1 My introduction letter as candidate for IODA s Vice President I would like to announce my intention to be elected as vice president of IODA. For 20 years I have been married to Maria Paz Meyer. We have three sons and a daughter between the ages of 12 and 18. I am an organizational psychologist with a master's degree in organizational behavior and development. My entire professional career has been linked to organizational development in multinational and Chilean companies in both external consulting and executive positions. I am a sportsman who trains and participates actively in hang-gliding. I have always defined myself as an agent of change. I am a person who seeks to assist in the development of people and organizations and recently in the development of society as well. For almost two years now I have been developing my own company called Positive Change. My company specializes in the strategic consulting and training of change agents to help businesses grow sustainably by enhancing their strengths. I first encountered IODA over 10 years ago. What caught my eye was the richness of IODA's members and their organization which is a result of cultural diversity and multiple talents.i was part of the OD Network and I always felt that more cultural diversity was needed as it was predominantly a North American organization. I am interested in integrating the leadership of IODA by contributing from my personal perspective. I want to work for the future development of this important organization and to help transform it so that it can have a more vital and influential role in the organizations and societies in which its members operate. I was trained as a consultant when I was quite young and I have worked all my life in the field of organizational development. I would consider it a great opportunity to occupy a leading position in such an important organization as IODA because of its global influence and its ability to create a better world for us and future generations to live in.
2 I believe OD values are more important than ever to the success of sustainable development of companies, organizations and societies of the world. I hope I can contribute with a grain of sand to the collective effort that this organization has been making for so many years. I would like to help IODA become stronger and more vital and accompany its development in the upcoming years. Knowing him over many years in multiple roles, seeing his OD work, experiencing him in presentations with clients, and participating with him in OD professional conferences/meetings has been a learning experience for us both. The values and practices of the OD profession have long been his way of life. Over the years he has been part of IODA, he has exhibited a strong commitment to our values and mission. In addition, his family and children have always been key in how he focuses his energy. Juan Carlos love of gliding is a metaphor for the way he lives and works. 4 RECOMMENDATION LETTER - VERONICA FRICK, CHILE I have known Juan Carlos Obrador since 1991, when we were colleagues at Juana Anguita s Consulting Firm and we studied together in the Diploma in Organizational Consulting. A few years later, in 1998 we were colleagues at Compañía Sudamericana de Vapores (CSAV), a large Shipping Company that gives cargo service between Chile and North America, South America, Europe, Asia. In both firms I had the chance to work with Juan Carlos in many ways, collaborating with organizational process, consulting projects, training and development processes. After I left that Company, I have seen Juan Carlos in many Professional events, meetings, Conventions. Juan Carlos is an Organizational Psychologist who has specialized in Organization Development and worked in huge projects on organizational change and development in big international companies. He has directed relevant projects on quality and performance improvement, with significant results in efficiency through the methodology of Six Sigma. He has also worked as a Consultant with outstanding outcomes that have been recognized by the top managers of international organizations. He is an example of a top leader because of his orientation to task and people at the same time, with a unique personality because of his personal charisma, friendliness, creativeness and support to other people. I recommend Juan Carlos nomination as VP of IODA, for his personal characteristics as a leader, his wide knowledge and experience in Organization Development interventions and his great energy to conduct change process and his remarkable leadership abilities that will allow him to help IODA in the fulfillment of his vision, mission and values. 5 RECOMMENDATION LETTER - DIANA WHITNEY, USA I am honored to recommend Juan Carlos Obrador for the position of VP of IODA. He is dedicated to both the field of OD and IODA as a leading professional association. He is a unique blend of several strengths that I believe are essential for such a position. First and foremost he lives and works internationally. He has worked at Phelps Dodge Mining Chile-USA, CSAV, a Global Shipping company leader in South America. He was also the Director of Organizational Excellence at Komatsu Chile, a Japanese company. As the leading international OD association I believe IODA will flourish with his international awareness and cultural sensitivity. Second, he has worked successfully and hence understands the many positions that members of IODA hold in OD, HR, internal and external consultant. I have known Juan Carlos Obrador since At the time he served as the HR Director at Merck Sharp and Dohme. Since then Juan Carlos has been a senior executive for many years at high-level companies where he excelled as a change agent improving performance and the development of the organizations and people. I believe he can relate to a wide range of IODA members and will indeed be respected by them for his extensive experience and expertise. And third, Juan Carlos is an innovative entrepreneur who balances the best of what works from the past with leading edge ideas. As such he will bring a fresh perspective to the work of IODA and the field of OD. I had the opportunity to certify him as Practitioner of Appreciative Inquiry. Since then we ve met at various conferences and have developed a relationship of mutual respect, common perspectives and the aspiration to contribute to a better world and more humane organizations. I also had the opportunity to work with him when he was the Director of Organizational Excellence at Antofagasta Minerals, an important Chilean mining company that trade shares in London. He s been and entrepreneur for almost two years now. He is in charge of his own consulting company leading local and global customers towards the development of an organizational culture in which individuals, teams and companies are a whole and found its development multiplying their strengths and aiming to their highest potential.
6 Juan Carlos now represents the Corporation for Positive Change in Chile and Peru leading the development of the company on the principles of positive change and organizational development.
