Well, it is a pretty old thing making beer, who did it first? Who knows? Who does it best? Well, we are slightly biased to answer that. There are many books and much literature on this subject, even Egyptian hieroglyphs depicting the art! Beer, after much trial and error over the years, has settled on four fundamental ingredients. Water is the foundation of all beer and can vary greatly from source to source. The dissolved minerals create flavors unique to the particular water supply which has defined styles. The soft waters of Bohemia helped shape the pilsner style, the Burton-on-Trent-waters gave traditional English ales their unique taste, as have the Dublin waters so long associated with stouts. Barley is our most versatile ingredient. From a single kernel we get a range of flavors such as bread, malt, coffee, chocolate, and caramel. In the mash tun brewers use hot water and enzymes already in the malt kernel which change the starches in the malt to fermentable sugars. It is this sugar water, called wort, that dictates what the alcohol content will be in the end. More malt = more sugar = more alcohol. Hops bring to beer, bitterness, aroma and preservation. It is this last quality that hops were settled upon after much experimentation with other ingredients like heather, spruce tips, and yarrow. Hops are added to the brew kettle with the wort. Of the hundred varieties they all have differing amounts of alpha acids, which give bitterness, and aromatic oils. Added early to the boil, the alpha acids are extracted, but aromatic oils are cooked off. Added late to the boil and the aromatic oils are retained, but little alpha acid extraction happens. Yeast is the final addition, and the workhorse of the brewery. During fermentation they take the sugars and convert them into alcohol and CO2, giving rise to a carbonated beer. The two types are ale and lager. Lager yeasts can ferment around 12C and will sink to the bottom of the vessel after fermentation, which is why they are known as bottom cropping yeast. Ale yeasts can ferment at warmer temperatures around 20C and will rise to the top of the vessel after fermentation, which is why they are known as top cropping yeast. It is the yeast that can give brewers fruity flavors and aromas without actually adding fruit. I am a great believer in trying new things, and I hope our selection encourages you to do so. Pilsner London Lager 4.3% The use of selected Pilsner malt gives it a pale straw colour, and the authentic German hops contribute complex pine and spice flavours and a crisp, elegant bitterness. Pale Ale London Pale Ale4.3% Combines lots of American Cascade and Centennial hops to give it a complex citrus aroma and buckets full of local Kentish Goldings. Together they conspire to assail the nose with a complex, heady mix of spearmint, grass and hop sack aromas. Stout London Stout 4.5% Derived from the original Stout Porters of the early 19th century.made without the roast barley used in their Irish descendents. Soft mocha coffee and vanilla notes on the nose hint at the lingering vanilla notes on the tongue. A velvet mouthfeel holds a rich and complex palate of caramel, molasses, and nut roast, which gives way to a gentle malt-bitter dryness. Wheat London Wheat 5.0% The use of 60% wheat and authentic Bavarian yeast gives Meantime Wheat fruity, spicy aromas and flavours, with a soft, mousse-like mouthfeel. Yakima Red London Pale Ale 4.1% The addition of five varieties of US hop from the Yakima Valley in Washington State imparts spectacular fruit and citrus flavor with a restrained bitterness. Beer Flight 7.90 A selection 1/3 Pint of Yakima Red, Lager, Stout & Wheat Krombacher Pilsner Lager 4.8% Pours a golden color with a big foam head. Grassy nose. Malt aroma throughout. Light bodied and crisp. Malt taste with a decent amount of hops. Krombacher Wiessen Wheat 5.3% Pours cloudy amber beer with huge and compact white head, aroma of banana, clove, lollipops and wheat malt, slightly biscuity. PaulanerHefe-Weissbier Dunk Dark Wheat 5.3% German dark wheat pours cloudy brown, faint malt aroma, spicy palate with a hint of cinnamon. BrugseZot (Blonde 6.0 %) 4.40 N/A Brugse s finest