West Ranch is served by the outstanding Friendswood Independent School District, which is consistently recognized as one of the Houston area s very best school districts. Friendswood Junior High Grades Manison Parkway, Friendswood Junior High is one of the newest and most impressive educational facilities in the greater Houston area. When the school relocated to its new facility at the opening of the school year, it expanded to include a sixth grade campus. Now, students in the sixth, seventh and eighth grades are a part of the junior high, with each grade in its own area of the campus. The school features state-of-the-art science labs, four computer labs equipped with 30 new imac computers each, an expansive auditorium, a gymnasium with a focus on personal wellness, sports fields, and classrooms with garden views or views of the park; flat-screen televisions that flash announcements before school begins every morning, and choir and band rooms that are spacious and acoustically enhanced. Documenting cameras and interactive whiteboards are in every class room, and the boards project a computer desktop onto a large screen that allows users to control the computer with a digital pen. Friendswood High School Grades Greenbriar, Friendswood High School continues to rank in the Top 1 percent in high test scores in the state. The goal of the school is to assist in the development of well-rounded, productive citizens with a broad range of interests, abilities and experiences. Friendswood High School is also a State Honor Roll School and has been named one of the top 13 high school in Texas by the Just for Kids and the Texas Business and Education Coalition. FISD Natatorium In 2010, FISD opened its $ million natatorium a 20,000 square-foot facility to serve the Friendswood community. Home to the Friendswood High School swim team, water polo and dive teams, this natatorium has a 9,000-square-foot, eight lane, 25 yard swimming pool, a movable bulkhead, and seating for 250 spectators. We moved to Friendswood for the school district, which played a big role in our decision on where to live. We choose to commute each day to Galveston so our children can be part of this school district. We built a new Highland Home on the lake, which is one of our favorite parts of the community. This is a neighborhood with many new families with young children, which makes a difference when you have children. It s an open area with beautiful homes and it has a good feeling about it.
