accept the terms and conditions to add any information 2. Go to MANAGE PROGRAMS and you will be given a screen that asks you to add a program 3. Clicking on ADD A PROGRAM will bring up an online form for you to complete. The form does not have to be completed in one session and has 12 pages (Tabs on the left hand side of the screen). 4. Comments can be entered at the bottom of the screen with any queries to be followed up by ARACY staff. 5. Once the form is completed click on SAVE and then SUBMIT FOR REVIEW, remember you can save this as a draft at any stage and come back to it. 6. It is essential that the person completing the record acknowledges that they have the authority to do so in Question 1.4. The process allows for updates and changes to program information / rating over time as new information and evidence emerges; or in response to changes in program name / status, such as changes in program owner / program focus. An audit trail is kept by the system of all changes to records by whom and when. Below is a detailed description of the format, fields and assessment process that will help you to fill out the record.
2 Below is a screenshot of tab 03 Focus & Aims to give an example and show some basic features. 3 Record Design Overview Throughout the record you will be asked questions that refer to both the target cohort and those who will be providing the program, the illustration below shows this distinction. These%Tabs%refer%to%the% target%cohort,%the% ul9mate%recipients%of% the%program.% % These%Tabs%refer%to%who% will%be%providing/ delivering%the%program% to%the%the%target%cohort% % Tabs 03 FOCUS & AIMS, CLIENTS and 07 DELIVERY refer to the information about the target cohort, that is those who receive the program. Information under tabs 04 MODEL and 06 TRAINING REQUIREMENTS refers to those who deliver the program to the target cohort. Page 3
4 Description of Key Fields Below we have listed some key fields that we feel may need further clarification to assist you in completing the record. TAB QUESTION 01 INFORMATION 1.1. WHO DELIVERS THE PROGRAM/PRACTICE/TOOL? 6.2. MINIMUM DELIVERY AGENT QUALIFICATIONS These questions are based on Australian standards, if possible please try and map your information to the equivalent description. 07 DELIVERY 7.1. PLEASE DESCRIBE WHAT IS DELIVERED TO THE TARGET COHORT? 7.2. WHAT IS THE RECOMMENDED INTENSITY FOR EACH OF THE TARGET COHORTS? 7.3. OVER WHAT PERIOD DOES THE TARGET COHORT PARTICIPATE? Please fill out these questions for each of the target cohorts. E.g. if your program is aimed at children and parents please show what is delivered, in what intensity and for what period for both children and parents (both target cohorts). 10 COST & BENEFITS SETUP COSTS ONGOING COSTS Indicative costing is fine, you may put the website address to the costing on your program if you would like (at this stage you will not be able to insert a hyperlink). 5 TAB 11 EVIDENCE & OUTCOMES QUESTION NEST PRIORITY DIRECTIONS NEST OUTCOMES The Australian Research Alliance for Children and Youth (ARACY) has developed The Nest as a framework to encourage collaborative action to improve the health and wellbeing of all Australian children and young people. The record includes fields that reflect The Nest priority directions and outcomes. Priority directions Outcomes Improving early childhood learning and development Young people are loved and valued Improving the educational performance of young Australians Improving the physical health of young Australians Improving the social and emotional wellbeing of young Australians Promoting the participation of young Australians Reducing disadvantage arising from income disparity. Young people are healthy Young people are safe and supported Young people are learning and developing Young people are contributing Young people are achieving material basics. Young people have a positive sense of culture and identity Please map these against your Program/Practice/Tool as you feel is appropriate. If you want to learn more about the nest go to Page 5
6 Assessment and rating Once the record has been submitted for review it is assigned to expert reviewers for assessment against an Evidence Standard. The record is then assigned a rating which will be added to the record. Once this has been completed it will be published on the website. The program author on the website will be kept advised as to the progress of the assessment, any issues that arise in the assessment and the outcome of the assessment. ARACY is currently developing the Evidence Standard with the assistance of an expert reference group. This will be finalised during 2015 and more information will be provided as it becomes available. The Evidence Standard will involve assessment of a submitted program, practice or tool against five main dimensions (or main criteria). The first four are adapted from the UKbased Social Research Unit (SRU) What Works standards and a new fifth dimension has been added, as follows: 1. Evaluation quality 2. Intervention impacts 3. Intervention specificity 4. Implementation readiness 5. Context relevance The context relevance dimension aims to incorporate assessment of the relevance of an intervention to the Australian context, including cultural / population considerations. Page 6
