It especially serves the educational, research and artistic needs of the multidisciplinary Aalto University. History The Library opened in 1875 as the library of the Design Forum Finland and its Central School for Applied Arts. The school, renamed School of Arts and Crafts, was transferred to the State along with the library in The Library was part of the University of Art and Design Helsinki in It merged into the Aalto University Library in International activities ARLIS/Norden, IFLA /Art Libraries Section and Audiovisual & Multimedia Section, IGeLU Focus areas and special tasks The Library serves the educational and research needs of the Aalto University in the fields of art and design, art education and audiovisual communication and supports the University s artistic activities. Examples of special collections In addition to other materials, patrons can borrow videos and slides related to the disciplines represented at the University. The Library also houses the collections of the Finnish Comics Society.

It is the oldest and largest library specializing in technology in Finland. The Library supports and promotes research, education and studies in the field of science and technology at the Aalto University. History The history of the Library dates back to 1849, when the Technical School of Helsinki was established. From 1908 onwards the Library has been part of a higher education institution, namely the Technological University of Finland which was later renamed Helsinki University of Technology. It merged into the Aalto University Library in the International activities Aslib, EBLIDA, EuroCRIS, IFLA, IATUL, SPARC Europe Focus areas and special tasks The Library serves nationwide information needs related to science and technology. It is responsible for practical matters regarding the Energy Technology Data Exchange (ETDE) agreement formed under the International Energy Agency (IEA), and for submitting bibliographic records and abstracts of energy-related literature published in Finland into the ETDEWEB World Energy Base.

5 Examples of special collections The Library holds extensive collections of materials on chemistry, physics and energy research and is continuously expanding its collection of Finnish literature on technology. Profile The Töölö Library is the largest library in Finland that specializes in economics. It is open to all visitors. History The Library was founded as the Library of Helsinki School of Economics in It has grown to become Finland s leading library of economics. The Library maintains the economic Helecon databases and is also known as Helecon Information Center. It merged into the Aalto University Library in the International activities EBSLG, IFLA, CRIS Focus areas and special tasks Finland s leading library specializing in economics.
