3 About the city of Stavanger Stavanger is a very international town, with an estimated 179 nationalities. Stavanger is located at the west coast of Norway and is an old Fishermans village dating back to The town is compromised of many beautiful white wooden houses and boats. Did you know Stavanger is home to the largest wooden houses settlement of entire Scandinavia? At the harbour of Stavanger, located right in the middle of its city centre, you can also buy fresh fish right off the boats! Also in the city centre you will find a nice shopping area and cosy coffee bars. Rogaland county The Stavanger region, also known as the food basket of Norway, hosts many wellestablished, high quality restaurants. A lot of food is produced in this area and many restaurants aim at cooking with local products. You will find many great fish restaurants, as well as Halal restaurants. Also, Stavanger is known as the oil capital of Norway; the town has a very interesting offshore oil museum were you can learn more about the industry, as well as other museums which are a lot of fun for adults as well as families and children! Everything is arranged in such a way that you can travel in the company of your family, friends or join alone in the company of other like minded travellers in our group. Also we arrange trips for privately selected groups. During our tour you will be accompanied with our local Arabic speaking guide. This program is perfectly suited for your stay during the ONS Our guides are looking forward to giving you three great days in Stavanger and its beautiful surroundings. You will experience Stavanger through the elements of food, culture, nature and shopping, in the company of a great group of peopleof like minded travelers. Nature Food Norway is known for having distinctive nature and fjords. Close to Stavanger a beautiful fjord is located. The water in the fjord has a special light blue colour and its cliffs are spectacular. It is a great experience to see the fjords from up-close whilst being in a boat. The fjords in region of Stavanger came into existence a very long time ago; ten thousand years ago, during the last ice age! The Norwegian Fjords are one of the natural wonders of the world. Hengjanefossen, a 400 meter high impressive waterfall, is one of the waterfalls you can see in the fjord close to Stavanger. It can be said that Norwegians very much love to be outside and expereince Norway s nature. In Norway we have a famous saying: Det finnes ikke dårlig vær - bare dårlige klær! meaning there is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes! With a local Arabic speaking guide you will get all interesting information about Stavanger and Norway. The Viking age for example, has been of great influence in the development of the area. Also, in the area you can find different rock carvings dating back to the Bronze Age, as well as a iron age farms dating back to that time. We warmly welcome you to Stavanger, come and explore Norway with us together! Besides the beautiful fjords, there are many lakes and typical Norwegian farmland to be found. What is typical about this farmland is the vast amount of sheep, lovely old barns and its rocky and mountainous farmland. Also there are beaches with white sand to be found around Stavanger. Culture Stavanger is very multicultural. Also, the city is very old, and new at the same time! In the city you will find many old buildings, mosques and museums. Shopping The town is characterized as colourful and koselig (Norwegian for cosy). We will guide you to the nicest shops and boutiques. The city of Stavanger is surrounded by fjords and sea, which provides the area with fresh salmon, shrimps, lobster and mussels, just to name a few! We will take you around town and show you the areas where you will be able to do the best shopping and which restaurants offer the best high quality meals. Stavanger also has a very interesting old town, which lies hidden in the city centre. This old town is a settlement of small characteristic wooden fisherman houses, now a UNESCO world heritage site where you will find many flowers and hidden gardens. During our city walk on the first day your Guide will tell you many stories about the town and its interesting history. Officially dating back from 1125, Stavanger was a very religious town and became known from its teetotalism movement; whose members we pledged to total abstinence from the use of alcoholic drinks of all kinds. During our walk we will pass different religious sites, mosques, typical Norwegian houses and the fire tower of Stavanger form where you will have an overview over the entire city. During this day we will further introduce you to the city during a short morning walk. We will visit the harbour of Stavanger, the best fish market and the Old Town of Stavanger. We end our day with a visit to the Norwegian Petroleum Museum where we will give you interesting insights into the Oil & Gas industry of Norway! Your guide will tell you all about this Fjord. We will pass salmon and mussel farms, and give you very interesting information about how the fjords came into existence! As you are on board, you will taste traditional delicacies. Region Stavanger & Viking history During this trip we will learn a lot about the history of Stavanger, Norwegian culture and the Vikings, whom have played a key role in the development of the area of Stavanger.
