2 APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS Solid Tumor Translational Research (STTR) Programmatic Investment Grants Opportunity: Three $333,333 grants across 3 years are available to STTR faculty and their collaborators. Requirements: Proposals must be innovative and collaborative translational research projects with clear hypotheses, aims and outcomes to propel the field. Projects must be outside the scope of our current portfolios for NIH Program Projects, SPOREs, etc. Consideration given to faculty with different R01s (or similar granting types) who come together to create a programmatic focus. Favorable scoring will be given to projects that articulate a clear plan to move to a clinical trial, new screenings or guidelines within the next five (5) years. STTR will release $333,333 direct cost awards, with no additional F&A (at UW/UWMedicine, it is up to you to consult the sign-off process for awards received without F&A as per your departmental guidelines. At Fred Hutch, awardees are approved to use the funds for direct cost, salary and fringe). At least 50% of the award must be used at Fred Hutch. Dollars are unrestricted and/or can be used to hire full-time positions utilized between the team (i.e. tech, post doc, etc.). Year 2 funding is contingent upon submitting a progress report. Year 3 funding is contingent upon the team s submission to a large granting mechanism (i.e. NIH, DOD, etc.). NOTE: STTR staff can offer support for grant submission. Staffing: Teams must be translational and multi-disciplinary. Each team must include one PI who is a STTR member with a primary Fred Hutch appointment and at least two other STTR faculty from other disciplines and/or institutional appointment. Possible collaborations might include research scientists and clinicians. 4 ABSTRACT: The abstract should be 250 words or less. LAYMAN PROPOSAL: DO NOT exceed one page of text; the image can be on the second page. 1. Explain the significance of the research to the community, patient or disease. Language used must be at a high school reading level. This document will be used for reviewers outside of your field, to distribute to potential donors via the FH Development and UWM Advancement Offices and, possibly, via the marketing departments at both institutions on the website to garner more exposure for your research. 2. Include one image or diagram to represent your proposal. Please keep in mind that this image will be sent to potential donors and should be appropriate for a lay audience. Proposed Granting Mechanism: If a NIH grant has already been identified to apply for in Year 2, please include the name of the particular granting mechanism you envision applying for to meet the requirement for Year 3 funding. 3. Proposals for $333,333 grants must include three STTR faculty from different disciplines (one PI must have a primary Fred Hutch appointment).