blonde &Brune (according to us off course) LidemansKriek Belgium Lambic 3.5% 4.40 N/A Lambic cherry beer full of fruity sweetness balanced by a refreshing tart sour finish. LARGE BOTTLES TO SHARE Chimay Blue Belgium Dark Trappist 75cl Grand Reserve 9% ABV This authentic Belgian beer, whose tinge of fresh yeast is associated with a light rosy flowery touch, is particularly pleasant. Its aroma, perceived as one enjoys it, only accents the delightful sensations revealed by the odour, all revealing a light but agreeable caramelized note. St Feuillien Belgium Dark Abbey Ale 75cl Brune 8.5% ABV This brown ale has a marked ruby brown colour with a generous and lasting head. It has a distinctive aroma reflecting the wide range of ingredients used in its production. The fruitiness resulting from its fermentation blends harmoniously with a dominant liquorices and caramel flavor. The body is decidedly malty. The bitterness is the result of a complex alchemy between the fine hops and special malts used. These give it a typical dark chocolate appearance. This beer creates an endless variety of sensations with a lingering taste and powerful aroma. St Feuillien Belgium Dark Abbey Ale 75cl Saison 6.5% ABV A traditional farmhouse ale with all the rich savor of the fertile land of southern Belgium. It is a warm golden blonde ale, is a top-fermented classic. Thanks to secondary fermentation in the bottle, it has an unmistakable flavour full of rich nuances and a slight tang. Meantime London Indian Pale Ale 75cl IPA 7.4% ABV India Pale Ale is the beer that sustained the British Raj it did not just survive the passage to India, it matured to perfection on the long voyage. Original IPA was heavily hopped up to twice as much as domestic beers - and so Meantime use plenty of Kent Fuggles and Goldings to help re-create the flavours of the world s first great pale beer style. Meantime London Porter 75cl Porter 6.5% ABV Porter was the great London beer style of the 18th and 19th centuries, when the city was revered as both the brewing capital and trading hub of the world. Named after the legions of porters in her docks, streets and markets who drank this powerful beer to slake their thirst, Meantime London Porter is a classic interpretation of this complex dark beer style.

Barbar Belgium Amber Ale 33cl 7.70 Honey The first sip is broad but the acidity strengthens the beer and gives it a lovely balance and freshness. The aftertaste is smooth and refined, spicy like liquorice root and slightly sweet. St Germain Belgium IPA 33cl 6.10 Rhubarb Kiwi Hopped 6% ABV Aroma is kiwi hops slight acidic wood and mild spicyness as well. Flavour is dry and crisp, mild sour wooden notes, citrus, caramel, some floral and acidic notes as well. Meantime England Porter 33cl 5.10 Chocolate 6.5% ABV Warm, complex and smooth, it has a long, clean finish. Meantime England Wheat Fruit 33cl 5.10 Raspberry 5% ABV Based on a pale, lightly hopped wheat beer, the refreshingly crisp fruitiness, aroma and rich colour come from the addition of fresh raspberry puree during maturation. Mariage Parfait Belgium Lambic 37.5cl 9.90 Boon Oude Geuze The soft, mildly sour berry taste, harmonises with the oak barrels aromas in which Geuze Mariage Parfait has ripen. The body speaks of vanilla followed by a bitter aftertaste of cloves that becomes increasingly intense. Sublime. CIDERS Cornish Orchard England Perry 50cl % ABV Refreshingly light, smooth and fruity. Orchard Pig Apple England Cider 50cl % ABV Medium English Cider. Savanna Cider South Apple Cider 33cl 4.20 Africa 5.5% ABV Premium Dry Cider is a supreme quality, Granny Smith Apples in South Africa LOW ALCOHOL Veltins Germany Pilsner 33cl 2.90 Alkoholfrei 0.5% ABV Alcohol Free North German Pilsner GLUTEN FREE Mongozo Belgium Pilsner 33cl 5.20 Organic 3.6% ABV Its grain mix includes sorghum malt, teff and rice. It pours a pale golden colour, with a nice head. The aroma is a sweet grain smell that gives off hints of apples or grapes. ORGANIC Schremser Austria Rye Beer 33cl 5.10 Bio Roggenbier 5.20% ABV Top-fermented, stands out due to its intensive full-bodied taste. Slightly fruity to start then pithy with a long aftertaste.

