With admissions for most of the B-schools open now for academic year , it is high time for you to know the best B-schools in India. With about 4,000 B-schools offering management education, the key concern is whether every B-School is worth its value for taking admission? Careers360 B-School Ranking 2014 brings you a list of top 100 B-schools that include 30 top Public B-school and 70 top Private B-schools. The well known B-schools which did not participate in the ranking process have also been mentioned under the Missing Schools category so that you do not miss out any of the good B-Schools. 5 WHAT DO THE RANKINGS TELL? Top 100 public and private B-schools in India A nation-wide survey was conducted to find 100 top B-schools in India. The outcome is a list of top 30 public MBA institutes and top 70 private MBA institutes. On the basis of ranking survey data, Careers 360 has also created list of top rated B-schools in different states and union territory. Public B-schools are those institutes which are run by central or state governments. Private B-schools are owned, run and funded by private trusts. They are not aided by the government unlike public B- schools. The Missing Schools refer to those B-schools which did not participate in the ranking process but are institutes worth mentioning. At least 30 missing schools have also been identified and presented here. The public and private schools have been rated separately, primarily from the point of view that these institutions are endowed differently and hence are amenable to comparison only among them. But the parameters have been kept the same and scoring based on the same algorithm. This year, the number of parameters has been reduced and some of them have been integrated with larger themes so that the rank represents what a student seeks. Top rated B-schools in India: Further, based on the Careers360 survey data for B-school Ranking 2014, as many as seven clusters have been formed to determine ratings for those schools which have not participated in the survey or have scored less than the minimum eligibility to be present in the Top 100 schools. We have segregated over 250 top rated B-schools and placed them, on the basis of their location, under different zones namely East & North-East, West, North & Delhi-NCR, South and Central. Each zone comprises top rated B-schools grouped under different states. METHODOLOGY From a large database of 4000 odd institutions that are listed in the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE), and Careers360 list of 700 universities that have management departments, we culled out a list of 570 B-Schools that had ample information on critical parameters such as name of the management programme, duration, number of students and faculty members, infrastructure details, accreditation and awards, placement statistics and admission test score cut-offs. Such details were available using publicly available information such as Mandatory Disclosure, Annual Reports, National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NC) website, National Board of Accreditation website, AICTE website and Department of Technical Education or equivalent thereof. Questionnaires were mailed to all the shortlisted schools and all those who wished to participate were invited to submit their responses in the form of a questionnaire provided two of their batches had graduated by August The B-Schools were also asked to submit hard copies for want of supporting documents and authenticity since many respondents were found to be prone to overstatement of their virtues. For Public institutions who did not participate, we used the information made available after filing for the same through RTI Act and if they were found to be adequate, we included them in the ranking process. 5

6 Post scrutiny of available data, we used our INPUT-PROCESS-OUTPUT methodology to arrive at six broad parameters. This includes two crucial parameters: research output and alumni. The top 100 B- Schools in the country have been proportionately been divided in Public (30) and Private (70) category. The important thing to note this year is that we have moved further in evaluating B-Schools on such factors that are objective and fairly quantifiable so that any good management institute can safely determine where its place is. 11 Continuing the tradition we started last year, the public and private schools have been rated separately, primarily from the point of view that these institutions are endowed differently and hence, are amenable to comparison only among themselves. But the parameters have been kept the same and scoring based on the same algorithm. The scoring is based on a Max: Min Schema for some of the parameters. The idea behind the usage of such a schema is to ensure that natural clusters of schools are formed, which can then be identified as a Tier. We have identified five such Tiers this year and schools are grouped accordingly. We have also ensured that a list of good missing schools is presented alongside each tier so that the choice set of each student is completely represented in the ranking process. The entire research project on Ranking was headed by Dr. Nimesh Chandra. Anupam Sinha and his team ably performed the task of compiling the massive database of B-schools and preparation of alumni database. Questionnaire processing was undertaken by Aeshwarya Tiwari, Alok Mishra, Prabir Mohanty and Rohit Kumar Bhaisora. 11
