Life Cycle Data Management System for Japanese construction field The 2 nd Asia Construction IT Round Table Meeting 24th 25th August, 2006, Tokyo Japan. Name: Takeya ISOBE Organization: LCDM Forum, CTI Engineering Co., Ltd.
Agenda 1.Introduction 2.Current Issues of Sharing 3.Solutions of Issues by LCDM System 4.Objective of LCDM System 5.Fundamental Requisites of LCDM System 6.Developing Steps of LCDM System 7.System Configuration of LCDM System 8.Data Handled by LCDM System 9.Behavior of LCDM System 10.LCDM Forum 11.Future Collaborative Works on R/R
1. Introduction LCDM is: General concept of data sharing and system collaboration all through the construction lifecycle, not only execution process, but also maintenance process of completed objects. *LCDM: Life Cycle Data Management Goals are: To develop specification of data standards and information infrastructure, on which standardized data are registered, updated, and made effective use of, in order to promote data standards and make information investment efficient. 2
2. Current Issues of Sharing(1/2) Today s System has been developed to realize the Efficient Individual Business Processing. Up to today, separated system has been equipped which realize efficient individual business processing. As the result, efficient total business processing (total optimization) has not been realized by data circulation. The cause is that definition, semantics of data and acquisition method of data have not been shared. What has been realized Efficient Business Processing (Partial Optimization) Individual information systems for each business has been build and individual data has been equipped. (CALS/EC, e-government, GIS, etc.) Data linking and system integration have been done in the closed business processing system. current information system What has not been realized Efficient Total Business Processing (Total Optimization) Smoothness of digital data exchanging which equipped on each information system. (Double data registration or re-input of printed out data between each system are realistic.) Deployment of data reuse and data recycle - compilation and processing. (Those are restricted in the specific systems.) If that should been left as it are, There might be too many data standards running. Data linking between all fields of business processing could not be realized. The ROI might be rather limited by the equipment of information system. The causes are Definition, semantics of data and acquisition method of data are not shared There is not enough standardization of data definition. There is not enough publication of data definition and data structure. What kind of data there are is not known. Locations of data are not known, if there are any. Acquisition methods of data are not standardized. 3
2. Current Issues of Sharing(2/2) ROI of System is limited on the condition of insufficient standardization. In case of disaster, when a citizen wants to gather information of the neighborhood, he never gets the whole picture unless he makes access to data providers separately. Disaster Traffic Road Weather River Disaster Traffic Road Weather River It is my home town. How it is citizen Needs of Data Circulation Infrastructure Data Circulation Infrastructure citizen Standard Address? Place? Point? Location? 4
3. Solution of Issues by LCDM System(1/4) Needs of Registry Standard and Data Standard Creator I wonder if if there is anyone doing what we have accomplished? We cannot complete the standard. But we need to know that each standard is being worked out somewhere. Standard Data Provider We want to provide our data which conform to the standard. But we don t know where/how we should inform/publicize. System Developer We don t know how to acquire the standard which should be being worked out concerning some topics. The standard should be being worked out. Because the standard will be influence to our developing product, we want to join the working group or watch the status of standardization. Registry There you ll Register and Search Standard You ll find every answer here! Data Consumer We don t know exactly who has data nor what kind of data they are. We don t know where we refer to. We don t know what meaning they have. We don t know how to use them. 5
3. Solution of Issues by LCDM System(2/4) Needs of Portal To make the data circulate. The portal gather necessary information. You don t have to search providers for necessary information. Data Provider We want to provide our data which conform to the standard. Data Provider We want to provide our data which conform to the standard Data Provider We want to provide our data which conform to the standard Standard Registry There you ll Register and Search Standard Portal There you ll make access to data and utilize them You ll find every answer here! You ll search the data provider who will provide the data which confirm to the standard. It is the window to acquire the real data. Data Consumer We want to acquire the data which confirm to the standard. 6
3. Solution of Issues by LCDM System(3/4) Then Fundamental System of Data Circulation is indispensable. It is the LCDM System. To make the standard apparent in the construction industry. To make it apparent which data is created to conform to which standard. To make it accurate where the date is in the network society. National / Regional Government Business Body who is received the order Power Company / Gas Company Research Body / College Citizen Data Standard Creator (Examination Authority) Portal Operator: Operate the provided service Registry There you ll Register and Search Standard Portal There you ll make access to data and utilize them Registry Operator: Register and maintain the data standard Data Provider: Provide the real data Data conversion(lcdm Adapter) Data conversion(lcdm Adapter) Data conversion(lcdm Adapter) Business Info. Ledger Info. Individual DB Geologic Info. Disaster Info. Statistic Info. Traffic / Weather Info. etc. Nation(Regional Service Bureau, Office, etc.) Business Info. Ledger Info. 9 3. Solution of Issues by LCDM System(4/4) For the circulation of data, the first thing is circulation of data standards in the form of data models. Then, plan to circulate data based upon circulating standards. And then, solve the problems involved in system-linking. Solution of Problem in Linking of Deferent Communities Prospective Data Circulation Priority of Problem Solution Emergent Data Circulation Register Data Standard Circulation Search Acquistion Data Standard Circulation Register Data Standard Circulation Search Acquisition Utilizing Systems Solution of Problem in System-Linking Register Search Acquisition Solution of Problems in Data Standard Solution of Problems in Data 8
