3 IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ALL RUNNERS Your running number is enclosed. This MUST be securely attached (at chest height) to the FRONT of your running garment by means of safety pins (not supplied) and the number must be clearly displayed and visible throughout your race. For runners in the 10 Mile Race a matching timing tag is also enclosed. This must be securely attached to one running shoe, according to the instructions on the envelope. Numbers and tags are issued to named runners so, for safety reasons, and accuracy of results, they must not be used by any other runner. 10 Mile runners note: If you have No Tag You will have No Time, and if your running number is not clearly visible your position may not get recorded If you have any medical condition that may require specialist treatment in the event of an emergency, please write the details on the rear of your Race Number. The organisers do not accept responsibility for any injuries, but St. John Ambulance and a medical team will be in attendance. Toilet, shower and changing facilities will be available on the Recreation Ground, near the start & finish area. There will be a supervised van for kit storage, but please note that all property is stored at the owner s risk. There will be one Start Line for both races, south-west of the Community Centre. 10 Mile runners will be marshalled at the Start Line by estimated finish time. Fun Runners will be marshalled further back and brought forward to the Start Line after the 10 Mile Race has started. The 10 Mile Race will start promptly at 11:00 am. The Fun Run will be started as soon as the last 10 Mile runners have cleared the first part of the route this will be 10 to 15 minutes later. From the Start Line both Races complete a circuit of the Recreation Ground on grass and footpaths then follow public highways before returning to the Finish on the Recreation Ground. The Finish Line will be marked by a banner and time clock. When over the Finish Line runners must KEEP IN ORDER for results to be recorded, and PROCEED QUICKLY through the funnel to collect commemorative medals and drinks. Before leaving the ground to travel home 10 Mile tags should be removed and placed in the bins provided. In the Fun Run there are no formal restrictions, but 10 Mile competitors should note that all dogs and wheeled carriages (other than wheelchairs) are banned from the race, and that runners must NOT be accompanied or followed by others on cycles. The organisers cannot warrant that the course is suitable or safe for wheelchair users. SAFETY WARNING: These Races are held on roads which are open to normal traffic. For Safety Reasons, mp3 players and earphones MUST NOT BE WORN whilst running, unless for medical reasons and pre-notified to race organisers. Non-compliance will result in disqualification, and in severe cases prosecution by the Police.

4 If possible preliminary results for the 10 mile race will be displayed on the HE Sports LED screen located near the finish area. Presentation of individual Winners Trophies for the Fun Run will be held at approximately 12:15pm. Presentations for the 10 Mile will follow at approximately 1.00pm. Final results for the 10 Mile Race will be published on the races website on the HE Sports website, and in the Chelmsford local press. At all times runners must follow any instructions given by the Race Marshals and Essex Police. For their own safety, and that of others, runners must use the footpaths where possible; keep into the left-hand kerb without cutting off bends; observe any Keep Left or Keep Right race signs; and heed the Highway Code. Runners are asked to take particular care on the Recreation Ground access road as it has speed humps which may not be visible to runners when bunched together. Warning signs by the side of the road show the position of the speed humps and marshals will also shout out warnings. Runners must complete the 10 Mile course by 1:30 pm when the Marshals and Police will be leaving their positions. If you are unable to complete the course, or are feeling unwell, tell a Marshal who will arrange for First Aid and/or the back-up mini bus service to take you back to the Recreation Ground. The Rotary Club of Chelmsford Mildmay wish the Fun Runners a most enjoyable day, and hope that the more serious Road Runners achieve a personal best. 10 MILE ROAD RACE The Edmund Carr Great Baddow 10 Mile Charity Race - Course Profile Height in metres Noakes Ave Beehive Lane Galleywood Great Baddow Tall Mast West Hanningfield Road (close to main A12) Great Baddow Distance in Miles 10 No, there really are no mountains in Essex! The exagerated scale does make Galleywood, at 4.25 miles, look like an ancient hilltop fortified town, but it certainly is not! The lift up from the low "dip" just past Mile 2 (32m minimum), up to Galleywood (83m maximum), is a long steady climb. The first water station is just past the Mile 3 mark. The second water station and the sponge station are a short distance beyond the Mile 5 mark. The third water station is just beyond the Mile 8 mark and there is a final water station adjacent to the Finish. The course is definitely more "undulating" than flat, and be warned, the uphill grind around Mile 8 is testing, and do save a little energy for the final lift to the Finish. From Great Baddow High Street returning to the Recreation Ground, Baddow Road climbs what is known locally as "Tabor's Hill", and it really does feel like one! If, for reasons beyond the race organiser s control, there is a last minute cancellation of the event, all race fees will be FORFEITED and the proceeds donated to the races nominated charities.

7 EDMUND CARR GREAT BADDOW CHARITY RACES Sunday, 17 th May 2015 Great Baddow Recreation Ground, Chelmsford The Charities being supported, with your help, this year are: St John Ambulance (UK Registered Charity No /1) The Great Baddow Races, and similar sporting and public events, could not be run each year without the help and support of St John Ambulance. As the nation s leading first aid charity, St John Ambulance believes that nobody should die because they needed first aid and didn t get it. Yet every year, up to 140,000 people die in situations where first aid could have given them a chance to live. St John Ambulance teaches people first aid so that they can be the difference. Through First aid training St John Ambulance equip thousands of people with the skills to save a life; they provide advanced first aiders at public events; they are able to support the emergency services with Emergency response; and provide a wide range of opportunities with their Volunteer programmes. We are, this year, supporting the local branch The Rotary Club of Chelmsford Mildmay Charity Trust Fund (UK Registered Charity No ) This charity fund is administered by the Rotary Club of Chelmsford Mildmay and will be used to help and support various projects in the local community throughout the coming year. Also receiving donations to help support them will be those charitable organisations that so willingly give us their help and assistance each year so that we can hold this event safely. They include the League of Friends of Hargrave House (UK Registered Charity No ) - the Great Baddow charity which aims to advance the education of youngsters (and young adults) with severe learning difficulties, by the provision of facilities for such purposes that are not normally provided by the Local Authority; local Scout Groups and other youth organisations; the PTA s of local schools; and several other similar groups. Please be generous in your support. We would like to raise a record amount this year to help the work of our chosen charities, and other groups. With your help we will. You may, if you wish to, raise money for your own favourite Charity as well, but if you do please let us know what the Charity is, and how much you raise for them. Thank you very much for your help. The Rotary Club of Chelmsford Mildmay administers a registered charity, the Rotary Club of Chelmsford Mildmay Charity Trust Fund Registered Charity No
