3 Corporate Finance Advanced corporate finance course. The objective of this course is to develop a better understanding of the main financial and investment decisions that firms face. The course will focus on the following topics: capital structure and financing decisions; IPOs; mergers and acquisitions; private equity and LBOs. THIS IS THE LAST YEAR IN WHICH THE COURSE WILL BE OFFERED IN THIS FORMAT. DON T WAIT NEXT YEAR TO TAKE THIS COURSE! BIG CHANGES COMING NEXT YEAR!
4 Audience This is an ECOFIN course. To be precise, it is a module of the course Analisi di Bilancio e Corporate Finance. The Analisi di Bilancio module (Prof. Tami) is offered in the Fall semester. This module is also in the following program: ECOECO Other modules in the Spring semester. The course assumes a good preliminary knowledge of introductory finance at the Brealey - Myers level. It is NOT REQUIRED to have taken Finanza Aziendale, but it is assumed that you know the topics covered in Finanza Aziendale. If this is your first Finance course, please check the program of Finanza Aziendale and bring yourself up to speed with the rest of the class. Given time constraints, we cannot review introductory material in this course.

9 Financial Press Students are encouraged to read financial press articles. We will occasionally discuss relevant current events. Recommended sources are: Wall Street Journal - the best financial newspaper (a European edition is available). The Economist - the best all around source of info for Econ/Finance students. Financial Times the best European financial newspaper Il Sole-24 Ore Italian financial newspaper
10 Exam Your final grade will be based a 2-hour written exam. The exam is a closed books exam. There will be a written test on for students who attend classes at the end of the course. To make up for that class, an extra class will probably be added in the second half of March. IF THE EXAM IS UNREADABLE, IT WILL NOT BE GRADED.
11 Dissertations If you want to write a thesis in corporate finance, you can send me an with these data: Name, family name, & University ID number Exams taken in the quantitative area (statistics, econometrics, mathematical finance, etc). Exams taken in the finance area. Knowledge of statistical and econometric softwares (Stata, eviews, SAS) Foreign languages You write the thesis in Italian, but most of the articles to read will be in English. Empirical topics are favored.
