3 The Victor Fellowship in Photography Programme description and objectives The Victor Fellowship in Photography has been designed to encourage continuing artistic and professional development under the supervision of, and in collaboration with distinguished professionals at highly prestigious art and/or photography institutions outside the Nordic countries. The Foundation offers the Victor Fellowship to the United States for a holder of a Master s degree. The Victor Fellowship The 2016 Victor Fellowship awardee will receive a fixed sum of money that will cover travel, 6 months studio rent at ISCP, 6 months accommodation and living expenses. General eligibility The Fellowship is open to individuals holding a Master s degree in photography, fine arts or photo journalism, with the main focus on still photography. For the 2016 Fellowship, the following shall apply: Applicants must: a. hold a Master s degree from an institute of higher education in the Nordic countries (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden) or be a Nordic citizen who has completed a degree elsewhere, and b. have graduated between or expect to have graduated by June 2016, and c. be proficient in the English language. info@

4 Eligibility The will present the 2016 Victor Fellowship awardee with a six-month residency at the International Studio & Curatorial Programme (ISCP) in Brooklyn, New York. ISCP is a non-profit, residency-based, contemporary art centre for artists and curators from around the world. Founded in 1994, ISCP has hosted over 1,800 residents from more than 60 countries and serves as an active facilitator for its residents, providing them with a platform in the creative life of New York City. In 2008, ISCP moved from Manhattan to East Williamsburg, Brooklyn, to an 18,000 square-foot former factory, increasing ISCP's facilities to 35 studios, an exhibition gallery and a project space. ISCP strives to establish a global network of exemplary artists and curators and to provide them with support for research and production during their residency, thereby contributing to their professional and artistic growth. Three integrated activity areas, the Residency Programme, Exhibition Programme and Participatory Projects, allow ISCP to produce, present and contextualize contemporary art through a diverse range of international perspectives. The will provide the Victor Fellowship awardee with a sixmonth residency, beginning on September 1, 2016, at the International Studio & Curatorial Programme (ISCP). He or she will participate fully in ISCP s residency programme for emerging to mid-career international artists and curators. Degree certificate and transcripts Upon completion of the residency programme at ISCP, a formal letter will be issued describing the nature of the work that the Victor Fellowship awardee has been involved in. The selection process The applicant is to submit only one application, which is to be sent to the. (For details on how to complete the application form, please see the section Application procedure below.) Step 1. The applicant sends in an application package including a portfolio and the Application Form. Application deadline: March 1, Step 2. The s selection committee appoints one winner. The decision is final and there is no appeals process. The announcement of the name of the awardee will be made on the website in May, Admission to ISCP in New York The Victor Fellowship awardee is guaranteed a six-month artist-in-residency at ISCP beginning on September 1, 201. Please note that the start of the programme cannot be postponed. If the awardee is unable to spend the period from September 1, 2016 to February 28, 2017 in New York, then the Foundation at its own discretion will either draw up terms and conditions for a possible alternative use of the Fellowship funds by the awardee, or withdraw the Fellowship. info@

6 Announcement of Victor Fellowship awardee The will publish the name of the Victor Fellowship awardee and the Foundation s statement. The Foundation reserves the right to keep, make use of and publish any images submitted to illustrate the application. Announcements of the name of the Victor Fellowship awardee will be made at the discretion of the Foundation on the website of the Foundation. Disbursement of Fellowship funds The Fellowship shall be used for payment of studio rent, the costs of materials, accommodation, and travel and living expenses. A budget will be presented to the awardee. Regarding payment of the awardee s costs for photography materials, exhibition costs, accommodation, travel and living expenses, the Foundation reserves the right to make payments in instalments, in accordance with a time schedule established by the Foundation. The Foundation also has the right to stipulate that certain conditions, such as the receipt of progress reports, are met before payments are made. Reports from the Victor Fellowship awarded An interim written report on the residency programme at ISCP is to be submitted to the Foundation by the awardee after the first three months at ISCP. A final report is to be submitted upon completion of the programme. The final report is to include illustrations of any new work produced by the awardee during the residency and certification of the completion of the course from ISCP, as well as remarks of interest for future awardees and for the Foundation. The Foundation is presently considering the possibility of adding further aspects as to the evaluation of the results. Applications are accepted by regular mail, mail courier or personal delivery but not by . Instructions for filling in the application form Applications are to be submitted in English using the application form. Fill in the form as fully as possible and sign it. Please do not refer to a large number of appendices or enclosures, nor primarily to work published on websites. Such documents or references to websites will not be considered as primary application documents. The compulsory elements of the application are the completed application form, the CV, the portfolio of images and the core statement. Handwritten applications will not be considered. The numbered items below refer to the corresponding numbers on the application form. Personal data Education Background and experience Enclose short (maximum 2 pages) curriculum vitae (CV) listing positions held, previous awards received, exhibitions held, publications etc. Please note that this item is compulsory. Languages Please list the languages you are able to speak, and judge your own proficiency by ticking the appropriate box for each. If you have taken a test of English as a foreign language (TOEFL or similar), indicate date and score. Title(s) of the portfolio(s) Personal statement Provide a detailed description of the work(s) submitted. Explain the ideas underpinning your work(s) and give relevant background information info@

8 including your aims and methods. Also explain why you are competing for the Victor Fellowship, and state your professional goals. Please note that the personal statement must be printed in a font size of at least 12 points, maximum 500 words, and may not exceed the page allotted to it in the application form. Additional descriptive material will not be considered. References Provide the names of two references including title, position, telephone number and address. Enclosed portfolio You must submit a portfolio containing 10 to 30 photographs of between 18 x 24 cm and 24 x 30 cm. Instructions for labelling and listing. Put the title of your project(s) on the front page of the portfolio. Label the back of each photograph with a title, the date of the work and an identification number. List the identification number, title and date of each photograph on the application form. Do not enclose more than 30 images. The photographs should not be placed in plastic pockets in a folder. Each photograph should be free-standing. Core concept statement On the basis of the personal statement provided under item 6, give a summary of your work(s) in a maximum of 80 words (font size 12 points). All your application documents (including the portfolio(s)) will be kept or discarded by the Foundation at the Foundation s discretion when the selection procedure is completed. Your portfolio will not be returned. The Foundation takes no responsibility for loss of, or damage to, your application documentation or portfolio in transit or during the selection process. info@

9 Summary Your application package must contain: Documents - One (1) completed original of the application form, with the CV (item 4) and the core concept statement (item 9) as appendices. - Two (2) completed copies of the application form, CV, and core concept statement. Please note that one original and two copies mean a total set of three (3) application forms, CVs and core concept statements. Portfolio(s) Your portfolio(s) (item 8) containing 10 to 30 photographs, size between 18 x 24 cm and 24 x 30 cm. Submit only one set (copies not required). Do not place the photographs in plastic pockets in folders.
