Creating an IoT Ecosystem Through Scenarios Call for actions*! We have the objective to collect a wide set of Use Cases, service descriptions, Business Models, reference implementations and more related to IoT! With your input, we will provide to the IoT community a set of compelling examples and possible services from which it will be possible to derive an IoT architecture and describe its components.! With that we are creating a solid base that can help the community to progress towards the realization and implementation of a vibrant IoT industry.! All materials will be made available to the IEEE IoT Technical Community through the IEEE IoT web portal. * IoT Scenarios/Use Cases issued on June 9 th,2015 9
Creating an IoT Ecosystem Through Scenarios! Tag The City (TTC) Applicability Area: The tag the city service falls in the Smart City category. This service can be used for many application areas! The service allows a person or a service provider to tag places. Tagging here means a virtual placemarker that describes a particular feature of a place and pinpoint to a description available in the WWW. Tags can be public (i.e., available to all) or private, visible to a closed user group and sometimes they can be viewed only if the user is paying for a service or a single tag! This service could be extended with Augmented Reality capabilities and could address in particular the Mobile Terminal segment.! The Tags and their aggregation are open to mashup e.g. operated by the Users themselves or by specialized companies and administrations that make available specific content. 10
Creating an IoT Ecosystem Through Scenarios! Tag The City Actors of the Tag The City Service:! User, Infrastructure Provider, Tag Owner, Content Provider, Help Desk Business Modeling - Value Chain - Revenue Streams TAG Provider Added3Value App Provider TTC Infrastr. Provider Content Provider Customer 11
Creating an IoT Ecosystem Through Scenarios! Tag The City Service level functions to be supported by an IoT infrastructure Localization of virtual tags and association with places or other objects Discovery of services/objects depending on the user identity Security/privacy aspects Interoperability of various format and information tagging Advertising of objects/tags Self-management with no user intervention Integration of Terminals 12
Creating an IoT Ecosystem Through Scenarios! Tag The City (TTC) Basic functions to be supported by lower layers Communication infrastructure for sending events or suggestion to users. Ability to determine the context of a person moving in an geographical environment or within buildings Contract and openness of virtual objects depending on the contract between the user and a service provider 13
Creating an IoT Ecosystem Through Scenarios! Tag The City (TTC) Indication of functions/requirements that the particular Use Case is stressing Mobility of objects and associated VOs. Dynamic aggregation of a meaningful set of tags and possible allocation of resources. Interoperability of objects pertaining to different administrative domains 14
Deriving Input from Scenarios for an IoT Architectural Framework! Why?! Most current standardization activities are confined to very specific domains and stakeholder groups. They therefore represent islands of disjointed and often redundant development.! IEEE P2413 architectural framework is an attempt to overcome this! The IEEE-SA Corporate Advisory Group (representing 200+ industry members) provides sponsorship for P2413 to maintain a balanced focus on industry / market / technology and standards eco-system requirements within the development framework 15
Deriving Input from Scenarios for an IoT Architectural Framework! IEEE P2413! defines an IoT architecture framework that covers the architectural needs of various IoT Application Domains! enables cross-domain interaction and platform unification through increased system compatibility, interoperability and functional exchangeability! increases the transparency of system architectures to support safety and security! reduces industry fragmentation and create a critical mass of multi-stakeholder activities around the world 16
Deriving Input from Scenarios for an IoT Architectural Framework! IEEE P2413! a reference model that defines relationships among various IoT domains (e.g., transportation, healthcare, etc.) and common architecture elements and! a reference architecture that builds upon the reference model! defines basic architectural building blocks and their ability to be integrated into multi-tiered systems! IoT domain abstractions, and! how to document and mitigate architecture divergence 17
Deriving Input from Scenarios for an IoT Architectural Framework! IEEE P2413 Besides interactions with standardization activities within IEEE, P2413 will strive to establish liaisons with other standardization bodies. Discussions are underway with IEEE , IEC SG8, onem2m, and IIC Work completion timeline:
SAE and IEEE P2413 Joint Workshop! Workshop outlined the great opportunity to align interests between IEEE IoT Initiative and the ongoing IoT work in SAE! The central question today is how the future of the automotive Industry in the IoT world will look like. In particular question on: interoperability, potential liability, expected regulations and automotive activity within IoT scenarios are of outmost interest. *7 th May 2015, SAE International Headquarters, Troy, Michigan, USA ** SAE represents 650 committees, successfully developing standards on mobile automotive platforms *** e.g. Shotspotter 19 16/06/15

Spring 2015 IoT Startup Event Hosted by IEEE-SA and IEEE IoT Initiative May 19, 2015; San Jose, CA /06/15
What are we are looking for?! Content Producers Seeking for technical contributions related to IoT challenges to be shared through the portal and the newsletter 21 Scenarios/Use Cases of IoT applications (see Contributions to IoT Universe of discourse: comments, improvements, additions to the IoT definition document and glossary (see Contribution to reference implementation with particular emphasis on Standard P2413! Educators Lectures on IoT important topics Volunteers to support our effort in creating tools and content for MOOC in IoT Hands-on presentation for teaching how to program IoT!