4 BOTTLED BEER UNITED KINGDOM Titanic England Golden Ale 50cl 5.90 Iceberg 4.1% ABV The aroma is of malt, dough and butterscotch, with some occasional floral notes. The flavour is dry, bitter and hoppy. The palate is very good and the bitterness lingers for quite a while. Timothy England Bitter 50cl 6.10 Taylor Landlord 4.1% ABV Pours honey colored with a small head. It smells of mild, toasty caramel malt. The flavor features caramel and grain with mild to moderately bitter english hops. It s easy drinking with some mild bitterness lingering on the palate. Harviestoun Scotland Old Ale 33cl 8.50 Ola Dubh 12 YO With more than a stylistic nod to the classic Imperial Porters (and Stouts) of the nineteenth century, this deliciously rich, dark, 8% a.b.v. beer is the first ale to be aged in malt whisky casks from a named distillery and, with traceable casks and numbered bottles, the rest with genuine provenance. Deep copper color that pours with a good head and nice lacing as you work down the glass.balanced bitterness and malt with a good finishing bite that lingers. BOTTLED BEER CONTINENTAL Estrella Spain Lager 33cl 4.90 Galicia 1906 Schneider Germany Wheat Bok 50cl 8.50 Aventinus 8.20% ABV Dark-ruby colored wheat doppelbock with a creamy fine head. Strong notes of ripe bananas, raisins and plums meet liquorice and roastyaromes. Full-bodied and warming, with a well-balanced and smooth finish. Hacker Hefe Germany Wheat 50cl 6.40 Weisse 5.50% ABV A little cloudy at first it clears up as it sits. Taste like a good clean wheat beer with hints of caramel and clove. After taste was a top feature for this beer. Very little head.small amount of lace.gorgeous cider color. Caramel was the dominant smell Westmalle Belgium Abbey 33cl 6.10 Dubbel 7% ABV A reddish brown trappist ale, malty and fruit, featuring a 3 week secondary fermentation Rochefort 10 Belgium Abt/Quad 33cl 9.90 Trappisters 11.3% ABV The top product from the Rochefort Trappist brewery.dark color, full and very impressive taste.strong plum, raisin, and black currant palate, with ascending notes of vinousness and other complexities. Maredesous 6 Belgium Ale 33cl % ABV Golden beer with a characteristically fresh bouquet and sweet after-taste. Delirium Tremens Belgium Pale Ale 33cl 7.40 Huyge 8.5% ABV Fermented with three different kinds of yeast. Pours a very slightly hazy gold colour, on the nose it is honeyed and buttery, with a little hint ofcaramel, and some ripe pear fruit. Dense body and a nice bitter depth. Duvel Belgium Pale Ale 33cl 7.40 Moorgat 8.5% ABV Strong golden ale, fruity and lush with strong noble hop aroma, a full body, and a delicate, well rounded, and unusually smooth finish. La Chouffe Belgium Strong Ale 33cl 7.80 Blonde Golden Ale, strong, spicy, lightly hoppy, with evolving taste. Natural beer, bottle conditioned, unfiltered, not pasteurised and without any additives Kwak Belgium Dark Ale 33cl 6.90 Bosteels 8.4% ABV Pours a ruby, dark amber colour, with a tight, persistent white head.aroma of wheat, cloves and spices, but also a toffee note and hints ofestery banana. Medium-bodied but smooth, with a nice lightness of touch and a racy lemon fruit quality. KarmelietTripel Belgium Abbey 33cl 6.90 Bosteels Very refined and complex golden-to-bronze brew with a fantastic creamy head. Aroma has hints of vanilla mixed with citrus aromas. TripelKarmeliet has not only the lightness and freshness of wheat, but also the creaminess of oats together with a spicy lemony almost quinine dryness.

A light, bright nose of wild Strawberries. Refreshing and smooth on the palate. Moreish finish. 302 Cotes de Provence Château Leoube Complex aromas of white flesh fruits and small red berries. This delicate rose wine will go with everything, will be wonderful along a meal. Organic wine.
