1 Akdeniz University Faculty of Engineering Department of Environmental Engineering DESCRIPTION OF UNIVERSITY& DEPARTMENT Antalya is approximately 546 kilometers from Ankara 562 kilometers from Adana 466 kilometers from İzmir 727 kilometers from İstanbul Situated on coastal cliffs, Antalya is surrounded by mountains. Development and investment, which started in the 1970s, have transformed the city into an international resort. As of the 2009 census, Antalya had a population of 1,095,157. 1
2 The economy of Antalya depends on tourism, agriculture, and commerce, with some light industry. The area has a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and moderately warm and rainy winters. Around 300 days of the year are sunny; sea temperature range between 15 C and 28 C; air temperature can rise up to 40 C in July and August, with low-to-mid 30 C typical. Agricultural production includes citrus fruits, cotton, cut flowers, olives, olive oil and bananas. Antalya meets 65% of the fresh fruit and vegetable demand of Turkey. 6 tourism regions along 640 km long coastal line more than 800 luxury hotels and resorts in these tourism regions 26 WWTPs and about 10 sea outfall systems
3 Description of Akdeniz University Akdeniz University was founded in 1982 and established on 3,700 acres of land.
