1 Overview of food security projects funded by EKN Addis Ababa in 2016 Each project is described under one of the three pillars in the Multi-Annuals Strategic Plan to which it contributes most. Targets only refer quantified targets and do not cover all project results. Strategic pillar 1: Reduce household vulnerability (1) Productive Safety Net Programme (PSNP), phase 4 Strengthen resilience to shocks, enhance livelihoods and improve food security and nutrition for rural households vulnerable to food insecurity. all members of selected vulnerable households (clients), starting with 8 million people at the beginning of phase 4, increasing to 12 million people by the end of phase 4 NL contribution to multi-donor trust fund managed by World Bank; implementation by Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources; PSNP clients selected through district administrations four indicators: (1) % of children aged 6-23 months who receive minimum acceptable diets; (2) Household dietary diversity; (3). Average value of asset holding; 4. Number of different income sources. Targets will be fixed after competion of PSNP 4 baseline. duration phase 4: : NL contribution for , 24 million euros for phase 4. Budget 2016: 1 million euros (2) Resilience Building in Ethiopia (RESET) Strengthen resilience of the most vulnerable communities to man-made and natural disaster crises through measures that will increase livelihood and employment opportunities and better access to services rural households with marginal livelihoods NL contribution to EU trust fund for Migration; Implementation by consortia of international NGOs to be determined (new project) NL contribution: Jan Dec million euros Budget 2016: 3 million euros (3) Improving food security and strengthening community cohesion in Gambella Region. improve food security of returning internally displaced persons (IDPs) and host community members in two districts in Gambella Region while strengthening the cohesion in and between communities internally displaced persons that have returned and local communities, with specific attention for youth, women and children project implemented by ZOA in collaboration with local government institutes

2 55,000 people directly reached by the response, for which three targets have been set: (1) by the end of the project, average copr poroductin of beneficiary households in target communities has increased by 10% of the baseline; (2) at least 50% of targeted households report that their income increased by the end of the project; (3) 60% more people of the conflicting ethnic groups believe that violent conflict has decreased in the project area by the end of the project. Combination of regional planning and bottom-up local planning involving smallholders. 3 provide evidence-based support for the upscaling strategy of the Government of Ethiopia in general and the Agricultural Growth Programme (AGP( in specific; support the government with respect to soil mapping and tailor made fertilizer recommendations. Direct involvement of smallholders in trials on good practices; upscaling of these practices, once validated, by Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources through the Agricultural Growth Programme and other channels project implemented by Wageningen University and Research Centre (WUR). Project partners are Ethiopian universities, Ethiopian agricultural research institutes and the Extension department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources The capacity of the Ethiopian research and extension system will be such that: (1) 10,000 farmers participate in joint experimentation; (2) 25,000 farmers are indirectly affected by the project through e.g. demonstration days; (3) 150,000 farmers benefit from improved technologies; (4) 1500 staff of research and extension system are trained (indirect); (5) 85 districts development plans are implemented, and (6) 80 validated best-fit technologies are delivered to the system 1 st phase: Nov 2012 Dec 2015: 2 nd phase Jan 2016 Dec 2019 will be under umbrella project BENEFIT (see below) 10,56 euros ( ); : see BENEFIT Budget 2016: 0,63 million euros (remaining part of budget): in 2016 CASCAPE will become part of BENEFIT (7) Integrated Seed Sector Development (ISSD) Support local seed business development; support to private small and medium-scale seed producers and seed companies; promote partnerships and innovation; enable and evolve seed policies; conduct research and studies; capacity development. Contribution to the Agricultural Growth Programme (AGP) through seed supply to smallholders. Technical support to the Agricultural Transformation Agency in formulation of national seed sector policy seed producing smallholders organized, seed producing enterprises, and smallholders served with improved seeds project implemented by Wageningen University and Research Centre (WUR); collaboration with regional agricultural bureaus and the Agricultural Transformation Agency (ATA) (1) strengthen farmer and community based seed systems in 30 districts, with 720 farmer groups, involving 36,000 farmers; (2) strengthen 150 local seed businesses, reaching 12,000 participating farmers; (3) strengthen 25 private seed companies, 5 public seed enterprises as well as the Ethiopian Seed Association; (6) total number of farmers indirectly reached with quality seed: 750,000 Budget st phase: ; 2 nd phase will be under umbrella project BENEFIT (see below) : 10,2 million euros; : see BENEFIT 0,51 million euro (remaining part of budget) (8) Small Scale and Micro Irrigation Support Project (SMIS)

4 Support agricultural development through institutional development and capacity building in small-scale and micro-irrigation. Support irrigation component in the Agricultural Growth Programme (AGP) on small scale irrigation mainly smallholders participating in the Agricultural Growth Programme (AGP). Farmers will be organized in water user groups Project implemented by AgriTeam Canada Consultancies Ltd.; collaboration with Agricultural Growth Programme (AGP), the Irrigation department of Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, regional agricultural bureaus, local government institutes and four Agricultural Technical and Vocational Educational & Training institutes (A-TVETs), establishing one national Centre of Excellence on small scale irrigation, also supporting the Ethiopian Conformity Assessment Enterprise on quality control of irrigation equipment. to be determined after completion of baseline survey on small scale irrigation, household irrigation, and A-TVET capacity building.
