2 Session Objectives (a) To present the state-of-the-art on Internet of Things Architectures (and their implementation), including efforts undertaken in the European research Cluster of the Internet of Things (IERC cluster), the standardization bodies and open source community. (b) To explore the practicality and the merit of holistic integrated IoT architectures and to compare their potential with the wide range of ad-hoc silo architectures that are currently developed to serve specific applications. (c) To identify the next steps in the development of IoT architectures, with emphasis on solutions that will facilitate the development of useful IoT solutions and their integration to the emerging FI Architecture(s).
3 The idea behind Internet of Things Devices connected through the Internet à Internet of Things Today the idea of devices with computing capabilities able to process data in real time is a reality,
4 IoT enables Smart Applications Different data sources for integration à IoT Services and Applications There is a need for combining information sources into easy to use data resources for applications.
5 Exchange of Information The world goes Interconnected: IoT, M2M, E2E. else daily-life objects or virtual sensors, the common feature is to share and exchange information.

14 IoT Architectures and Modeling There is no single internet of things, that means that although main principles could be common there are some specific needs to be tackle. More and more the smart objects are being just a small part of the whole picture and the relevance will be on the services
15 Much of the work on IoT has been centered on sensors and the networking or connectivity, named the infrastructure but several new areas are needed like the Identity of the things. IoT infrastructure, identify and discovery Also any object is being able to be a source of information enabling the Internet of Things, an Internet of Services.
16 Naming, addressing and discovery are crucial building blocks of IoT Intelligent discovery is a foundation for added-value applications Several IoT solutions are available, and accordinly to particular requirements and specific realizations
17 Standard makers should be close to standard users/implementers coopera5on among industry, consumers, public authori5es and other interested par5es. IoT Standardisation Open Source is required for promoting reliability and quality and by supporting independent a rapid evolution of software.
18 Smart phone mobility is becoming more the catalyts for the growing of the IoT and that means that it is being seen as an extension of the paradigm of E2E services of the initial Internet. Interoperability of data enabling exchange and distribution of information is crucial for supporting IoT service applications in the Internet. IoT mobility of services and Applications
IERC Activity Quick View Objective The aim of European Research Cluster on the Internet of Things (IERC) is to address the large potential for IoT-based capabilities and to coordinate the convergence of ongoing activities. Global Dimension IERC facilitates the knowledge sharing at the global level and encourages and exchange best practices and new business models that are emerging in the IoT atmosphere in different parts of the world. Clusters The activity chains pursue close cooperation between the projects addressing IoT particular topics and form an arena for exchange of ideas and open dialog on relevant IoT research challenges Enabling networked knowledge 19
