2 April October 2003 she carried out research activity of application of genetic algorithms to microelectronic design, supervised by Prof. Valentino Liberali and Prof. Andrea G.B. Tettamanzi. November 2003 November 2006 she was in her course for Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, at the Information Technology Department, at the University of Milan. The research activity developed in the soft-computing area, aimed in particolar to the study and the implementation of evolutionary algorithms for design and optimizaiton of complex neural and fuzzy models. August 2003: she attented the Summer School: EvoNet Summer School 2003 at the University of Parma, Italy. July 2004: she attented the Summer School: Neural Networks 2004 in Data Mining, Classification and Regression at ISEP, Porto, Portugal. January 2005 December 2006: post-doc researcher position at the University of Milan, Department of Information Technology, with a collaboration with Prof. Ernesto Damiani regarding research activity on secure and trusted hardware. DESCRIPTION OF THE RESEARCH ACTIVITY April October 2003: Study and implementation of evolutionary techniques based on genetic algorithms for microelectronics systems. Development of multi-stady digital filter with reduced power comsumption. The approach has been used for an analog-digital converter, entirely implemented with a genetic algorithm, providing several advantages related to the hardware implementation, as a reduction of the occupied area respect to the conventional approaches and an improvement of the power consumption and the velocity of the circuit. Research activity at the Information Technology Department, supervised by Prof. Andrea G.B. Tettamanzi and Prof. Valentino Liberali, regarding the implementation on FPGA and the sperimental test of a digital filter. Design and testing of digital filters using Xilinx tool.

3 November 2003 December 2004: collaboration with SST-Microelectronics Crema Lab., regarding: Development of test pattern, with assembly, C, C++ languages, for ARM7 chip family. Study of the architecture and related hardware and software components for chip and co-processors testing. Study and analysis of algorithms for check systems for automotive using soft computing techniques, aimed to the definition of novel check systems for motors. January 2005 Today: collaboration to research projects, related to the FIRB-KIWI project, supervised by Prof. Ernesto Damiani: Study of biometric techniques for strong authentication: definition of a system to provide framework to grant the authentication permissions through different authentication methodologies. Research activity with Siemens Mobile Research Group on security and trusted harware. Study about different authentication techniques, such as knowledge-based and tokenbased, for ensure the right access to hardware components. November 2003 November 2006: the main research activity is based on study and implementation of a solution based on soft computing methodologies in order to optimze feedforward neural network design, in classification problems. A genetic algorithm is implemented for a joint optimization of neural network structure and weights. Full connected multi layer perceptron networks have been considered for the population definition. Genetic operators are defined to optimize such individuals of the population for a given specific problem. The approach has been validated on several benchmark problems and already applied to different real world problems. Actual Research Activity: Study of novel approaches based on Evolutionary Algorithms and Artificial Immune Systems for network security (Intrusion Detection Systems, ). Study and development of the open issues related to the neuro-genetic approach for the optimization of neural networks design based on evolutionary algorithms. Study and development of trusted data and access rights based on strong authentication techniques to support weak authentication techniques. Design and optimization of evolutionary systems based on Particle Swarm Optimization in conjunction with evolutionary strategies. 8.
