1 Piotr Kmita was born in 1981 in Kłodzko. In 2006 he graduated from the Graphics Faculty at PIOTR KMITA Wrocław Fine Arts Academy. He has realized his diploma Zniewagi i obrazy ( Insults and images ) under Prof. Eugeniusz Get Stankiewicz' s guidance. In his creative work he makes use of all kinds of formal means (painting, graphics, installations), which he applies to comment on a variety of issues, with a special emphasis on the artist s role in the contemporary world. His works are full of distance and irony, by means of which he challenges influential figures in the artistic world. Selected collective exhibitions: Selected individual exhibitions: Apoptoza, BWA Studio, Wrocław 2012 Lisia nora, BWA Studio, Wrocław 2012 Emergency Room, European Culture Congress, Wrocław 2011 House of Change, Dzieduszycki Family Villa (European Culture Congress), Wrocław 2011 Communism never happened, Mieszkanie Gepperta, Wrocław 2010 Przegląd Sztuki Survival 8, Bunkier Strzegomski, Wrocław 2010 Survival 7, Wytwórnia Filmów Fabularnych, Wrocław 2009 Rozmówki polsko-polskie ( Polish-polish phrase book ), Galeria MDS, Wrocław 2008 Greetings from Wroclaw, Galeria 2 piętro, Wrocław 2008 Herzlich wir kommen, Galeria Pokusa, Wiesbaden Niemcy 2007 Master and Margaritas, Galeria Domus, Wrocław 2007 Art Magazine, Galeria Wizytująca, Warszawa 2006 Lettra 2006, Biblioteka Jagiellońska, Kraków 2006 Supermarket of Art V/1 - Tolerate Me! - Biennial of Young European Art, Galeria DAP, Warszawa 2005 Wieża Ciśnień, Konin 2006 Wroclaw's Drawfs, Galeria Kolegium, Wrocław rd Student s Graphics Biennale, BWA Poznań 2003 Metafory ex cathedra, BWA Design, Wrocław 2002 WINNING, BWA Awangarda, Wrocław 2012 Okropności zabawy ( The Disasters of Joy ), Mieszkanie Gepperta, Wrocław 2011 Preview, Arttrakt Gallery, Wrocław 2011 Zniewagi i obrazy ( Insults and images ), BWA Wrocław 2006 Sasnal to przy mnie krasnal, Galeria 2 piętro, Wrocław 2006 Awards and honorable mentions: WARTO Award of Gazeta Wyborcza 2012 The Ministry of Culture and National Heritage 2011 Nomination to WARTO Award of Gazeta Wyborcza 2011 Honorable mention and medal for the best diploma of Graphics Faculty 2006 II Award in competition Wild thing, Studio BWA, Wrocław 2006
2 INSULTS AND IMAGES The diploma work Insult and outrage by Piotr Kmita was generally a set of several paintings (oil on canvas) which aim was to insult as many people as possible. Starting with The painting which insults people who know nothing, through The painting which insults people who often drink to The painting which insults the feelings of snails. All works were supposed to insult and induce scandal so necessary in contemporary culture. To avoid negative consequences the author covered potentially abusive patterns with safe logical images. The viewer who really wanted to feel offended had to spend much time and put much intellectual effort to solve the riddle and see what was hidden under the code. The painting which insults people who often drink 80 x 88 cm The painting which insults people who like to bogue out 80 x 88 cm The painting which insults people who have noses 80 x 88 cm The painting which insults people who are stressed 80 x 75 cm The painting which insults people who have problems with balance 80 x 76 cm The painting which insults people who work all the time 80 x 88 cm The painting which insults people whose radio is not working 80 x 75 cm The painting which insults people who know nothing 80 x 76 cm The painting which insults the feelings of snails 21 x 27 cm

8 Piotr Kmita s The disasters of joy is a series of graphic works in THE DISASTERS OF JOY which the artist refers to series of etchings by Francisco Goya. Kmita carefully observes the apparent tendency of the media to highlight pain, suffering and violence. Movies and shows like Jackass or even apparently harmless cartoons (for example Tom and Jerry ) hide brutal message. It is difficult to resist the impression that when you stop some of the shots - and separate them from the climate of bizarre entertainment - the visual layer invariably evokes the terrible images of authentic violence seen in Goya s Disaster of War.

12 This series is using online demotivators - demotivating parodies of motivating posters created by combining a picture with an appropriate caption. Pictures DEMOTIVATORS used in this series have been taken from Facebook profiles of author's friends. The captions he's added describe the world of art in an ironic way, from a point of view of an artist who is also a part of this world. It is not only an expression of his own thoughts but also a manifestation of popular opinions which are rarely expressed aloud.

16 BETWEEN is an object composed of triangles, which by constant turning change their mutual arrangement. It assumes more or less abstract forms, six times a day, arranging in the Star of BETWEEN OBJECT 40 X 30 CM 2012 David symbol. Movement during these phases is so slow that is almost negligible. Each triangle is located on a separate clock mechanism and takes the full rotation in 12 hours. The size of frame with glass is 40 x 30 cm. The installation is powered by six AA batteries. The work suppose to comment the history of Israel (understood both as a state and nation) the subject for thousands of years marked by constant changes of existence as a strong desire to change the image of perpetual duration - the struggle for identity of the nation, which was exhausted by many calamities becomes a natural process of strengthening this identity.
